St Fintan's GAA

This time of year is a busy one for both the adult and underage teams of St Fintan's GAA Club. The intermediate football team was first to take to the field when it traveled to Bellfield to take on Ferns St Aidan's in the Amber Springs/Ashdown Park Hotels intermediate football championship group A. A good lively start set up this 4-09 to 0-16 victory with Shane Sinnott and Jason Pettit scoring goals within the first 10 minutes and Pettit was to score his second major just before half time to leave the score at the break 3-02 to 0-03. The fourth goal was scored by Conor Sinnott from the penalty spot after Shane Sinnott was fouled in the penalty box.

The junior hurlers scored a home victory over Cloughbawn in Ballymore. A close first half with each side matching scores. The second half brought Cloughbawn to within two points before the lads picked up some momentum knocking over a number of unanswered points and a riveting goal from our very own champion jockey Jamie Codd to take an eight point lead with 15 minutes to go. A couple of more scores from both teams kept the crowd entertained before the final whistle resulted in a 3-13 to 3-07 victory. Well done to team and management. The coming week will see the intermediate football team travel to Taghmon on Sunday to take on Adamstown in round four of the championship at 6 p.m.

A big shout out to our wonderful players, members and supporters who joined in the 'Dawn Walk' in Rathangan. Almost 600 walkers united in a show of acknowledgement and support for all those suffering with mental health difficulties in our clubs and communities. The green and gold was definitely the best represented club and parish. Well done to everyone. Small club, small parish but mighty heart. Together we CAN make a difference.

On Thursday evening the under-16 hurlers will take on St Anne's in Carne at 7.30 p.m. Last week's results were in minor football Roinn 1B the lads received a walkover from Rathgarogue-Cushinstown.

In the juvenile (under-16) football Roinn 1B championship St Joseph's took the spoils 4-09 to 1-06 while in the under-14 hurling championship Div.2 St Anne's were too strong and took the spoils 4-07 to 1-05.
