Blackwater AGM

The Blackwater AGM was held on December 11 in Whelans Bar and Lounge attended by over 60 club members. Liam Buttle (chairman) chaired meeting and Keith Barrett reported that the club is in a healthy position going forward into 2017.

Wheelbarrow race

There will be a wheelbarrow race taking place on St Stephen's Day in aid of Delilah. The race will be starting at Thomas Corrigan's car park, Blackwater at 4=A0 p.m. For more information contact 087 9019027.


Camogie Club news

The club would like to wish all of its members and supporters a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Hopefully it'll be a successful one all round. Jerseys are still available to buy, and would make great Christmas presents, please contact Christine Martin or Tina Farrell for more info. GAA club notes

Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA Club would like to thank most sincerely all those who provided sponsorship to the club during 2016 and to wish every one a very Happy Christmas and every good wish for 2017.

Club dinner dance: Reserve Saturday, January 21, to celebrate with the club at our dinner dance in the Ferrycarrig hotel. Medals will be presented on the night to our winning county intermediate and minor teams and our under-21 district winners. Music will be provided by American Heart, tickets €25 available from any committee member, we look forward to seeing you there.

Parents' association

The 2017 Calendar is now available to order in the school office. This would be a lovely keepsake for anyone and would make a fantastic Christmas for any family members relations and friends.

Mulled Wine/Tea/coffee

The community development group will be hosting a tea or coffee, mulled wine and mince pie reception in the Old School after mass on Christmas Eve. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the festivities, celebrate the Season. please come along and join us.


Christmas services

In preparation for the Feast of the Nativity, a Penance Service will be held in St Patrick's Church on Sunday, December 18, at 7.30 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated in Oulart at 9 p.m.


Oulart Church Choir will hold a practice for Christmas on Tuesday, December 20, at 8 p.m., in the parish church, St Patrick's. Singers of all ages are invited and all are reminded that 'to sing is to pray twice'.

Red and Black Ties

Last year Oulart-The Ballagh GAA commissioned a special order of Red and Black Club Ties, featuring the unique club crest. These ties are available to buy from the club and would make an ideal Christmas present for family members and friends.

300 Club Draw

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA held its 300-1 Draw last week and the results were as follows: The First Prize of €500 went to Colette McRedmond. And the second prize of €250 was won by Fr Paddy Browne.

The five lucky winners of €50 each were John Adams, Fintan and Deirdre O'Leary, Darren and Pauline Moore, Conal Gallagher, Lar Roche. Spar shopping vouchers valued at €40 each went to Lar Dempsey, Trevor and Theresa Greigan and Aidan Finn.

A Bottle of Brandy each was won by Mark Rossiter, Blackwater GAA Club and Dermot Royce while Bottles Whiskey were won by Fran and James Davis, Tommy Devereux Kyle and Michael Sinnott, Ballinerode. Vodka was won by Johnny Murray, Tom Whelan and Damien Davitt and Stacrey Kehoe. Prizes of two bottles wine and biscuits went to Cormac and Niall Finn, Atkinson Family, Slievnagreine and Jimmy and Lucy Bolger.

GAA Season Ticket

The Wexford GAA Season Ticket will be available from Thursday, December 1. The cost is €140 if bought before December 23. The cost will be €160 if bought in January 2017. Tickets make ideal Christmas presents for GAA enthusiasts. Tickets can be bought from the GAA Office in Wexford Park or online through Paypal.

Get Well Wishes

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health are extended to all the sick of the parish, at home or in hospital. In the interests of privacy and security, the names of people in hospital will not be published unless requested by themselves or their families.

Senior Citizens Party

Oulart Senior Citizens Committee will host the annual Senior Citizens Party on Sunday, January 15, at 2 p.m. People over 65 years are all welcome to attend. Invitations will be sent out but, in case someone is inadvertently omitted, the committee would ask that it be brought to their attention so that it can be rectified. If you know someone eligible to attend who has recently moved into the area please notify the organisers. All queries to Eddie O'Grady or Seán Byrne. The organisers wish to thank everyone who contributed to the recent Church Gate Collection.

CDs for sale

The parents' association of Scoil Mochua are delighted to announce that the CD can be purchased from Scoil Mochua and from Oulart Post Office and Spar Supermarket at a cost of €10 each, with a sliding scale if more than one is bought.


Everyone is encouraged to do split-the-pot to support Scoil Mochua. Entry envelopes are available in all local businesses. To be in with a chance to win just put €2 in the special envelope, seal it and write your name and contact details on the front. There is a winner every week. The latest winner is Janet McLoughlin who got a return of €168 for her two euro entry.

Bonus Prizes: To thank all who support the split-the-pot in Oulart there will be five extra bonus prizes in the last draw before Christmas, Monday, December 19. As well as the pot winner, additional names will be drawn and the winners will receive a Christmas Bonus Prize.

Camogie club news

Camogie Club news

The club will be selling raffle lines for a trailer load of timber over the next few weeks. This is our first Féile fundraiser and we would really appreciate everyones support. one line is €2 or three lines for €5. All our under-14 girls have a raffle sheet as well and would love you to support them. They can also be found in the local shops and pubs. Draw will take place on Thursday, December 22. Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football Club presents Operation Transformation and Between the Bells 2017, a community fitness activity for all the family - let's get fitter together.

Crossabeg Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football Club organised a fundraiser to get the community active in 2016. It was a great success and we will be running the same format in January 2017.

The fit-fun starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, and finishes on Tuesday, February 21. The final get together will take place on Tuesday, February 28. More information can be found on the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football Facebook page.

A karaoke night with Tina will be held in Mernagh's Lounge on Thursday, December 22.

Reprint of book

In 2008 our book 'Oylegate-Glenbrien, A Look Back in Time' was published and it sold out in three weeks. Since then, many people have asked about getting a copy. The Oylegate-Glenbrien Journal Committee is now considering ordering a reprint, possibly in soft cover. At present we would like to gauge the level of interest in purchasing the book.

If you would like to buy a copy please contact email or call or Text: Tom Miller at 086 8677334 giving your contact details. The Journal Committee will then get back to you in due course.

The book, in soft back, will cost approx. €20 per copy, and a non-refundable deposit of €10 would be needed to place an order, if we go ahead with the venture. The closing date for ordering your copy will be January 15, 2017.

Kettlebell Classes

Kettlebell Power Fitness classes for ladies, continue in Oylegate Community Centre, on Wednesday evenings... 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Excercise mats and kettlebells are provided. Beginners and all fitness levels are welcome. For more info contact 087 6180872, or just arrive on the night.


Eucharistic Adoration takes place every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Prayer Room in the church. This is a time of silent reflection and intercessory prayer for personal and parish intentions. We are looking for new members to commit to spending one-hour weekly (at a time of your choice) in prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament.
