Adamstown: Line Dancing Classes - Line dancing classes have started in Raheen Hall every Tuesday Morning at 11am. Come along and get and stay fit while enjoying yourself.

Date for your Diary: St Abban's Adamstown GAA are holding a table quiz in Foley's Bar, Newbawn on Friday, October 4, at 8.30 p.m. All are welcome to come along to support your local club.


The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, October 4, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday, October 4, will be Eleanor Smyth, Emma Staunton and Bernie Conway. Catering on Friday, October 11, will be Breda Whelan, Deirdre Whelan and Bessie Fortune. Catering on Friday, October 18, will be Rosie Siggins, Maria Murphy and Maura Barden. This finishes the year's rota, if any young person out there would like to give their name and help out about once every six months it would be really appreciated. All proceeds from cards go to parish funds.

Ellie Walsh would like to express her immense gratitude to all those who wished her good luck, sent cards, gave gifts on the occasion of her retirement from Adamstown NS To the principal, teachers, SNAs, and all the children for the very enjoyable concert in the school on Friday last it was truly a wonderful send off.

Thanks to past and present school staff for their friendship and generosity. To the parents' association for their lovely gifts, and in organising the get-together in the community centre on Saturday night last, thanks to all who donated food and helped out etc., it was a special occasion thank you all. To Fr Nolan and the board of management thank you for your gift and good wishes. The thoughtfulness and kind words of each and every one of you will stay with me forever, thank you all so much.


The lucky winner in the Adamstown NS split-the-pot draw on Wednesday, September 25, was Shóna Duggan, who got €77, the school seller's prize went to Myia Siggins. Thanks for your continued support. The next draw will be on Wednesday, October 9.

Food Cloud

This spring Raheen FRC has entered in partnership with Food Cloud. Food Cloud redistribute the surplus food of different supermarkets to charities in the community.

Surplus food is food that is perfectly fit for human consumption, but cannot be sold for a variety of reasons (e.g. fresh produce that will not be sold the next day, short dated product, slightly damaged packaging or mistakes in ordering).

Development Meeting

The Development meeting to be hosted by Cllr Pat Barden on Thursday, October 3, has been postponed till Thursday, November 7, in Adamstown Community Centre at 9 p.m. All individuals, Clubs, Businesses and Organisations are invited to attend this important meeting with a view to establishing a Development Committee for the Adamstown Community.

It is imperative for Adamstown to establish a Development Committee in order to capitalize on funding available with the overall aim of enhancing and developing amenities within our village. Adamstown Tidy Towns

Adamstown Tidy Towns would like to thank Ms Breen and her TY Students from Coláiste Abbain for their help on planting Daffodil Bulbs under the Community Involvement Initative Scheme. We will sell these potted Daffodils in Cullen's Gala during Daffodil week in March 2020 with all profits going towards cancer research. Check our Facebook page for further updates.

Couch to 5K

Couch to 5K continues every Wednesday night at 7.15 in Oylegate pitch. There is also a walking group at the same time. The annual afternoon of prayer at Ballyvaloo Retreat Centre is on Sunday, October 6, Registration 11.30. Cost per person is €25 which includes refreshments on arrival and an evening meal.

Smart Fitness

Smart Fitness Kettlebell and Circuit Training Classes return to Galbally Hall every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The classes are suitable for total beginners and are a mix of kettlebell, bodyweight, floor and core exercises. Fashion Show

A Fashion Show takes place in the Riverside Park Hotel on Wednesday, October 16, in aid of Bree Community Playground. Enniscorthy based shops 'Glamour' and 'Ottiva' are supplying the fashion, 'Perfection by Mon' the make-up and Liam Sharkey is MC for the night. Tickets at €10 are now on sale in Garry Byrnes, Riverside Park Hotel and from any Committee Member.

Yoga Classes

Yoga Classes will take place in Bree Community Centre with Grace Reddington on Monday nights from 8.15 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. and on Thursday mornings from 10.15 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. Sessions began on Monday, September 23, and continue for six weeks. Please bring your own mat. Cost is €10.

Indoor Athletics

Indoor Athletic Training resumes in Bree Community Centre on this Thursday, October 3, at 7 p.m. for five- to 10-year-olds and from 7.45 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Bree Athletic Club members. Cost is €2 per child to max of €5 per family.

Scoil Mhuire NS Ballyhogue

The school will be holding a clothing collection on Wednesday, October 23. We ask relatives of students attending the school as well as others in the community to collect any clothing or related items they no longer need. Donations of all clothing types, paired shoes, belts, curtains, bed linens, towels and stuffed animals are accepted and should be dropped off at the school before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23.

The school will receive funds for every kg donated. Thank you for your support.

Galbally table quiz

Galbally Sports and Leisure Club table quiz will take place in the Sycamore House, Killurin (Declan's) on Friday, October 25, at 9 p.m. Table of four €25. Cash prizes and raffle on the night.

Basic Computer Course

Bree Parish Journal

Preparations are under way for this year's edition of Bree Parish Journal. All clubs and organisations in the parish are asked to have a report of their activities over the past two years ready by the end of Oct. The committee is also looking for photographs particularly of groups of people from times past as well as items suitable for publication pertaining to places or people of the area including notable family celebrations.

Walking track

Lights will be on at the Walking track at the GAA grounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the facility is available to all in the community so come along and stay fit over the winter months. The couch to 5k group meet every Weds evening.

Commemorative March

A commemorative march took place on Sunday, September 22, from the Gap Cross to O'Briens Inn. Wreaths were laid at the stone at the Gap Cross, Crossamye and also at both graveyards to honour those that died in 1798 and also those who have passed away since the bi-centenary commemoration celebrations in 1998. Thanks to all those who participated and contributed to the day especially given the incessant rain that fell for the duration of the march. Special thanks to O'Briens Inn for their hospitality on the day in providing refreshments to the participants afterwards. I think it can be agreed that it was a very memorable day for everyone.

Social dancing

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, October 13. Music on the night is by Adrian Ryan. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission €8. Come along and enjoy a great night of music, and dancing.


ICA News

The ICA will hold its next meeting on Wednesday the second. Oct. in Oylegate Community Centre at 7.30 p.m. Last month, a most informative and interesting demonstration on 'Gardening and Pruning' was presented by Ciaran Fitzger-ald, Head Gardner in Johnstown Castle.

Craft Fair 2019

The annual Oylegate-Glenbrien craft fair will be held in Oylegate Community Centre on Sunday, November 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables €20 each. Exhibitors from Oylegate and Glenbrien parish will be given first preference. A certain number of tables will be assigned for TY students Mini-Companies and again first pref-erence will be given to students from Oylegate and Glenbrien. Bookings will be taken from mid-October.

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the local Tidy Towns, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Clothes Collection

The parents' association is organising a clothes collection to raise funds for the school on October 1 Any unwanted clothes, shoes, bed linen, towels, etc. can be donated. Bags can be dropped off at the school on Sunday, September 29, before and after Mass (10: 40 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11.30 to 12 noon), on Monday, September 30, before and after school (8.40 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2.40 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and Tuesday, October 1 (8.40 a.m. to 9 a.m.).
