Cards

The weekly '30' card game continues in the community centre this Friday, September 22, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday, September 22, will be Breda Bolger, Helen Furlong and Liz Furlong; catering on Friday, September 29, will be Frances Gallagher and Mary J Furlong; on Friday, October 6, will be Angela Dooley, Elizabeth Doyle, and Maria Carty; on Friday, October 13, will be Catherine Moore, Kathleen O'Connor, Nancy Walsh and Tina Whelan. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Card winners on Friday, September 9, were Mick Hanlon, Séamus Wickham, Seán Cullen, Johnny Nolan, Ann Lawlor, Chris Byrne, Mick Bolger and James Handrick.

Adamstown lotto

The next draw in the Adamstown lotto takes place this Friday, September 22, in the community centre for a jackpot of €13,000. Do buy a ticket and be in with a chance.

Athletics News

Adamstown AC held their annual open cross country on Sunday September 10. The rain held off for a very successful day of running at the first cross country event of the season.

The races kicked off with the tiny tots' girls and boys races. Well done to some of our younger athletes, Bobby O'Shea, Henry McDonald, Grace White, Edmund Crean and Ailish Mooney. Aine Crean ran a great race to finish in 3rd place in the U9 400m in a field of 25 athletes which also included Abigail Crean. Bobby McDonald and Riain O'Shea both ran well in the U10 boys 800m. Ross English finished 2nd in the U11 boys 800m with Watt Crean finishing in 5th place. Grainne English was 4th in the U12 girls 1200m with Sadbh Crean finished 10th in the same race. Niamh English was 2nd in the U13 girls 1200m with her club mates Isobel English (6th) and Ciara Mooney also running in the same race.

Well done to Donny McDonald in the U13 boys 1200m race and Katie English and Sinead Roche in the U14 girls 1600m. Ben Wall won the U14 boys 1600m race with his brother Robert Wall finishing in 4th place. Well done to Aoibhinn Crean (6th) and Ella English (8th) in the U15 girls 1600m and Kate Jackman (5th) in the U16 girls 2000m race. Well done to Triona Mooney (3rd) and Sonia Mooney in the Junior Ladies 2400m race and Marie Mooney who ran in the Senior Ladies 2400m race.

Thanks to all the people who helped out on the day, stewards, parkers, workers in the shop and on the field and Ronnie Bent on the PA system. A special word of thanks to Stuart and Gavin Rothwell for use of the field. Thank you to all those that sponsored prizes for our races and supplied us with buns/sandwiches for the shop. Adamstown AC would also like to thank Sports Active Wexford for supporting our Cross Country event.

Church gate collection

The Irish Heart Foundation's annual church gate collection will take place on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24.

The Irish Heart Foundation is the only National Voluntary Organisation working towards the prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, such as Angina, Heart Attack, Stroke and other circulatory diseases, which is the single greatest cause of death in Ireland. Please give generously. Many thanks for your continued support.

Junior Cert Results

Church Notices

Thursday, September 21, feast of St Matthew Apostle, Mass at 9.30 a.m.

St Anthony's Mass and Novena Prayers will continue every Tuesday night in St Abban's Oratory at 7.30 p.m.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Monday to Friday. New volunteers very welcome.

The Dick Williams Memorial tractor run is being held on Sunday, October 1, leaving Taghmon Community Centre at 11 a.m. Spot prizes include two night weekend away.

Handball Club news

Capitalising on his recent county win, Colm Parnell has added the Leinster under-17 Singles 60/30 title to his handball medal collection. He defeated stiff opposition from Meath and then Kilkenny in the Leinster final in Garryhill. Best of luck from Ballyhogue Handball Club to Colm in the all-Ireland semi-final.

Fitness Training

Smart Fitness: Circuit Training with Collette Butler every Tuesday and Thursday evening in Galbally Hall 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. €7.50 per session or pay €13 on Tuesday for both classes. Bring a towel, water and a friend. Any questions contact Collette: 086 3927655.

Bree Youth Club

Bree Youth Club has reopened on Friday nights. Junior Club will run from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. And Senior Club from 8.30.10 p.m. Young people wishing to join must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents are strongly encouraged to help with supervision in the club. We ask one adult from each household to give just three hours of their time over the course of the club year to help with supervision. With a little help from everyone we can continue to provide a meeting place for the young people of the parish and surrounding areas.

Active Retirement

The next social of Bree ARI will take place on Wednesday, September 20, at the usual times from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a committee meeting before the social event at 1.30 p.m. We wish our bowling team good luck in Killarney. For more information contact 086 0747823.

Community Centre

Organisations using or intending to use Bree Community Centre for the resumption of activities in September are asked to contact Eddie Dunne to confirm, book regular meetings, classes and events. This is to ensure that there are no overlaps or confusion around bookings.

A full guild meeting takes place in Bree Community Centre at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19. Anyone wishing to join our guild would be very welcome.

Congratulations to Aoife Cloke Rochford on winning Wexford Athlete of the month for June. Congratulations also to Ryan Murray on being part of the Wexford Men's Team which won gold in Division 1 of the AAI National League.

Bree Parish Journal

Preparations are under way for this year's edition of Bree Parish Journal. All clubs and organisations in the parish are asked to have a report of their activities over the past two years ready by the end of Oct. The committee is also looking for photographs particularly of groups of people from times past as well as items suitable for publication pertaining to places or people of the area including notable family celebrations. The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An information booklet together with timetable is available at the back of Glenbrien Church.

A cabaret in aid of Hospice will be held on Saturday, September 30, in Mernaghs's Lounge Oylegate. Music by Derek and Jonathan and admission is €5. All welcome to support this worthy cause.

Senior Hurlers

The best of luck to the senior hurlers when the play Naomh Eanna in the county quarter final on Saturday, September 23, in Wexford Park at 5 p.m. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Relics of St Thérèse

The relics of St Thérèse and her parents Louis and Zélie Martin, will visit St Patrick's church, Oulart on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday, September 24. Bishop Brennan will receive the relics and celebrate Mass at 7.30 p.m. The relics will then be transferred to St Mochua's church, Oulart for an all night vigil till 6 a.m. The visit will end in St Patrick's church at midday on Sunday, with benediction.

Bingo Fundraiser

Bingo will be held in Mernagh's lounge every Thursday for the next 10 weeks. All proceeds will go to Oylegate church Repairs Fund. Please support.
