Adamstown

Cards

The weekly '30' card game continues in the community centre this Friday, September 29, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday the 29th will be Frances Gallagher and Mary J Furlong; on Friday, October 6, will be Angela Dooley, Elizabeth Doyle, and Maria Carty; on Friday, October 13, will be Catherine Moore, Kathleen O'Connor, Nancy Walsh and Tina Whelan. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Athletic Club news

Our Cross Country athletes travelled to Taghmon on Sunday 17th September for their 3rd Annual Open Cross Country. It was a lovely sunny day and we came home with many individual and team medals. The individual medals were won by Aine Crean 3rd U9 Girls, Bobby McDonald 10th U10 Boys, Ross English 2nd U12 Boys, Ben Wall 2nd U14 Boys, Aoibhinn Crean 2nd U16 Girls, Marie Mooney 3rd Senior Ladies and Triona Mooney 1st Junior Ladies. The team medals went to Ross English, Watt Crean and Jack O'Shea 3rd team U12 Boys race, Niamh English, Isobel English and Ciara Mooney 2nd Team U14 Girls race and Ben Wall, Robert Wall and Donny McDonald 2nd Team U14 Boys race. Well done to Abigail Crean in the U8 Girls race, Bobby O'Shea in the U8 Boys race, Riain O'Shea in the U10 Boys race, Grainne English and Sadbh Crean in the U12 Girls race. Well done to all our athletes on such great performances and are now in training for the County Cross Country beginning on the 1st October in JF Kennedy Park.

Sympathy

Our condolences to the family of Philomena Sinnott née Walsh, Haggardstown, Killinick, formerly Woodview Drive, and Kellystown Adamstown. Our sympathy is also extended to her mother Breda, her children Mick, Ellen, Philip, Patricia and Jimmy, her extended family, relations and friends. Her funeral Mass took place in St Fintan's Church, Taghmon on Sunday, September 17, with burial afterwards in Taghmon cemetery. May she rest in peace.

ICA NEWS

Our first meeting of Adamstown ICA after the summer break was held in the community centre on September 13 14 members attended all items were dealt with. Our annual walk in aid of the senior citizens Christmas party is on October 29 sponsorship cards will be out soon. Art classes 'painting' start on Monday, October 2, at 7.30 p.m. Anyone interested contact ICA members. Our hostesses on the night Geraldine and Ann served up a lovely cup of tea. Draw was won by Rita, Sheelagh won the competition. New members always welcome.

Cemetery Meeting

A meeting of the cemetery committee will be held in the community centre on Tuesday, September 26, at 9 p.m. All members please attend.

Irish Wheelchair Association are holding a church gate collection on October 7 and 8. Please give generously.

Hospice coffee day

A coffee day in aid of Wexford Hospice Homecare will be held at the home of Gerald and Mary Kelly, Wilkinstown near Barry's Cross on Thursday, September 28, from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Castle Vintage Club

The Dick Williams Memorial tractor run is being held on Sunday, October 1, leaving Taghmon Community Centre at 11 a.m. Spot prizes include a 2-night weekend away.

Harvest thanksgiving is on the weekend of September 30 and October 1. It is a time of thanking God for all that we have received. It is a time for us, as a community, to give expression to that thanks. Fresh flowers and/or shrubs would be most welcome to decorate the church. Home produce, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as preserved and canned foods would be greatly appreciated. Please leave at the back of the church on Friday evening or Sat morning.

Bree Youth Club

Bree Youth Club has reopened on Friday nights. Junior Club will run from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. And Senior Club from 8.30.10 p.m. Young people wishing to join must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents are strongly encouraged to help with supervision in the club.

We ask one adult from each household to give just three hours of their time over the course of the club year to help with supervision. With a little help from everyone we can continue to provide a meeting place for the young people of the parish and surrounding areas.

Community Centre

Organisations using or intending to use Bree Community Centre for the resumption of activities in September are asked to contact Eddie Dunne to confirm, book regular meetings, classes and events. This is to ensure that there are no overlaps or confusion around bookings.

The Taghmon Open CC took place on Sunday 17th Sept. Results are as follows. U8 Shane Laffan 1st, Jack Doyle 3rd; U9 Lea Bolger 2nd, Jayden Kenny 1st; U10 Maura Doyle 3rd and U11 Katie Doyle 4th. Well done to all involved. Their next outing will be this Sunday in Kennedy Park at 12 noon for Day 1 of the County Cross Country Championships.

Bree Parish Journal

Preparations are under way for this year's edition of Bree Parish Journal. All clubs and organisations in the parish are asked to have a report of their activities over the past two years ready by the end of Oct. The committee is also looking for photographs particularly of groups of people from times past as well as items suitable for publication pertaining to places or people of the area including notable family celebrations. Pioneer News

The structures, that served so well for so long, to create a representative Ferns Diocesan Committee for the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association seem to have broken down in the past couple of years. Suggestions and ideas of all pioneers in the diocese of Ferns would be welcome as to how the committee should go about revitalising the organisation in the diocese.

Male Voice Choir

On Friday, November 10, in Glenbrien Church there will be a concert with the Wexford Male Voice Choir and the children of the Holy Family School taking Part. This concert is a fundraiser for the parish funds, Tickets on sale in the coming weeks Tickets €10 each and will be available from members of the Glenbrien Development group and through the school more information over the coming weeks.

A cabaret in aid of Hospice will be held on Saturday, September 30, in Mernaghs's Lounge Oylegate. Music by Derek and Jonathan and admission is €5. All welcome to support this worthy cause.
