Around the districts: Adamstown, Clonard, Glynn-Barntown

Adamstown: Jubilee Celebration - On Sunday, November 10, 1844, recently built St Abban's Church was dedicated by Fr Chapman PP, New Ross, who was deputising for Bishop James Keating.

The famous temperance campaigner Fr Theobald Matthew preached and imparted the Temperance Pledge to 2,000 people. We will recall this historical occasion on Saturday, November 16, at 7.30 p.m. Mass. Refreshments will be available afterwards in Coláiste Abbáin. We would appreciate donations of buns/cakes, confectionery for this occasion. We hope you will be able to join us.


The weekly '30' Card game continues in the community centre this Friday, November 15, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday the 15th will be Catherine Moore, Kathleen O'Connor, Nancy Walsh and Tina Whelan. Catering on Friday the 22nd will be Ann Marie Mackey, Ann Redmond and Catherine Furlong. Catering on Friday the 29th will be Ellie Walsh and Stella Delaney. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Adamtown lotto

The next draw in the Adamstown lotto takes place this Friday the 15th in the community centre for a jackpot of €7,800. The jackpot is getting bigger and it's worth a €2 ticket, it could be you next time.

Adamstown ICA News

Adamstown ICA Guild are hosting the senior citizen's Christmas party in the Horse and Hound on Sunday, December 8, at 6 p.m. Invitations will be distributed shortly. The monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, November 13, in the community centre at 8 p.m.

The Nov competition is for an Autumnal arrangement in a jam jar using autumnal foliage only. Maximum height to include jam jar 40cm and max with 30cm. The winner will represent the guild at the Federation meeting on November 25 in the Riverbank Hotel.

The guild will have a stall at the Coláiste Abbáin Craft Fair in the college on Thursday, December 12; you might find something nice for that last minute Christmas present. We are always looking for new members, for more information contact Helen at 086 3454036.

Parents' association Clothes Recycling collection on Thursday, November 14, please leave your bags before 9.30 a.m. in hall opposite the school. Cake sale will take place on Thursday, November 21, in the school. Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 11. Split-the-pot winner on Wednesday, November 6, was John McCabe who got €86, sold in Brad Óg's. School seller winner - Kate Whelan. Next draw is on Wednesday, November 20.

Adamstown NS Parents Assoication November Memorial Tree Fundraiser: Remember your loved ones in a special way this November. 'Remembrance Tree' memorial wooden discs personalised with your loved ones names - €4 each. Wooden discs can be ordered from Yvonne English at 087 9578746; Michelle Payne at 086 8516291 or order from any of the parents' association members. They will also be available to purchase after Mass during the month of November. The personalised wooden discs will be placed on the 'Remembrance Tree' in St Abban's Church during November, the month of the Holy Souls. All will be especially remembered in the November Masses in St Abban's Church from Monday, November 18, to Saturday, November 23. They will then be returned to the family as a memento. All proceeds will go to the Adamstown National School's fundraiser for an upgrade to the school playground.

Coláiste Abbáin News

Congratulations to Ms Gorman and the TY class, on another fantastic publication of our school newspaper, the Phoenix Times. Thanks to Cullen's for sponsoring this issue. Enable Ireland No Mobile Phone Fundraiser: This was a wonderful experience for students - a day without a phone. A total of €600 was raised will be used to buy a device. Our Agri Day will provide great PR for our school on November 22. Well done to the students who raised €404. 40 in the CSPE dress up/colours day on October 25 all money will go towards purchasing scarves, hats and tooth brushes for the homeless. Parents' association Christmas Concert takes place on Friday, December 6. Our Craft Fair is on Thursday, December 12. If you have unwanted gifts that you would like to donate to our Christmas/Lourdes/Pantomime raffles they would be greatly appreciated.

Woodview Drive News

Wexford County Council recently invited many Local Authority Estates to a residents' association day. A number of Woodview Drive residents attended the event, were they enjoyed talks from Hazel Percival on the County's Library also Annette Dupuy PNN Support Officer and many more. At the end of the event, Estate Awards were announced, and Woodview Drive won Wexford's Best Kept Local Authority Estate in the New Ross District. Well done to all involved. 'Your work, your time made this possible'.

The November Masses in St Abban's Church will take place as follows: Monday, November 18 - Tomgarrow, Misterin, Rathkyle, Adamstown, Coolnagaree. Tuesday, November 19 - Oldcourt, Brocurra, Doononey, Woodview Drive. Wednesday, November 20 - Newtown, The Leap, Knockreigh, Coonogue Thursday, November 21 - Kellystown, Chapel, Raheenduff the Barracks. Friday, November 22 - Glenour, Ballyvergin, Rathsilla, Fairfields. Saturday, November 23 - For all who died during the year. Mass in St Abban's Oratory will be celebrated at 7.30 p.m. each evening. All present will receive a candle which will be left lighting before the Blessed Sacrament after Mass. Please return your envelopes as soon as possible, an offering is optional. You are welcome to attend every night or any other night.

Adamstown GAA are holding a table quiz in Foley Bar Newbawn on Friday, November 15, at 8.30 p.m. Raffle on the night. Please come along and support. Mass for the deceased members of the club will take place on Saturday, November 16, at 7 p.m. in Adamstown Church.

Church notes

Service of Remembrance: Wexford General Hospital is holding their service of remembrance at Clonard Church, Wexford on Friday, November 15, at 7.30 p.m. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards. The service is organised on an annual basis by the Standing Committee for End of Life Care at Wexford General Hospital.

November Pious List: During the month of November, we remember and pray at all Masses in the parish for those who have died and are listed on our November (Pious) Lists of the Dead. We invite your family members to gather together to fill in the Pious List for your deceased loved ones. The ones you remember may be your own family members, or friends of your family, or others you know who may have no one to pray for them. Envelopes and Pious Lists are available either in the Main Church or the Porch outside the Day Chapel, they are also available in your weekly envelope box. Please return them to the sacristy or parish office as soon as possible. Pious Lists will be placed in remembrance by the Altar at all Masses. May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace, amen.

Lost Property: Lost property which has been found in the church, will be donated to charity in the coming week. If you think you have an item that may be in the lost property box, please contact the Sacristan as soon as possible.

Barntown Community Centre

An open invitation is extended to the more senior members of our community, for a free coffee morning and Social Gathering. Please come along to share ideas and have a chat about things you might like to see happening in our Community Centre. The date is Tuesday, November 19, and the time is 10.30 a.m. Please join us in Barntown Community Centre - we would love to hear your thoughts.

Down Syndrome Wexford will hold their annual church gate collection after all Masses on the weekend of November 16 and 17, in Glynn and Barntown Churches. Thank you for your support.

Credit Union Art: Congratulations to Kyle in fifth class who won a prize in the Credit Union Art Competition.

Talbot Hotel Art: Congratulations to Síofra (sixth class) who was the overall winner of her category in the Talbot Hotel Art Competition and to Seoige (first class), Aoife (sixth class), Catherine (sixth class) and Sophie (fifth class) who were finalists. Well done to past pupil Ella, who was the overall winner in her category.

Split-the-pot: Congratulations to Ger Hanley and Julie Butler winners of €220 in the latest split-the-pot.

Parents' association AGM: This year the AGM of the parents' association will take place on Monday the 18th at 8 p.m.

Operation Hope: We are participating in Operation Hope again this year. If you wish to send in a shoe box please do so by Friday, November 15.

Fundraising: We welcomed TD Paul Kehoe to our school last Friday, November 8, to ask for his support in our continuing fundraising efforts.

Bag Packing: Thanks to the parents who have volunteered for 'bag packing' in Dunnes Stores. We raised €1,523. Many thanks to Dunnes Stores for hosting us.

On the Pitch: Well done to our Rising Stars girls' football team who won their quarter final.

Galbally Community Centre will host a Christmas Craft Fair, on Sunday, November 24, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Lots of local crafters will be in attendance with almost 20 tables already booked in with numerous gift ideas from a variety of vendors.
