Adamstown - Cards: The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, February 15, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering this Friday the 15th will be: Mary Jackman, Eleanor Power and Ann Jackman. Catering on Friday, February 22: Ann Foley, Margo O'Reilly and Dympna Bradley; catering on Friday, March 1, will be Brigid Boland, Edel English and Fiona Power. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Adamstown lotto

The next draw in the Adamstown lotto takes place this Friday, February 15, in the community centre for a jackpot of Euro 14,900. Keep on buying the tickets, it will have to be won sometime.

Coffee Break and Bingo

Get Creative

On Tuesday, February 12, the adult reading group meets in New Ross Library at 7 p.m., the same time New Ross Creative writing group meets. The reading group meets on the second Tuesday of every month to discuss popular and literary fiction. This month's book for discussion is 'I am, I am, I am' by Maggie O'Farrell. New Ross Library Creative writing group meets once a month and is guided by published author Tina Callaghan. New members are always welcome. For more information phone 051 421877.


Active Retirement

The February meeting of Bree ARA will be held on February 20 in Bree Community Centre from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be the usual bingo, social and refreshments. Everyone welcome. Enquiries to 086 0747823.

Slaney Valley Adventure Race

This year's Slaney Valley Adventure Race will take place next Saturday, February 16. Check-in is from 9 a.m. at Bree Community Centre with the first wave of competitors starting at 10 a.m. The race comprises of a 30km Cycle, a 1km Kayak and a 6.5km Forest Run.

St Patrick's Weekend Run/Walk

Galbally Sports and Leisure Club will host a 10k run and 5k walk on bank holiday Monday, March 18. The event will begin at 11 a.m., with registration taking place from 10 a.m. onwards. Entry fee is €5 for the 5k walk and €10 for the 10k run. Both events are open to all ages and abilities. The 10k race will be chip timed and there will be prizes for the first man and woman home.

Refreshments will be served to all participants in the hall afterwards. Everyone is invited to come along and get involved in what promises to be a great community event.

Water Safety AGM

Wexford Water Safety's AGM will take place on March 2 at 7.30 p.m. in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford.

Bree AC Awards Night took place last Thursday night. Award winners were Darra Casey 'Athlete of the Year'; Abbie Doyle 'Peter Byrne Memorial Trophy'; Jayden Kenny 'Pat O'Leary Distance Trophy': Olivia Howe 'Tony Greene Merit Award'; Lea Bolger 'Paul Kehoe Merit Award'; Katie Doyle 'John Godkin under-13 Award' and Sophie Codd 'Bree ICA Parish Athlete Award'.

Playground Meeting

An additional meeting with a view to setting up a committee to take over the monitoring of Bree Community Playground will be held in Bree Community Centre on Monday, February 25, at 7 p.m. Phase two of this project will begin shortly.

Swimming club

Wexford Swimming Club is holding an open assessment evening on Friday, February 22, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wexford Swimming Pool for seven- to 10-year-old children interested in bringing their swimming to the next level. Kids should be able to swim one length without stopping and preferably have completed their swim lessons. Committee members and club swimmers will be available to answer any questions about our club while our coaches will assess the kids. Please email to book a place at the assessment. Glynn NS

Confirmation: We wish our sixth class pupils well as they begin the 'You Shall Be My Witnesses' Programme in preparation for confirmation. Thanks to the parents and volunteers who will facilitate the programme.

Handball: Our handball team did very well in the Rackard League recently. Special congratulations to Lauryn and Ciara, who reached the Leinster final.

Credit Union Quiz: Our quiz teams acquitted themselves very well in the Credit Union Quiz. Our under-11 teams finished second and third.

Split-the-pot: The winner of this week's split-the-pot is Mag Reville, who won €174.

The next split-the-pot draw will be on Sunday, February 17, at 1 p.m. in the parish hall after the Valentine's Day Tea Party.

Tea Party Fundraiser: The tea party will be held in the parish hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds in aid of the school development fund.

Aldi rugby promotionAs part of our fundraising the school has registered for the Aldi Rugby promotion. There is a chance of winning €50,000 towards sorts facilities. If you spend €30 or more you will get a sticker. Please send the sticker into the school and we may be in with a chance to win €50,000.

Well done to our under-17 footballers who defeated Sarsfields in the Jim Byrne Cup recently 7-8 to 5-5.

Code of behaviour course 

Glynn-Barntown will be running Code of Behaviour courses in the next few weeks - dates to be confirmed. Remember it is compulsory to complete this course in order to be involved in any capacity with underage teams. NB - if you have attended this course more than five years ago you must complete a refresher course as new guidelines are now in place. Senior GAA

DEVELOPMENT DRAW - Our hugely successful fundraiser will draw to its conclusion shortly. Anyone still wishing to support the club by purchasing a ticket can do so by contacting John at 087 2807679 or any club coach or committee member. The draw will take place on Saturday, February 16, at 9 p.m. in the clubhouse. All are welcome to attend and enjoy music and refreshments on the night. We thank all of the fantastic club people who committed themselves so wholeheartedly to the endeavour of continuing to develop our super facilities while keeping our debts to a minimum.

Camross Drama Group

Following the last meeting, several One-act plays were read, auditioned for and cast - rehearsals have already begun and show dates and venues are being planned. More details soon.

Camross ICA

Our last meeting was held on Monday, January 4, in Camross Hall. Mary Kelly thanked the ladies for sowing the daffodils in the garden and the ladies who recently visited Knockeen Nursing Home to entertain the residents with a few songs and recitations. The winner of the best '6 chocolate chip cookies' was Dympna Kelly.

We then had a visit from yoga and pilates instructor Julie, who runs a few classes in the TAG Center (Taghmon). She told us about the differences between the two classes and gave us a great demonstration of a few yoga and pilates moves. Kay Doyle and Margaret O'Gorman served some truly delicious tea and homemade scones.

Caroreigh NS

All students in St Garvan's NS, Caroreigh, recently attended the pantomime in Coláiste Abbain Adamstown. They thoroughly enjoyed the live performance and in particular highlights was the large number of past pupils taking part in the production.

Last Wednesday, January 30, was the feast day of St Aidan, the patron of diocese of Ferns. To mark this, pupils attended Mass where they provided music, did readings, prayers and presented gifts.
