Happy Christmas

Sympathy

Our condolences to Frankie and Mary Coady and family, Oldcourt, Adamstown on the death of Frankie's father Willie Coady who died on Friday, December 9. Willie was predeceased by his wife Hannah, much loved father to Frankie, Beth and Patrick. Our sympathy also to his brother Séamus and Patrick, Sister Mary his grandchildren and his extended family, relations, friends and neighbours. His funeral Mass took place on Sunday, December 11, in St Abban's Church with burial afterwards in St Abban's cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Cards

The weekly '30' card game continues in the Community Centre this Friday, December 23, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Proceeds going to Parish Funds. Catering on Friday, December 23, will be Rita Furlong, Catherine English, Bernie Power and Ann English; on Friday, December 30, will be Mary Jackman, Eleanor Power and Ann Jackman.

Card winners on Friday, December 9, were Mick Bolger, James Handrick, John Furlong, Jim Wickham, Tom Rochford, John Murphy, Seán Cullen and Johnny Nolan. Christmas Ham winners were Marie O'Connor and Sam Deacon.

Carol Service

Children from Adamstown NS will perform a Carol Service in St Abban's Church on Tuesday, December 20, at 7 p.m. and all welcome to attend.

Adamstown lotto

The winning numbers in the Adamstown lotto draw on Friday, December 9, were 1, 5, 13 and 24. There was no jackpot winner, the following two players matched three numbers and each got €100. Ellie Walsh, Tomgarrow and Kay White, Ballyclemock. The next draw takes place on Friday the 30th for a jackpot of €13,000. Keep buying the tickets, it could be your lucky numbers next. When this jackpot is won the next one will start at €4,800.

ICA News

On Sunday evening last 92 guests attended our Senior Citizens party in the Horse and Hound. There was music, songs, dancing, recitations and comedy galore. Everyone had a most enjoyable evening. A big thank you to Dermot and everyone who entertained (too numerous to mention). We would also like to thank our sponsors who contributed generously to make the event happen. They are Bernie Bradley, Shamrock Vintage Club, Adamstown Hall Committee and everyone who brought spot prizes.

Our December meeting took place on Wednesday the 14th. There was a good attendance. The president Helen Furlong thanked all the members for all their help with the Senior Citizens party. Mary J gave a lovely demonstration of Christmas arrangements. The competition for the nicest Christmas card was won by Mary Lawlor. Everyone enjoyed a cuppa before the president wished everyone a Happy Christmas and exchanged Christmas presents.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the parishioners a Happy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Athletic Club News

Well done to Ben and Robert Wall who were competing in Dundalk last weekend at the National Uneven Age Cross Country. They both came home with silver medals as they were part of the county under-13 Boys' team that finished in second place. Fantastic result boys. All competitions have come to an end for 2016. Our annual awards night is Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 7.30 p.m. at the community centre. All athletes and their families are invited, hope to see you all there. Happy Christmas to all.

Musical Theatre Class

Names are now being taken for a new children's Musical Theatre Class in Raheen Hall. This class will cover all aspects of stage, including drama, movement/dance and signing as well as lots of games and improvisation fun. Subject to interest, it will take place on Thursday evenings. Christmas Masses

The Christmas Eve Vigil Mass will be in Galbally at 7 p.m. and in Bree and Ballyhogue at 9 p.m. Mass on Christmas morning in both Bree and Galbally at 10 a.m. Fr Byrne and Fr Quinn wish all parishioners a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year. May the coming of the Holy Family enlighten all your homes and hearts with love, faith and peace this Christmas.

Indoor training resumes on January 12 at 7 p.m. for five to eight and from 7.45 for all others. Well done to Ciara Laffan on winning the bronze at the national final of 'Fastest Feet' in Tullamore on Saturday last. Well done also to Cian O'Donovan and Jayden Kenny on reaching the national final. We wish all members and their families a happy Christmas.

Bree Macra wishes its members and their families a happy Christmas and a Happy New Year. Club highlights of 2016 include the clubs senior citizens Christmas Tea Party, National runners-up awards in Capers and Public Speaking as well as county titles/entries in events such as soccer, bowling and question time. A huge thank you to everyone who made these events possible.

Activities planned for 2017 include a Senior Citizens Tea Party (provisionally planned for Easter time this year), National Talent competition, Capers, tag rugby, Volleyball as well as trips to different Macra events. Check out Bree Macra on Facebook for more info.

Active Retirement

The Christmas party Day is on this Wednesday, December 21, in the Riveside Hotel at 1.30 p.m. - members and non-members welcome. The next meeting of the group will be the club AGM on January 18. We would love to have full attendance for that meeting. As we prepare for our break over Christmas from bowls and social afternoons, we would like to wish everyone a very peaceful and happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year. The quest to find the next Mayor of Barntown is well and truly ready to go, even though it's launch date is on January 6, 2017. The Candidates who will undergo various tasks to gain valuable votes are, Martina Brazzill, Billy Codd, Tom Dempsey, Mag Gurhy, Donie O'Dowd and Declan Power.

Please support your favourite on what will be a fun filled event for everybody that will be run over 12 weeks culminating in one candidate becoming the New Mayor of Barntown on March 26, 2017.

SENIOR GAA

Glynn-Barntown GAA Club is looking for volunteers to go on the New Bar Committee to help in arranging functions and events. We are also looking for people to help out behind the bar. If you are interested please contact a member of the Executive Committee before January 2, 2017.

Club lotto Numbers Wednesday, December 14, in Marty's Bar were 10, 17, 21 and 30. No jackpot winner.
