Minor Football

ST. JOHN'S VOLUNTEERS 2-07 OUR LADY'S ISLAND/ST. FINTANS 1-08: Another game and another narrow defeat for the boys today in not ideal conditions. After a pitch inspection, the game commenced with a Vols point quickly replied to with an Adam Devereux point from play before the town side netted from close range after some good work from their right wing and corner forwards.

The next three points all came from our boys, Shane Pettit (free), Liam Flood and Devereux again bringing us level at 1-01 to 0-04 just 16 minutes in.

Two quick Vols scores from a free and a well hit 45 regained the lead before one more point apiece with David Pettit pointing from close range leaving the half time score at 1-04 to 0-05 in favour of the town team.

The home side extended their lead with and early point, a fortuitous goal and two more points with a Devereux point being the only reply.

The final 15 minutes seen a bit of a resurgence from the boys, with some hard competing and firm shoulders bringing an edge to the game that seen the final three scores going out way after their keeper saved superbly from the penalty spot. These were points for Devereux and Flood followed by a Cian Meyler goal.

Next Sunday sees the lads grab the ash and travel to Mersheen to take on St James'
