Monthly meetings and activities resume after the summer vacation on the third Monday of September. The guild meets in the comfort of Cooney's Lounge. (Paul Roche's). New members are always welcome to join and former members are encouraged to renew their membership of this progressive guild.
Mise Éire Monument
The new monument in Oulart, erected to commemorate the Rising of 1916 and the War of Independence is nearing completion and will be unveiled on the first Sunday in October. This unique monument, has already received very favourable comment and will, very fittingly, serve to remind the present and future generations of the ideals and heroism of the people of that turbulent time.
The opening ceremony will be performed by the chairman of Wexford County Council, Mr John Hegarty, who will address all present and then call on Michael and Laurence de Lacy to unveil the Monument. These two gentlemen, whose father and two uncles played leading roles in the 'Cause', donated the site for Mise Éire in proud memory of all the local people who took part in the struggle.
Everybody in the community and across the county is earnestly invited to be present for what will be a truly historic day. Lots of help will be needed beforehand and on the day, and volunteers are asked to contact any committee member.
Stewarding, catering and general tidying up of all the historic sites in the village, on the Hill and along the 'Jean Kennedy-Smith Walk' will be the most demanding areas of activity as we approach the big day.
Even though Oulart NS is closed for the summer holidays the weekly split-the-pot continues as usual. The most recent winner is Paddy Fortune, who won €100. Please continue to support the school's fundraising effort by entering in local businesses.
