Around the Districts



The weekly '30' card game continues in the Community Centre this Friday, December 9, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Proceeds go to Parish Funds. Catering on Friday, December 9, will be Bernie Hickey, Evelyn O'Gorman and Ann O'Gorman; on Friday, December 16, will be Bridget O'Gorman, Ann Stafford, Kay Whelan and Agnes Whelan.

Card winners on Friday, November 25, were: Michael Kavanagh, Pat Ryan, Nick Doyle, Andy Reville, Seán Cullen, Johnny Nolan, Bess Wickham, Mary Jackman, Matt O'Neill, and John Hanley. Christmas Ham winners were Pat Byrne and Nick Doyle.

Adamstown lotto

The winning numbers in the Adamstown lotto draw on Friday, November 25, were 3, 11, 18 and 21. There was no jackpot winner, the following eight players matched three numbers and each got €25. Anne Bradley, Templeshelin, Catherine Moore, Misterin, Anne Marie Cooper, Breda Murphy, Lisa Walker c/o Cait, Noel Smyth, Ray Duffy c/o Dessie Doyle, John Bolger, Lacken. South East Radio Mass

Mass will be broadcast on South East Radio on Sunday, December 11, at 10 a.m. from St Abban's Church, Adamstown. Please note the change of mass time. I would appeal to all our parishioners to attend this mass and to spread the word. South East Radio is broadcast across Counties, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wicklow, Wexford, Laois and Carlow. It is a great privilege to share our Sunday Mass with such a large and diverse number of people.


The ICA would like to thank everyone who supported their supported their sponsored walk on Sunday, October 30, your support was very much appreciated. The total amount raised was €1,770. The ICA are celebrating their 15th Anniversary on Friday, December 9, in the Horse and Hound and if any previous members would like to join us on this happy occasion, please contact any ICA members on or before Wednesday, December 7.

Senior Citizens Party

The ICA will host the senior citizens Christmas party in the Horse and Hound on Sunday, December 11, at 6 p.m. If you are eligible to attend the party and have not received an invitation please contact any member of the ICA before Wednesday, December 7.

Meals Delivered

A meals delivery service is available for senior citizens in the community from Raheen FRC. This service takes place every Tuesday in the Raheen, Clonroche, Adamstown and Newbawn area. The menu consists of soup and main course or main course and dessert which vary each week. If you require any more information or wish to avail or this service please contact 051 428805.

Free Cookery Class

Free Christmas Cookery Classes will take place in Raheen Family Resources Centre on Monday and Monday, December 12 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Learn how to cook something different on a budget with a focus on enjoyable, healthy, seasonal food. Decoration Workshop

Learn how to make your own Christmas Wreaths and Christmas table decorations at free workshops in Raheen Family Resource Centre on Monday and Monday, December 12 and 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We will supply the rings and some greenery, but we would ask people to bring whatever other decorations they would like to use. Ard Aoibhinn Sale

The annual Ard Aoibhinn Christmas coffee morning and Cake Sale takes place at Clonard Community Centre this Friday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission €5 which includes tea or coffee and scone. Cake stall, raffle, Christmas cards and calendars on sale. Everyone welcome. Donations of cakes taken on the day.

Thank You

The organisers of the Christmas themed cake sale in aid of the Rainbow unit, Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported this event on Sunday, November 27. The total raised was €2,815. A massive thank you to everyone who baked, donated cakes, bought raffle tickets, bought cakes, promoted our cake sale or helped in any way to make our event such a success. All the money raised goes directly to the Rainbow Unit for children on the Autism Spectrum.

Clonard GAA

Congratulations to Kevin Byrne who won €294 in this week's split-the-pot draw, seller Mick Power. Thanks to everyone who supports the draw every week.

Ladies' Football

Clonard Volunteer Ladies were presented with their well deserved championship medals last Friday night in the Talbot Hotel, joining in on the celebrations were 90 family, friends and supporters from both Clonard and St John's Vounteers. This was a very special historic night as this team is the first ever and only Adult Senior ladies' team in Wexford Town.

The team was praised on the night by invited guests: Tom Whelan, Fixtures Chairman and Billy Stafford, Vice Chairman of County Board, Chairmen from both clubs Ray Cullinane and Mick Power, they all had a common trend in their speech's, all complimenting the team, management and the overall clubs Clonard and volunteers, they wished the team every success for 2017 and beyond.

Team manager Patrick O'Sullivan spoke about the teams commitment, perseverance, team spirit, motivation and the willingness to encourage younger girls to keep playing. This can do attitude got this team to a County Final and for the first time in the history of the Ladies' Football in Wexford,

Special recognition awards were presented to girls who gave outstanding performance and commitment to the team during the year, Minor Player of the year: Niamh Tormey, County Final player of the match was Rebeca Foley, Young player of the year Laura Bruen who unfortunetly could not make the night but was represented by her Dad Pat Bruen, Most improved player of the year Niamh Buckley, Joint Adult Players of the year: Danielle Chin and Niamh Butler.

Team Captain Aoife Tormey and Vice Captain Niamh Buckley ended the speech's thanking everyone who was involved with the team, Patrick O'Sullivan, Paddy Brennan, Denise Leniston and all the backroom team that are involved with Clonard Volunteers Ladies, invited guests and complimented the management and staff of the Talbot Hotel on such a fantastic evening.

A big thank you to Brendan Benson and Kieran Brennan for capturing the night with many great photos and also to Tony Crosbie for sponsoring the much used unique Clonard Volunteers photo frame, thanks to all our sponsors for 2016 your support was much appreciated.

No dance class

There will be no social dance class in Camross Ballroom on this Thursday, December 8, due to a prebooked event but classes will resume on Thursday, December 15, at 8.45 p.m. Come along and Vilma will have you dancing Quick Steps, Modern Jive, and several other dances.

Dancing at Camross

Liam Mannering had his huge number of followers dancing well into the early hours of Sat mornng last. Liam and Marie will be back in Camross during 2017 but Catherine and the Images will provide the music for the first dance of 2017 which will be held on Friday, January 6. The committee of Camross Hall thank all who supported their monthly dances during 2016 and a very happy Christmas to all with every good wish for 2017.

Camross Drama Group

After the Group's successful run of One-act plays, thoughts are now turning to planning for the Three-act play for Spring 2017. There will be a reading of 'Canaries' by Bernard Farrell, a comedy, on Wednesday, December 7, 8 p.m. in Caroreigh Old School. Actors, male and female, of all ages invited to read for casting. Camross ICA

We had a great day on Sunday, November 27, in the Taghmon-Camross GAA Complex where we had our annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party. A big thank you goes to Fr Robert MC for the day, to Taghmon-Camross GAA Complex for the lovely venue, and to Mick and Michelle Carty who looked after the bar.

We are also very grateful to all who entertained us all through the afternoon: the In House Band - Joe and Jack Curran, Joan Quigley and Mick Sinnott; Marie O'Rourke; Marian Donnely; Aoife Codd; dancers, Gillian and Laura Banville and Aideen Winters; harpist, Niamh Leacy; dancer, Ciara Goddard; tin whistle player, Cora Banville; Paddy Curran; Val Whitty; Fr Robert Maguire; Maggie Morrissey; Fr David Murphy and Breda Banville. We would like to extend a massive thank you to them all for a wonderful afternoon. And let's not forget the ICA ladies who prepared and served a delicious Christmas dinner.

The Federation meeting took place on November 28 in the Ferry Carrig Hotel. Mary Kelly did the double winning both the hot cross bun and the cherry cake competitions. Congratulations Mary - a very talented lady. Also well done to Breda Whelan on her cherry cake entry. Congratulations also to Majella Colfer for her beautiful Roman blind creation from the sample book. 21 guilds had crafts made from sample books and all were amazing.

A few dates for your diary: December 8, Our Christmas party will take place in Marry Barry in Kilmore (7 p.m.). December 11, the Daniel O'Donnell Christmas Show. The total cost, which includes dinner, is €80.

Caroreigh NS

Irish/Leinster rugby player Tadhg Furlong visited St Garvan's NS, Caroreigh on Monday last. Tadhg of course was a member of the national side which defeated New Zealand, Australia and South Africa this year. He presented the school with an Irish jersey signed by all the members of the team that beat the All Blacks. Tadhg answered many questions from the children a a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Many thanks Tadhg.

Our Concert will take place Tuesday, December 13, in Camross Hall this year. Tickets available from the school or on the door on the night.

Santa's Grotto

Santa and Mrs Claus will be stopping by Taghmon Family Resource Centre on Thursday, December 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come and see them with Giggles the elf in our lovely Grotto. Cost is €2 per child.

Our lotto jackpot wasnt won last week, but there were six match-three winners. Winning numbers were 2, 3, 5 and 19. Our Adult AGM is on next Sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. in the centre, all club members and new members and players are very welcome to attend. Anyone that pays their membership at the meeting will be in with a chance to win your fee back.

Coiste na nÓg

The Coiste na nÓg AGM was held on Friday night, December 2, in the community centre. The following officers were elected, Chairperson Sharon Murphy, Secretary Darren Colfer, Treasurer to be decided at adult AGM, Children's Officer Catriona Hannon, Irish Officer Dan O'Flaherty, PRO. Eilish Winters.

A big thank you to outgoing Chairman Justin Kelly and outgoing secretary David Foley for all their hard work and commitment during their time in office.

Managers for the underage teams were elected on the night with some positions yet to be filled.
