The weekly'30 Card Game continues in the Community Centre this Friday, May 27, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Proceeds going to Parish Funds. On Friday, May 27, will be: Bridget O'Gorman, Ann Stafford, Kay Whelan and Agnes Whelan. On Friday, June 1, will be: Rita Furlong, Catherine English and Bernie Power. On Friday, June 8, will be: Mary Jackman, Eleanor Power and Ann Jackman.

Card winners on Friday, May 13, were: Matt O'Neill, John Hanley, Matty Sullivan, Pat Murphy, Bridie Dillon, Chris Byrne, Sean Cullen, John Nolan, John Furlong and Jim Wickham.

Athletic Club News

Day two of the Leinster Secondary Schools T and F was held on Saturday, May 12. Those competing for the club on behalf of their school was Sonia Mooney, Triona Mooney, Marguerite Furlong, Joe Mooney, Zara Power and Ryan Carthy Walsh. They all had great performances with wins for Joe Mooney in the Walk, Ryan Carthy Walsh in the High Jump and Marguerite Furlong in the Shot Putt. Marguerite Furlong also finished second in the Discus, Triona Mooney finished fourth in the Walk, Zara Power sixth in the Shot Putt and sixth in the Hammer and Sonia Mooney seventh in the Javelin.

Well done to all our Primary school athletes who competed at the Bree School Sports last Wednesday. Those that competed were; Aine Crean, Roisin Nic Gabhainn, Laura O'Gorman, Kate Whelan, Jack O'Shea, Ross English, Watt Crean, Stephen Power, Aoife McCabe, Megan Martin, Grainne English, Roisin Colfer and Leah Sinnott. Well done to Aoibhinn Crean (competing for Bree N.S.) who finished in third place in the under-14 Girls High Jump at the Bree Sports.

Training on Monday evening 8 p.m. at Communtiy Centre for distance running; Wednesday Nicky training 7.30 for under-12 and up meet at the Hall for indoor and outdoor training; Thursday under-8 to under-11 at Community Centre 6.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m., under-11 shot putt till 7.30 p.m., under-12 and up 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. All athletes training should now be registered, new members welcome.

Centre Membership

As the Community Centre are responsible for the Insurance and Maintenance of the Walking Track, we would please ask the people using the walking track to pay their membership.

Even if you are a member of another club this does not mean you have free membership of the Community Centre, if you are a player then you may use the walking track. If everyone using the walking track paid their membership it would be a big help to the Committee who work hard to keep the centre open.

Family membership is €30, Adult is €20, Student/Unemployed €15. Please remember membership works out at around 50c per week.

Tractor and Vintage Run

The Galbally Tractor and Vintage Run takes place on Sunday, May 29, at 1 p.m. Registration from midday to 1 p.m. Cost per tractor is €20 (reductions for multiple members of the same family taking part) Food, refreshments and spot prize raffle after run. Route: Galbally, Ballymorris, Clonmore, Sparrowsland, Bree Lane, Knockduff Lane, Macmine, Ballyhogue, Killurin, Carrigmannon, Glynn, Bulgan, Lambstown, Ballinclay, Barmoney.

Historical Society

Garden Show in Adamstown Community Centre on Sunday, June 12, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Coollaught Garden Centre are presenting the show. A talk will be given by Larry the owner of the garden centre. The garden centre stocks perennial trees, shrubs, bulbs, plants etc etc. admission is €5. Raffle, Prizes €100, €50, €25. Your support would be much appreciated.

ICA News

The May meeting of Adamstown ICA was held in the Community Centre on Wednesday May 11 when 14 members attended. Membership is now overdue, and any member not paid should do so now. The annual walk will be held on October 30 (Sunday). Preparation for the special occasions table are in progress which takes place this year in Bree on Wednesday, June 8.

Our annual outing this year is to Dublin Historical sights of 1916 on Wednesday, July 13. Anyone interested contact any ICA member ASAP because it will have to be booked.

The draw was won by Dymphna. The oldest coin was won by Sheelagh. The meeting concluded with tea served by Ann and Liz. Next meeting on Wednesday, June 15.

Sr Fabian Barden RIP

We extend our sympathy also to the Barden family on the death of their aunt Sr Fabian Barden formerly Haytown, Fethard on Sea. Her funeral Mass took place Monday, May 9, in St Aidan's Church, Poulfour, with burial afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Poulfour. May she rest in peace.

Prayerful Thanks

The Barron family wish to express their thanks to the people of Adamstown for their prayers and good wishes. Roberts's conditions is improving slowly.


Galbally Tractor Run

The annual Tractor Run in aid of Galbally Parish Funds will take place on this Sunday, May 29. Registration from midday to 1 p.m. at Galbally Community Centre. €20 per tractor with refreshments in the Community Centre afterwards. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Bree Youth Club AGM

The AGM of Bree Youth Club will take place in Bree Community Centre on Tuesday, May 31, at 8 p.m. All parents of members are welcome to attend and are invited to become involved in the continued success of the club. Nominations for positions on the committee for the coming year should be forwarded to the club secretary or chairman by this Friday, May 27.

Clothing Collection

Bri Beag will hold a Clothing, Household, Textiles Collection and Mobile Phone recycling collection on Wednesday, June 8, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Thursday, June 9, from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. - drop off point Bree Community Centre. All funds raised from the collection are in aid of Bri Beag. Items accepted are clothing, soft toys, shoes, handbags, belts, laptops, mobile phones, curtains, towels etc. Strictly no dirty or wet clothing, no duvets, pillows, carpets or mats and no books please.

Community Games

Congratulations to the 12 Bree Davidstown competitors who qualified for the National Finals of Community Games in August at the Talent Co Final in Bree on Friday night last.

Those who will travel to Athlone are the Cloughbawn under-12 Dance Group of Niamh Fenlon, Makayla Flynn, Mia Murphy, Anita O'Leary and Chloe O'Neill representing Murphy School of Dancing, Bree under-16 Dance Group of Sarah Bolger, Aine Byrne, Sarah Doyle, Erin Fortune, Amy Long and Meabh Rochford representing Wexford Academy School of Dancing and Erin Kehoe of Galbally performing in the Recitation section with Pádraig Pearse's poem 'The Mother'.

Silver medal winners in Bree were the Galbally Ballad Group of Amy Doyle, Faith Doyle, Tara Kehoe, Caitlin Laffan, Hazel Murphy and Megan Regan and also taking part was Alicia Lambert, Galbally in the Solo Singing. Well done to all involved.

Well done also to all who competed in the Community Games Sports on Thursday night last. All qualifiers take part in the Co Final in Enniscorthy Hub on Sunday, June 12. Details will be issued to each individual involved shortly.

Bree AC

Well done to the Bree AC athletes competing in the Leinster Relay Championships on Saturday last in Greystones and in the Leinster Combined Events in Enniscorthy the following day.

Four relay teams represented the club in Greystones. They were the gold medal winners in the under-11 girls and in the Boys under-12 and silver medal winners in the U9. The under-14 Girls ran well but did not make the final. Members of the under-11 team were Abbie Doyle, Gracie Kehoe, Joanna Chapman and Katie Doyle. Members of the under-12 Boys team were Robbie Chapman, Sean Rowley, Shane Doran and Jay Hogan with Oisin Rochford and Ryan Whelan as subs.

Silver medals went to Ciara Laffan, Katie Nolan, Sophie Chapman and Chloe Casey. Others taking part were Donna Delahunty, Lucy Kehoe, Leah Nolan and Katie Whelan.

Lucy and Katie were also in action on Sunday in the Leinster Combined Event in Enniscorthy. Both girls performed well with Katie finishing in fourth place in her event.

Next outing for the club will be the Co B Championships in the Enniscorthy Hub on Friday, June 3, for the non medal winners at the A Championships.

The club has divided travel plans for the June Bank Holiday when some members will travel to the Leinster Team Events in Tullamore and other members will have their annual trip to Ballon/Rathoe Open Sports.

Bree Tidy Towns

Plans are currently advancing for the submission of the application for judging in the 2016 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition. This is the 20th year of entry for Bree Tidy Towns. We appreciate the continued support of residents and community groups alike in assisting with the many improvements and maintenance of the Village and approach roads.

We are also asking if anyone has any partially used tins of paint which you no longer need perhaps you would consider donating them to the Tidy Towns group to assist us with freshening up features in the Village. For further information please contact any Tidy Towns member or Elaine in the Community Centre. All support is greatly appreciated.


Thank You

A Huge Thank You to the Parishioners from Kilcotty/Ballinastraw area who took part in a Community Clean Up on Sunday morning a trailer load of illegally dumped waste was collected over a 2.6k stretch. Thank You to Kathleen Doran who gathered the groups and also provided the refreshments afterwards.

Thank you to all who helped to clear all the litter from Ballinastraw, Ballycourcey, Killcottymore last Sunday morning. A special thank you to the young girls and boys and students who did a great job and gave their time so willingly.


Tickets will be on sale shortly to help fund repairs to the gable end of the church. Tickets are €10 with first prize of €500, second prize €300, third prize €200. Volunteers will be calling to all the houses in the Community over the next few weeks. We need your support.

school social

The Summer Social for the Holy Family school was held recently in the Big Tree Lounge on Friday last. A very big thank you to all the parents and members of the community who came along on the night, a great night of fun and craic was had by all and the Draw was done for the super Fund raising raffle on the night.

A massive thank you to Tony and all the staff in the Big Tree for their kind hospitality and for providing the entertainment on the night the school and the staff and parents really appreciated it.
