'Who's Got Talent'

Heat 1 of 'Who's Got Talent' takes place on this Saturday night, December 10, at 8 p.m. Heat 2 is on January 6, and Heat 3 is January 7. The Grand Final is on Saturday, January 21. Bree Youth Club News

The Christmas Variety Show will take place on Friday, December 15, in Bree Community Centre. Tickets are available at the door. Adults €7, Children under-10 €2, Children over 10 €4. All support will be greatly appreciated.

Bree AC athletes competed well in the Juvenile Winter League of Friday last. The Bree AC annual awards presentations took place on Thursday last. Award winners are Aoife Cloke Rochford (Athlete of the Year), Seán Rowley (John Godkin under-13 Award), Gracie Kehoe (Bree ICA Award), Shane Doran (Peter Byrne Award), Elaine McCabe (Pat O'Leary Award), Sophie McCabe (Tony Greene Award), Katie Whelan (Paul Kehoe Award) and Abbie Doyle (Special Merit Award).

Registration for Bree AC for 2017 will take place at training on this Thursday December 8 and again on Thursday the 15th from 7.15 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. during indoor training times. Indoor training finishes on Thursday, 15th for the Christmas season and resumes again on January 12.

Bree Macra News

Congratulations to the team of Sarah Doyle, Aine Doyle and William Spratt Murphy who were runners-up in the national final of the Public Speaking last weekend in Tullamore. Their topic was 'Children's Toys should be gender neutral'. As well as receiving the runners-up trophies, Sarah received a silver salver as best public speaker of the night.

St Vincent De Paul

The collection in aid of St Vincent De Paul took place at all Churches through out the diocese last weekend. All support for this worthy cause was greatly appreciated.

Glenbrien

Cadbury truck visit

The Cadbury mega-truck as seen in the Christmas TV adverts has been scheduled to pay a visit to Glenbrien during Christmas week. A photo op can be availed of with the Cadbury mega - truck in the car park, selfies etc. 'OMG' declared an excited local mechanic upon hearing the breaking news and who gave a pledge to acquire a free range turkey for the driver as a Christmas present.

Our next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, December 11. Music is by Chris Dallet. This is Chris's first visit to Oylegate as he makes the long journey to us from Northern Ireland. He a very popular figure on the dancing circuit so a great crowd is expected. Dancing is from 9.30 p.m. so come along early. Admission is €8, with the usual tasty refreshments served.

Penance Service

In preparation for the Feast of the Nativity, a Penance Service will be held in St Patrick's Church on Sunday, December 18, at 7.30 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated in Oulart at 9 p.m.

Scór na nÓg

Congratulations to Declan Sinnott, Ballineroad who represented Oulart-The Ballagh in the Recitation Section of Scór na nÓg Final in Clonroche Community Centre on November 19 and came away as the winner (for the second year in - a row) having given a fine rendition of 'The Hurler's Dream'. Declan will now represent Co. Wexford in the Leinster semi-finals in Allenwood, Co. Kildare on December 4.

Christmas Raffle

The annual Oulart Church Fund Christmas Raffle tickets have been distributed to most houses in the parish and if you have not yet received them please contact Joan Doyle (087 7935897). The usual seasonal prizes are on offer thanks to the generous people who donated them. Anyone who would like extra books of tickets should contact the Parochial House or Draw Co-ordinator, Joan Doyle. As this is the only fund-raiser for the church this year your support would be greatly appreciated.

Get Well Wishes

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health are extended to all the sick of the parish, at home or in hospital. In the interests of privacy and security, the names of people in hospital will not be published unless requested by themselves or their families. Senior Citizens Party

Oulart Senior Citizens Committee will host the annual Senior Citizens Party on Sunday, January 15, at 2 p.m. People over 65 years are all welcome to attend. Invitations will be sent out but, in case someone is inadvertently omitted, the committee would ask that it be brought to their attention so that it can be rectified. If you know someone eligible to attend who has recently moved into the area please notify the organisers. All queries to Eddie O'Grady or Seán Byrne. The organisers wish to thank everyone who contributed to the recent Church Gate Collection.

Mass Readers

On December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Johnny Masterson and Joan Doyle are scheduled to read. Eileen Kehoe-Flynn and Ann Sinnott will read on December 11.

Scoil Mochua on Radio

Five pupils from Scoil Mochua were interviewed by Alan Corcoran, on November 23, after which they performed live on South East radio. The five 'Radio Stars' were Molly Gallagher, Shona Proctor-Laird, Sarah Walsh, Faith Masterson and Niamh Larkin-Cooney. They were accompanied by the director of Scoil Mochua's Music Group, Mr Hamish Stuart along with Mrs Carmel Codd, Tomasz Osinski, Jennifer Parkin and Marianne Cooney.

They played 'Five-in-a-row' which was composed by Mr Stuart to commemorate the senior hurlers' historic and unique 5-in-a-row of Co. championship hurling victories, 2009-2013. Then Shona and Faith sang 'The Ballad of Oulart Hill' composed by Mr Kevin Whitty.

School News

A concert featuring all classes performing the songs and tunes that the pupils of Scoil Mochua recorded on CD was held in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday, November 30. Great credit is due to all connected with the CD, especially parent, Mr Tomasz Osinski, the recording engineer who produced the CD and to Mr Hamish Stuart who facilitated the initiative. Congratulations to Eve Corrigan, Emmy Kenneally and Kevin Redmond whose artwork is featured on the cover of the CD. CDs for sale the parents' association of Scoil Mochua are delighted to announce that the CD can be purchased from Scoil Mochua and from Oulart Post Office and Spar Supermarket at a cost of €10 each, with a sliding scale if more than one is bought.

Credit Union Art - Congratulations to Scoil Mochua's pupil, Tatianna Sokolic who won first prize in the Enniscorthy Credit Union Art Competition on the theme 'Dreams are made of...'.

Other News - The Hallowe'en Hike raised €114 which will be used towards ICT resources and equipment. The recent Shoe Box Appeal to send Christmas presents to less-fortunate children was a great success, as 52 filled boxes were delivered from Scoil Mochua to the collection point in Wexford. Well done to the parents and children who responded to that 'Operation Christmas Child' Appeal. Pupils from third and fourth classes in Scoil Mochua will participate in a soccer blitz - Futsal Soccer - in Gorey on Friday, December 9.

'Split the-Pot'

Everyone is encouraged to do 'Split-the Pot' to support Scoil Mochua. Entry envelopes are available in all local businesses. To be in with a chance to win just put €2 in the special envelope, seal it and write your name and contact details on the front. There is a winner every week. Congratulations to Catherine Murphy who won €196 in the most recent draw.

Oulart Tidy Towns

Oulart Tidy Towns Committee would like to extend a big thank you to all involved in their Old Graveyard project. Thanks to winning third prize in the Wexford County Council's 'Access for All Gardens and Parks' competition the committee have now made the Legion of Mary Hall and the Old Graveyard accessible for wheelchair users, restored four graves, landscaped the grounds and erected a pedestal displaying a brief history of St Mochua's Church, The Legion of Mary Hall and the Old Graveyard. This completed phase of the project also won third prize at the recent Keep Wexford Beautiful awards in the category for 'Best Community Project to Improve Accessibility in Gardens and Parks'.

The coffee morning in Mernagh's last week in aid of SERT and the Hope Centre raised €550. Thanks to all who supported these worthy causes.

GAA club news

Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA Club will hold a joint AGM for adult and underage sections on Sunday, December 11, at 4 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. We look forward to seeing you there.

Hurlers 100th Anniversary Celebrations: Thanks to the great crowd who turned up on Friday night to celebrate the 1915/16 Hurlers. The organising committee would like to thank all the sponsors; to those who gave photos; provided refreshments and confectionary; to those who worked before/on the night and to the centre for providing the venue. A special thank you must go to Briggette Heffernan for the lovely calligraphy and the personalized booklets with the photos.

Lotto: There was no winner of the lotto jackpot held on November 9. The numbers drawn were 13, 20, 22 and 26 and bonus number 23. Reprint of book

In 2008 our book 'Oylegate-Glenbrien, A Look Back in Time' was published and it sold out in three weeks. Since then, many people have asked about getting a copy.

The Oylegate-Glenbrien Journal Committee is now considering ordering a reprint, possibly in soft cover.

At present we would like to gauge the level of interest in purchasing the book. If you would like to buy a copy please contact email oylegateparishnews@yahoo.com or call or Text: Tom Miller at 086 8677334 giving your contact details. The Journal Committee will then get back to you in due course.

The book, in soft back, will cost approx. €20 per copy, and a non-refundable deposit of €10 would be needed to place an order, if we go ahead with the venture. The closing date for ordering your copy will be January 15, 2017.
