GAA lotto

The St Fintan's GAA lotto now stands at €9,000 and tickets can be purchased from local shops and the club grounds on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match-three prize of €300 up for grabs each week. Last week's numbers were 12, 14, 25 and 29. Many thanks for your continued support.

Hi energy Dancefit Classes are ongoing in Ballycogley on Monday and Wednesday at 7.30 p.m and Thursdays at 10 a.m. Plus 'Forever Active 55's +' Mondays at 11.30 a.m. A more gentle exercise class to music. Kilmore Forever Active 55+ on Tuesday at 2 p.m. All 'pay as you go'. Join in any time.

Country Music Festival

Five of Ireland's leading artists are confirmed to play the South East Country Music Festival 2017 at Killag, on July 30, 2017. A stellar lineup of artists includes Nathan Carter, Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley, Cliona Hagan and Lee Matthews. Tickets are already on sale locally priced at just €25. Deepest Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Eva Hendrick Cregg Ballycogley who sadly died during the past week and her remains were laid to rest in Piercestown cemetery following her funeral Mass in Mayglass. May she rest in peace.

ICA guild

At the recent federation meeting held in Ferrycarrig Hotel avote of sympathy was passed with Joan Furlong on the sad passing of her brother also during which Lish McDonnell was congratulated on the birth of her grandson in England. Hostesses for the next local Killinick guild meeting will be Margo Finn and Lish McDonnell during which Claire Carthy will give a demonstration on foot care. Those wishing to attend any of the afternoon tea parties to be held in Johnstown Castle on December 13, 14th and 15th are asked to contact 053 9184671. The guilds most recent coffee evening held during November raised €330.Many thanks to all that supported so generously.

Seniors Christmas Party

The annual Christmas Party was held in Danby Lodge on Sunday, December 4. organised by the Ballymore-Mayglass parish council. It was well attended and enjoyed by all. We wish to thank Danby Lodge for the lovely meal and attentive service, the Ballycogley Players for their hilarious entertainment and Tom Murphy and friends who provided the music. We also wish to thank Bargy Vintage Group for kindly sponsoring coal vouchers which were raffled. Thanks to all.

Don't forget to get your tickets for the parish council Christmas Draw which takes place in the Scout Hall next Sunday the 11th after 10 a.m. Mass. Lots of nice prizes to be won. Tickets available from parish council members and in Foley's shop Ballycogley.

Table quiz

A big thanks to everyone who supported our fundraising table quiz in the Half-Way house. We had 17 tables and raised over €700 between entries and the raffle. The winning team was Bernie Foley, Ella O'Brien, Tanya O'Brien and Breda Sinnott. Congratulations ladies on throwing down the gauntlet to the men and winning with a score of 98 out of a possible 100 points. Thanks to our quiz master Paddy McGuire for setting the questions.

St Fintan's AGM

St Fintan's AGM 2016 took place on Friday, December 2. Outgoing Chairman Robert Rowe opened the meeting by noting sympathies to all members who lost loved ones over the past year. He thanked the outgoing committee for their commitment throughout the year, he thanked the players and football and hurling management teams for their efforts over the 2016 season aswell as acknowledging all the hard work done by the club Fundraising committee. The annual Financial report was delivered while the meeting discussed Club Membership, Management teams for 2017 and Club Development plans. T

he club's longest standing officer Nicky Newport stepped down from his Club Treasurer position after more than 25 years with the club choosing to stay on to manage the weekly lotto. Both Robert Rowe and past Chairman Paddy McGuire wholeheartedly thanked Nicky for his tremendous contribution to the club over the years both acknowledging his immense dedication and diligence.

The newly elected committee for 2017 are Chairman Richard Kelly, Vice Chairman Mick Crowley, Secretary Sharon Pettit, Club Treasurer Liz Crowley, lotto Treasurer Nicky Newport, PRO Paddy McGuire, County Board Rep JW Rowe, Coaching Officer John Kelly, Club Welfare Officer Frank Staples Jnr, Children's Officer Linda Rankin, committee members: Shane Sinnott, John Wright Snr, Patrick McDonnell, Tom Kelly, Robert Rowe.

Navity Play/Carols

Ballymore/Mayglass Choir and Mayglass Schoolchildren will present a Nativity Play and Carol Service in Mayglass Church on Monday, December 12, at 7.30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations towards the day to day running costs of Mayglass School would be greatly appreciated. Refreshments served afterwards in Mayglass School.

St Fintan's Ladies

The St Fintan's ladies will hold its AGM on Wednesday, December 14, in the scout hall Ballymore at 8 p.m. We would like to thank everyone for their support during the 2016 season. The smooth running of the club is not an easy task and we would ask for anyone interested in helping in what ever way be it fundraising or just washing jerseys every job is equally as important. As a small club we struggle (that is quickly growing with huge numbers playing underage the last few years) to find all the help we need so please come along on the night all support and help is much appreciated.

All Blacks AFC

All Blacks AFC are delighted to announce Our Clubs Christmas Party/Player Presentation evening shall be held in the Danby Lodge December 18 coming from 3 p.m. This event is open to all age groups and shall be a celebration of our 2016 successes. Player awards will be presented on the day. Raffle on the night, minimum entry fee applies. We hope you all can make it.

The under-14 girls scored a 6-2 victory over Forth Celtic in this top of the table clash which was played from the first to the last minute in a competitive spirit. The away team took an early lead through Grace Roche but gradually the All Black girls came into the game and went in at half time 3-1 up through two Niamh Reese goals and a superb goal from Seren Ward. Emma Carr made it 4-1 before a great strike by Lauren Mcgloughlin gave the away team belief. However, two further Emma Carr goals including a fine individual goal and a penalty ensured the three points for All Blacks. Credit to all of the girls in an evenly yet well contested game. Scorers on the day for the home team were Emma Carr three, Niamh Reese two and Seren Ward. Well done to every member of the team/squad.

Mayglass NS

The parents' association of St Fintan's National School Mayglass are hosting a Christmas themed flower demonstration in the school on Tuesday, December 6, at 8 p.m. The talented Debbie Kelly of Lilly Bloom Florists will demonstrate the art of Christmas themed flower arrangements. Tickets are €10 including entry, door prize and refreshments. All arrangements made by Debbie will be raffled on the night. All proceeds raised going towards the development of the school. Tickets available from Lilly Bloom Florists, Mayglass School or on the night.

Tomhaggard centre

As a small token of appreciation to the community Tomhaggard social centre are hosting a Reception for all those who have volunteered, helped and supported the various fundraising events over the past few years. It takes place on Sunday, December 11, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. So why not come along and enjoy the wonderful facility that the centre has become since its refurbishment.

The Scout Investiture takes place on Wednesday, December 14, at 7 p.m. It's an important step in the scouting life of young people and adults. Meetings will then resume in the new year.

As usual the group will be organising a family trip to the Panto in Wexford in January. This year it's Beauty and the Beast, details will be circulated over coming weeks. Beavers enjoyed their Christmas trip to the Cinema on Saturday, December 3.


Christmas Concert

Piercestown Church Children's choir with Valda and guests will be presenting a Christmas Concert in St Martin's Church Piercestown on Monday, December 12, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets only €5 each and all proceeds are going to our local St Vincent de Paul.

ARA Club news

Piercestown-Murrintown ARA Club will hold their christmas party night on December 9 in Mary Barry's Kilmore - bus will collect you from your house. please ring Eileen at 086 3703120 to book your place. Music on night by Tommy Murphy. If you want to attend the party please come along to the St Martin's GAA centre on Tuesday next between 2.30 and 4.30 p.m. to book your place.

The club Coach Tour for 2017 is to the Slieve Russell Hotel Co Cavan on August 27 (Sun to Wed) three nights DBB with two day tours (details to be advised later). Text Alert AGM

Piercestown Community Text Alert Notice of AGM the first AGM of the Piercestown Community Text Alert Scheme will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 7.30 p.m. in St Martin's centre. The AGM will give the local people of Piercestown Parish a chance to obtain information and gain an insight into how the scheme has been operating to date. The AGM is open to anyone and the committee encourages as many people as possible to attend on the night.

Community Text Alert Schemes have been set up to empower local communities, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, to fight burglaries and other rural crime. The Piercestown Community Text Alert scheme has been operational since early 2016 and is open to new members at all times. Anyone wishing to join should make contact with the committee.

Scout Group news

Christmas Tickets for Scout Group are now on sale and the draw will take place on Tuesday, December 6, (provided all tickets are back) please ask all boys in group to bring back the tickets next tuesday to include everyone in draw. thank you to everyone who have supported this draw and our thrift fund during the year, payout will be first week in Dec for the Thrift Fund.

St Vincent de Paul

The St Patrick's Conference of St Vincent de Paul will hold their annual Christmas collection after mass in Kilrane and Rosslare Harbour on the weekend of December 10/11. There will also be a Vincent de Paul trolley for donations of non-perishable goods at Murphy's SuperValu, Theresa's Convenience Store and Quick-pick during the month of December. All donations collected are distributed within our local community.
