Adamstown: Coláiste Abbain News - TY Community Involvement Programme - This year our TY students are embracing a Community Involvement Initiative as part of their studies.

Engaging in community service provides students with the Coláiste Abbáin News opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. It enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most. Wednesday Walks - TY students have a morning community walking group every Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9.40 a.m. around the track at the community centre. (weather permitting)

The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, September 27, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday the 27th will be Marian Kelly, Catherine J Kelly, Catherine L Kelly and Mary Fortune. Catering on Friday, October 4, will be Eleanor Smyth, Emma Staunton and Bernie Conway. Catering on Friday, October 11, will be Breda Whelan, Deirdre Whelan and Bessie Fortune. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Split-the-pot Draw

The next draw takes place in Adamstown NS this Wednesday, September 25. Envelopes are available in Cullen's Gala, Adamstown Pharmacy, Bernie's Pub and Chipper and in the school. Your support is very much appreciated.

Rounders All Stars

Two girls off the silver medal all-Ireland winning team have been further honoured when recently announced as All Star award winners. They will honoured with the other All Star winners at a special banquet in the Green Isle Hotel Dublin at the end of the month. Congratulations and well done to the successful ladies Marie O'Sullivan of Carrigbyrne and Jo Ann Murphy from Raheen.

Adamstown Tidy Towns

Adamstown Tidy Towns would greatly appreciate all donations of spring bulbs, crocus, snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils. Donations can be dropped into Cullen's Gala Shop.

Adamstown ICA Guild

Adamstown ICA guild held their first meeting since the summer break on Wednesday, September 4, in the local Community Centre. The president Helen Furlong welcomed the ladies back and hoped all were well, and had enjoyed the summer holidays.

The secretary Ann McDonald read the minutes of the last meeting and had a lot of correspondence to get through. The autumn Federation meeting will be held in the Riverbank Hotel Wexford on Monday, October 23. The ladies have decided to go see the Downtown Abbey Film showing at present in the Omniplex Cinema, Eileen Thorpe looking into prices, suitable dates etc, and will report back.

Competition for the heaviest cooking apple was won by Ann McDonald and the raffle by Liz Furlong. A lovely tea was served by hostesses Gertie Mooney and Mary J Furlong. Next meeting Wednesday, October 9, at 8 p.m. in the community centre, new members most welcome to attend. Just come along as a guest for one or two meetings and see what we get up to, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Date for your Diary. St Abban's Adamstown GAA are holding a table quiz in Foley's Bar, Newbawn on Friday, October 4, at 8.30 p.m. All are welcome to come along to support your local club.

Line Dancing Classes

Line dancing classes starting in Raheen Hall Tuesday, October 1, at 11 a.m. Come along and get and stay fit while enjoying yourself. This dancing is so good for bone density. Men and Women all ages welcome. For further information please call Sarah at 087 9792483.

The Dick Williams Memorial tractor run is being held on Sunday, October 6, leaving Taghmon Community Centre at 11 a.m. Spot prizes on the day.


5k Fun run/walk

Dynamic Kickboxing Academy are organising a 5k fun run/walk in Ballymurn on October 29. more details to follow. This fundraiser is to help fund five of their teenagers to represent Ireland in the world kickboxing championships in New York in November.

The Over the Water Vintage Club are holding a road run on Sunday, October 13, starting from Ballymurn village at 12.30 p.m. All proceeds to Irish Pilgrimage Trust Group 04. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Couch to 5K

Couch to 5K continues every Wednesday night at seven. 15 in Oylegate pitch. As from next Wednesday there will also be a walking group at the same time. If anyone is stuck for a lift meet at the Anvil at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get out, get fit and meet new people.

Knitter Knatters

Ballymurn Knitter Knatters meet every Wednesday morning in the club room of the hall. Now that winter is approaching why not come along for a chat, a cup of tea and some crafts. .


Community craft day

Crafters get ready. The date for this year's community craft dayin Blackwater is Sunday, November 24. If you're interested in taking a table contact Yvonne through the Blackwater Lodge. We are always looking for new and exciting products but we welcome the artists who continue to support our craft day each year. Book your table early.

Vintage Threshing/Field Day

Blackwater Vintage Club's annual Vintage Threshing and Field day will take place in Blackwater village on Saturday, September 28, at 1 p.m. Other attractions include bottle stall, dog show, cake sale, live music and dancing with Declan, vintage display and many more.

Special attraction this year is a scarecrow making competition, straw will be provided, competitors to supply other materials and props, prizes for best scarecrow on the day. GAA club notes

Fixtures for the week: Sunday Minor Hurling Roinn one semi-final v Mogueen Gaels, Sunday morning at 11 a.m. in Taghmon. Best of luck, lads.

Our junior footballers lost to a strong Glynn-Barntown team in the junior football championship semi-final.

No winner of last nights lotto. Numbers were 8, 18, 22 and 31 and bonus was 15. Next jackpot is €14,400. Lucky-dip winners are Owen Cash, John Dooley, Paul Hamilton, Matt Kelly and seller's prize Nancy Hamilton.

The minor footballers lost in the Shield Quarter final to Gusserane.

The under-13 hurlers put in a serious effort but just lost out to Horeswood in the semi-final by four points.

This week 25 years ago, our 13-year stay in intermediate football came to a end when we lost to Réalt na Mara by 1-10 to 1-5. The paper stating that there was very little between the sides at half time with the Courtown/Ballygarret men leading by 1-4 to 0-5. They powered on with Declan Kellys late goal not enough to get us back into the game.

Would everyone connected with groups, asssociation etc in the Blackwater Parish please consider putting up notifications in the local newspaper. We are one of the few parishes that dont keep everyone informed of events, results of draws, enrollments upcoming and important events.

Bree Active Retirement

Smart Fitness

Smart Fitness Kettlebell and Circuit Training Classes return to Galbally Hall every Tuesday and Thursday evening at7 p.m. The classes are suitable for total beginners and are a mix of kettlebell, bodyweight, floor and core exercises. All Exercises are tailored to suit each individual's ability. All welcome, €8per session or €13 for any two. Yoga Classes

Yoga Classes will take place in Bree Community Centre with Grace Reddington on Monday nights from 8.15 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. and on Thursday mornings from 10.15 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. Sessions began on Monday, September 23, and continue for six weeks. Please bring your own mat. Cost is €60 for the six weeks or €12 drop in session.

Fashion Show

A Fashion Show takes place in the Riverside Park Hotel on Wednesday, October 16, in aid of Bree Community Playground. Enniscorthy based shops 'Glamour' and 'Ottiva' are supplying the fashion, 'Perfection by Mon' the make-up and Liam Sharkey is MC for the night. Tickets at €10 are now on sale in Garry Byrnes, Riverside Park Hotel and from any Committee Member.

Ballyhogue GAA lotto

There was no jackpot winner in the recent Ballyhogue GAA lotto draw. Match-three winners were Róisín Dawson, Liam Walsh, Noel Curtis, Colin Levingstone and Tomas Moriarty. Next jackpot €3,800 and the next draw is on October 2.

Scoil Mhuire NS Ballyhogue

The school will be holding a clothing collection on Wednesday, October 23.

We ask relatives of students attending the school as well as others in the community to collect any clothing or related items they no longer need.

Donations of all clothing types, paired shoes, belts, curtains, bed linens, towels and stuffed animals are accepted and should be dropped off at the school before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23. The school will receive funds for every kg donated. Thank you for your support.

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the local Tidy Towns, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Local Link Wexford

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communities of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An information booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.
