St Fintan's

The St Fintan's hurling team had a home fixture versus Cloughbawn in the EEW ACHL Div.5 on Sunday last and in what was always an evenly contested game the result of which was always in doubt up to the final 10 minutes. A point seperated the sides at the break 1-09 to 1-08 with Cloughbawn to the fore. The second half was also well contested but Cloughbawn always looked the likely winners and this proved to be the case on a scoreline of 3-16 to 2-13.

Killinick Village scrubs up well

The Killinick Project since March has been in the process of a big village tidy-up and green refreshment program that will continue throughout the summer months.

The clean-ups take place on Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The committee are working hard to rejuvenate the area and are very grateful for the help of local businesses, volunteers and other personal donations.

A continued thanks to Wexford County Council's environmental department for the utensils and tools required to help keep our village clean. We, as a community, have gained local grant aid to help with, cutting back areas, re-painting village walls, putting in new potted trees and planting out additional areas. Other projects under way will continue throughout the year to enhance and further benefit the long term up-keep of our village Killinick.

All are welcome to our Saturday a.m. workouts. We would like to thank our local councillor Frank Staples for his ongoing support, Rich Kelly of R & W Kelly., for completing larger scale works and scrub digs, Terrance Crosbie of Crosbie Bros., for donating paint for this project, Jim Underwood and Norma for additional tree donations grassing and fencing.

Chairman James Molloy comments, 'Our approach is that of inclusion and partnership, working with volunteers and local Business people, councillors and Wexford County Council, all of this input is crucial to the development and continued rejuvenation of our village, the Townsland of Killinick and surrounding areas'.

Ciara Murphy has been busy again with the under-12 County team who had a blitz in Cork. Wexford had two teams playing five games each with Ciara's team winning all their games and not conceding any goals. Well done Ciara and all the girls.

St Fintan's Ladies

Our under-16 team played the second round of the championship away to Ballyhogue, the home team started strong and where soon ahead, but our girls rallied and fought their way back, the girls were five points down at the start of the second half but got to within two showing great grit and determination unfortunately it wasn't to be their night final score, St Fintan's 2-7, Ballyhogue 4-9. Congratulations to Ellen Berry, who was a member of the victorious Wexford minor team that won the Leinster ladies' football minor C championship defeating Louth on a scoreline of 6-09 to 5-09. Well done to Leah Ormonde whos a member of the Wexford under-16 team that played in the Leinster final on Sunday last.

Pitch Marking

In the absence of a scheme worker on the St Fintan's club grounds in Ballymore the club is seeking two or three people who might be able to help with line marking the pitch. The pitch markings are there and it is a case of double rolling the markings every nine - 10 days. Anyone, who might be able to help out is requested to contact Sharon Pettit at 086 1787498. We are hopeful of securing a new scheme worker for the club in the near future and this will only be a temporary arrangement.

Coiste na nÓg

The under-15 football team of OLI/St Fintan's scored a comfortable victory over Horeswood in the Gorey Guardian Roinn one South Championship during the recent past while the under-13 football team suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Clongeen in the New Ross Standard Division 5 13-a-side championship. The under-13 were in action again during the past week in an away fixture versus Marshalstown-Castledockrell and the under-15 hurling team had a home fixture versus Rathgarogue/Cushionstown in the Enniscorthy Guardian Roinn one South Championship.
