Adamstown - Cards: The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, March 1, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday, March 1, will be Brigid Boland, Edel English and Fiona Power. Catering on Friday, March 8, will be: Mary Delaney, Sheelagh Delaney, Catherine O'Rourke and Elizabeth Greene. Catering on Friday, March 15, will be Catherine Walsh, Eileen J Walsh, Eileen N Walsh. Catering on Friday, March 22, will be Callie Doyle, Angela Furlong and Louise Furlong. Proceeds going to parish funds.

GAA News

The Intermediate A football team will play Cloughbawn in the first round of the All Co. Football League in Adamstown on March 9 at 3 p.m. The Junior A football team have got a bye in the first and second round of the league.

The next draw in the Adamstown lotto takes place this Friday, March 1, in the community centre for a jackpot of €15,100.

To Tom, Nick and John Walsh and families on the unexpected death of John Harrington, whose funeral Mass took place in Bride Street Church, Wexford on Tuesday last. May he rest in peace.

To Sineád O'Gorman, Michael Byrne and all the family, also to Gerry McGabhainn and family on the sudden death of Mary Batson (née Lambert) on February 14 Her funeral Mass took place in Glasnevin, Dublin on Monday last with burial in Glasnevin Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

To Rosaline and David Power, Raheenduff on the death of Rosaline's mother, Mrs Pauline Donnelly, Roscommon. Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday last in Roscommon. May she rest in peace.

To Ann Marie Heffernan on the death of her uncle John Heffernan in Cork. May he rest in peace.

Coffee/Bingo Morning

We are holding a Coffee/Tea, Toast and Novel Bingo morning in Adamstown Community Centre on Tuesday, March 5, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Why not join us for the chat and have some fun, meet old and new acquaintances. All older members of the community are welcome.

Adamstown ICA News

The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, February 13, in Adamstown Community Centre. The president Helen Furlong welcomed the members and reminded us that art classes would be back on track next Wednesday the 20th. The Walking group continues to meet at 8 p.m. each Wednesday at the community centre if on their walk around the track.

The competition for best choc chip cookies ended in a tie between three members Helen Furlong, Sheelagh Delaney and Jill Bridgeman. The names were put into a box and Sheelagh's name was drawn out. She will represent the guild at the Federation Competition on Monday the 25th. The hostesses Eleanor Power and Eileen Thorpe served a lovely tea and everyone got to sample the delicious choc chip cookies submitted for the competition.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 13, and guest speaker Siobhán Freaney will give a talk on breast cancer. Mary Lawlor won the draw and the meeting concluded with a fun game of bingo where everyone won scratch cards. All the guild members would like to send good wishes to Breda Whelan - Kilmore, the Federation Tour Co-ordinator for a speedy recovery.

Active Retirement

Adamstown Active Retirement is having a meal in the Horse and Hound Hotel on Thursday, March 7, at 1.30 p.m.

Cemetery Committee

Adamstown Cemetery Committee invites applications from tenders for the laying of a new path from the cemetery entrance in the churchyard to the cemetery toilets. All applications to be submitted to the Hon secretary Liam Whelan in Kellystown no later than March 15.

Coiste na nÓg Awards Night

A huge number of local children attended the clubs Coiste na nÓg awards night at Raheen Hall last Friday evening. Each training group from under-six to under-13 were awarded with their training participation certificates by local county players James Breen and Michael Furlong which was a great thrill and the club would like to sincerely thank both men for giving of their time.

Our under-13s had a very successful year reaching two finals and winning the football shield and they were presented with their medals and a team photograph as a memento of their success.

Huge thanks to all the parents who took their kids along and we thank you all sincerely for your continued support. Thanks are also due to all the ladies whom had a magnificent array of finger food and confectionery prepared.

It was also great to see Games Development Officer James Flynn in attendance on the night showing his commitment and support for our local young players.

The Kilkenny's live at Adamstown

Famed Irish folk and ballad group the Kilkenny's play live at Adamstown Ballroom on Saturday, March 9, Full bar on the night and tickets are Euro 20 available from all committee members and by contacting 087 1852949. Over-18s only 

St Patrick's Weekend Run/Walk

Galbally Sports and Leisure Club will host a 10k run and 5k walk on bank holiday Monday, March 18. The event will begin at 11 a.m., with registration taking place from 10 a.m. onwards. Entry fee is €5 for the 5k walk and €10 for the 10k run. Both events are open to all ages and abilities. The 10k race will be chip timed and there will be prizes for the first man and woman home. Refreshments will be served to all participants in the hall afterwards. Everyone is invited to come along and get involved in what promises to be a great community event.

Clonard Guiding Unit

The Clonard girl guides will be holding their annual enrolment and prize giving on Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in Clonard Community Centre.

Everyone is welcome to come along and support the girls. Refreshments afterwards.

The girls will also be proudly marching in the parade again this year.

Na Fianna Clonard

Registration night will take place on Friday, March 1, in Clonard Community Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All Welcome, there will be a puppet show, disco, guest speakers and refreshments served for parents. Entry €2. Membership fees are €50 per family (two adults, three children) or €20 per player.

We are hosting at quiz night on Thursday, March 14, at 8.30 p.m. in Wexford Golf Club. It's €40 per team of four, so get your teams together and come along to raise funds for the club. Our annual Club Draw took place on February 15. The winners are: Brendan Benson, Angela Doran, Junior Hayes, Jade Collier and Caitlin Quigley Hogan. Congratulations to all our winners. Thank you to everybody who supported us by buying tickets.

Adult training continues every Wednesday night from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in North End Astro. Thank you to Gary Laffan for taking last week's training session. Underage boys and girls training continue every Tuesday evening in St Peter's College from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. New members welcome.

Over-60s Social

Thank you to all who helped out at the Clonard Parish Over-60s Social. A great night was had by all.

Samaraitans collection Thanks

The East Coast Samaritans want to thank you, the parishioners of the Church of the Annunciation, Clonard, for your very generous support of our collection last weekend (16th/17th). A total of €298.11 was raised. It is hugely appreciated and it will help to keep our phone lines open.


Community Games

Community Games Art and Handwriting competitions both take place in Glynn Hall on Saturday, March 9.

The art competition starts at midday and is for the following age groups: under-eight, under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16.

The Handwriting event commences at 2 p.m. and is for ages under-10 and under-12. Plenty of time to get in more practice. Good luck to all.

Registration for Community Games Chess, Draughts, Gymnastics, Swimming, Talent and table quiz also takes place on Saturday, March 9, in Glynn Hall commencing at 11.30 a.m. Be sure to get your name.

Barntown bingo bonanza

The Barntown Community Children's Playground Fund Committee are looking forward to welcoming you all to our Bingo Night on Friday, March 1, starting at 8.30 p.m. in Mary Jo's.

We have some lovely spot prizes up for grabs and are all really looking forward at getting everyone together to help raise funds for our exciting new Play Park. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to all who supported our Valentine's Day Tea Party. A special thanks to the fundraising committee who organised it and the pupils in the school who decorated the hall, sent invitations and served on the day. We raised €1,246.

Coiste na nÓg

Congratulations to our Junior A Hurling team who were presented with their medals last weekend - captain JJ Doyle addressed the crowd on the night thanking Manager Paul Laffan and selectors Tom Dempsey and John Barron and the dedicated panel. Congratulations again lads.

GAA development draw results

On Saturday, February 16, our hugely successful Development Draw came to an end with our long time sponsor John Doyle of the Cleary Doyle group drawing out the 10 winning tickets to a packed crowd in the clubhouse. We were delighted to also have Tony Dempsey, mayor of Wexford and Co GAA Board chairman Derek Kent present. MC Tom Dempsey welcomed the crowd along with club chairman John Cooney.

We'd like to thank the three main groups who were integral to the success of the endeavour-the Steering committee John Cooney, Lorcan Doyle, Danny O'Brien, Angela Finn, Suzanne Goff and Loraine O'Brien, the group of incredibly hard working coordinators who kept the momentum going with their sellers and the sellers themselves who went out in all sorts of weathers week after week driving the length and breadth of the county and beyond.

GAA club lotto

The lotto draw which took place on Wednesday, February 20, Numbers drawn were 19, 25, 29 and 32. There was no jackpot winner and on this occasion, nor were there any match-three winners.
