Congratulations

A huge well done to our good neighbours and friends Our Lady's Island, who captured the Junior B Football District Cup with a victory over St Mary's Rosslare. Congratulations from all at St Fintan's and we hope that you enjoyed your evening of celebrations.

All Blacks AFC

The under-14s schoolboys went down on a 2: 0 scoreline against a very good Gorey Celtic team in the first league game of the season. The lads gave their all and left everything on the pitch but just came up short.

With continued hard work we are sure that there will be better days ahead. Well done to Cathal and Philip, who qualified for there hurling county finals earlier in the day and hard luck to Tadgh H and Tadgh Mcwho missed out.

St Fintan's gaa

The St Fintan's intermediate football team travelled to Cushinstown during the recent past to take on Clongeen in the final game of group A of the Amber Springs/Ashdowne park hotels intermediate championship with nothing less than a victory required to qualify for a quarter final slot in this year's championship.

The first score and last score for the Ballymore-Mayglass men were both goals with the final score yielding a final scoreline of 2-10 to 0-11 and setting up a quarter final clash with Kilanerin.

The St Fintan's men looked to be cruising when they set up a 1-07 to 0-04 scoreline at the break but seemed to take the foot off the gas in the second half to let Clongeen back into the contest. During this half St Fintan's suffered a scare when a Clongeen player crashed a ball against the upright which rebounded to safety. Donal Shanley then tagged on a couple of points before Cathal O'Brien secured the points with a major.

Under-14 Hurling

The Our Lady's Island/St Fintan's under-14 hurling team travelled to Craanford to take on the homeside in the New Ross Standard hurling championship.

The clubs played out a draw when they met in the group stages earlier on in the year and from the throw in on this occasion it was plain to see that thiswas also going to be a battle royal and so it proved to be with extra time required to decide the outcome.

The young men from Craanford over came a spirited Our Lady's Island/St Fintan's team on a scoreline of 2-07 to 2-05 in what was a ding dong battle. Well done, all.

Important Announcement

It is now just a week since Duncormick was rocked by the sudden and tragic death of Ger Murphy of Commons Farm. At just forty two years of age, Ger had accomplished much. Commons Farm shines as testimony to his vision, his energy, his attention to detail and his multitude of skills. Ger built Commons Farm as a state of the art farm, but also as a lovely home place for his family: Clara, Cathal, Faye and Austin.

It was out of this that Duncormick Harvest Festival was conceived. A happy celebration of Duncormick life, its past, its people, its produce and its potential, it proved to be an unforgettable and wonderful success in 2016. But now as the days pass, it has become increasingly clear that the spirit of celebration will be impossible to muster this year.

Ger's Months Mind will be on Sunday 1st Oct, the proposed date for the festival. It has therefore been decided to defer the festival this year. We apologise to anyone who is affected, and we trust that all will understand and accept. Our heartfelt sympathies to the Murphy family and relations and many friends. Rest in Peace Ger Murphy.
