Fundraiser thanks

Glenbrien National school would like to thank all those who came along to support the Fundraising Dog night on Thursday, June 1, a fantastic night was had by all. A huge thank you to all the sponsors and those who donated prizes for the raffle it was very much appreciated.

First Aid Course

The course being hosted by the camogie club is now fully booked. Please note a change in venue - it will now take place in the clubhouse from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any further enquiries please contact Christine Martin.

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, June 11. Music is by Blue Lace, who are no strangers to the social dancing scene. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission is €8. Come along for a lovely night of music, dancing, and refreshments.

GAA lotto

In the lotto draw held on May 31 numbers drawn were 4, 11, 20 and 26 bonus 30. The lucky-dip winners were Sarah Hayden, Majella Doran, Tommy Rowe, Anthony Doyle, Trevor Moulton, Anthony Doyle, Catherine Murphy, and David Moulton. Next draw is June 14 in Mernaghs. Tickets available locally.

Glynn-Barntown

RACKARD LEAGUE

A massive well done to Barntown NS who created a little bit of history last Thursday evening by winning the Rackard League A hurling final to complete the double, having won the A Football earlier in the school year.

The boys were outstanding on the field and dominated the game going in to the interval 3-6 to 0-1 up against Piercestown-Murrintown NS. The opposition battled back in the second half but the Barntown boys rallied to keep the distance between the teams. The final score was 3-9 to 1-4.

Our scorers: Daragh Murphy 1-7 (0-6 frees), Ferdia Reynolds 1-1, Seán Cooney 1-0 and Daniel Brazzill 0-1. Well done to all.

BREE MACRA RELAUNCH

Bree Macra is relaunching the club just in time for the new Macra year. With lots of upcoming events and nights planned the club is kicking off in style with a Relaunch Night in Byrnes of Bree on June 9 from 9 p.m.

It's an ideal opportunity for anyone aged 17-35 in Bree, Cloughbawn, Davidstown, Glynn and surrounding parishes to come along and check us out. Whether it's nights out, sports, debating, performing, community involvement, travel, agri events you're interested in, or just general craic, Bree Macra is here so come along and meet the present and past members.

FERRYCARRIG ROWING CLUB

Training continues for the Ferrycarrig Rowing Club. Come along and give it a try. We will be on-shore beside the 'Giraffe' every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening from 7 p.m. Wear trainers and bring a bottle of water. Look forward to seeing you there.

Oulart

Parish Patrons

The annual patron will take place in Oulart on Sunday, June 25, beginning at 2 p.m. There will be prayers in the Old Cemetery at 1.30 p.m. The patron in the Ballagh will be held on Sunday, July 2, beginning at 2 p.m. The four weekend Masses will be offered for all our faithful departed.

Coffee morning.

The annual coffee morning in aid of St Mochua's Chapel will be held in Marty's Bar on Friday, June 9, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. There will be a door prize and a raffle. The continued generous support of the people of the parish will be greatly appreciated.

School news

The pupils of Scoil Mochua will soon be embarking on their annual School Tours. The junior and Senior Infants will visit Kia Ora Farm, Third and Fourth classes will experience Blessington Base Camp East, Fifth and Sixth Classes will visit Glasnevin Cemetery and the National Acquatic Centre. On the evening of June 9, the sixth class will visit Leisure Max, sponsored by the parents' association.

'Scoil Mochua's Got Talent' will take place on June 8 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The End of Year Mass will take place on June 20 at 10 a.m. On June 22 the incoming Junior Infants will be treated to a Teddy Bears Picnic.

The school closes at midday on June 23 and the annual field day will take place after the patron on June 25.

FIELD DAY

The Scoil Mochua annual field day will take place on Sunday, June 25, following the patron. This year all funds raised will go towards painting and maintenance of the school building. It is always a very enjoyable day out and there will be the usual array of attractions; bouncy castle and obstacle course, bottle stall, wheel of fortune, barbecue, cake stall, bric-a-brac, hurling, penalty shots, fishing and tea and coffee shop. Please come and support this worthwhile event while having great fun too.

SPLIT THE POT

The winner of this week's split-the-pot is Patricia Murphy winning €144.

USED CLOTHES COLLECTION

Thanks to all of you who contributed to the Used Clothes Collection on Tuesday, May 30, €400 was raised for the school.

Camogie news

The under-14s girls had a busy few days in their championship campaign. They played Kilrush on Friday, May 26. While the girls played well, Kilrush proved too strong on the day winning by 3-09 to 1-03. They played St Ibar's on Monday, May 29, and won by 1-06 to 0-00. They have one round game left to play against Glynn-Barntown and we wish them well in that game.

The under-eights will play in their first blitz on Sunday, June 11, in St Mary's Rosslare. Have loads of fun girls.

Ministers of the Word

Ministers of the Word at St Patrick's Church, Oulart for the weekend, June 11 are Eileen Kehoe-Flynn and Anne Sinnott. On the following weekend, June 18, Linda Masterson and Breda Jacob will be on reading duty while Angela Lawless and Eileen McGrath will read at Masses on weekend of June 25.

Variety Concert DVD

The DVD from the recent Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Variety Concert is now available from the club shop, priced at only €10. Contact Club treasurer, Pauline Davitt (087 6864594), to order a copy.

The Ballagh field day

Preparations for the field day on July 2 are continuing and the volunteers have set about looking for sponsorship, donations and prizes for the various stalls that will be present on the day. We depend very much on the generosity of our local businesses and this is very much appreciated.

Raffle tickets will be delivered to each house in the parish in the coming weeks and we are asking parishioners to kindly support the draw by buying as many of the tickets as possible. A note will accompany the tickets to let households know who will be collecting the tickets and when.

Any donations of bottles for the bottle stall or other items can be given at this time also. Your support as always is much appreciated. The next meeting will take place in the community centre on Tuesday, June 13, at 8 p.m.

NOW TAKING BOOKINGS

Smart Kidz playschool is opening in September 2017. It is located two miles from Oylegate and Glenbrien just off the main N11 road.

In a country location where the children will get to meet a variety of farm animals. ECCE Scheme places will be available for children from three to five years Monday to Friday from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. Children from aged two 1/2 can also attend for a fee of €5 per hour. Golf classic

Féile

The Féile na nGael will be on the weekend of June 16 to June 18. Oylegate-Glenbrien will be hosting some teams. On Friday, June 16, there will be a meeting of the eight teams in Oylegate pitch at 3.30 p.m. Games will then begin and continue till 6.30 p.m. for both boys and girls. Féile games will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the quarter finals and semi - finals on in the afternoon.

There will be a feile disco on Saturday evening from 8.00 p.m. to 10 p.m. The finals will be played on Sunday Morning in Ferns. We wish all those taking part the best of luck over the week-end.

Symapthy

Deepest sympathy is extended to the wife, daughters, mother, brother, sisters other relatives and friends of Myles Quigley Maudlintown Wexford and formerly of Oylegate, who was buried on Friday last in Crosstown Cemetery following midday mass. May he rest in peace.

Best of luck to all our camogie club members sitting their Leaving and Junior Certificate Exams in the coming weeks. Go n-éirí an t-adh libh!

New members, both young and old, are always welcome to join our club. Under-8s train on Mondays at 6.30 p.m., under-10s on Mondays at 6.30 p.m., under-12s on Mondays at 6.30 p.m., under-14s on Mondays and Fridays at 6 p.m., under-16s on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., Minor Fridays at 6.30 p.m. and junior and intermediate on Mondays and Fridays at 7 p.m.

Ladies' Football

Under-8 training is every Wednesday evening in Crossabeg pitch at 6.30 with Ciaran Kearney (087 6121959). Registration is €30 and gum shields must be worn. Under-10 and under-12 training is also on every Wednesday evening in Crossabeg Pitch at 6.30 p.m.

Kettlebell Classes

Kettlebell Power Fitness classes for ladies, continue in Oylegate Community Centre, on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Excercise mats and kettlebells are provided. Beginners and all fitness levels are welcome. For more info contact 087 6180872.

Adoration
