Around the districts: Ballymore-Mayglass, Kilmore, Our Lady's Island, Rathangan-Cleariestown

Ballymore-Mayglass: Easter Walk/Egg Hunt - Mark it in the diary: Easter Sunday morning there will be a fundraising fun walk/run in St Fintan's Clubgrounds at 11am followed by a fun Easter Egg Hunt for all the children. More details to follow closer to the date.

Cllr Frank Staples

Local councillor Frank Staples will hold a Local Election Information Night next Monday night, March 25 in Ballycogley Community Hall at 7.30 p.m. This night will give details of Franks election campaign and his main priorities and focal points in the run up to local elections on May 24.

Anyone, who would like to help Frank in any way over the coming weeks to secure a second term as local councillor (there will be plenty of little jobs,) is invited to attend aswell as anyone from the local area who simply wishes to chat to Frank or learn more about him and his priorities as a local representative. Please spread the word and again any support and help over the coming weeks would be very much appreciated. Cups of tea or coffee and biscuits galore.

Model County Tickets

CLG Loch Garman Club and county draw 2019 tickets, better known as Model County tickets, are now available to buy through St Fintan's GAA Club. Draw dates are May 1, May 29 and June 26. Each months draw will have a top prize of a new car to the value of €16,000 with another 49 prizes each month ranging from Pettitt's SuperValu voucher of €1,500 and €750, Top Oil Voucher, Glen Fuel voucher, hotel vouchers, Monart Spa voucher and various cash prizes.

Tickets are €50 for the three draws which can be paid in one payment or three monthly payments of €20, €20 and €10. Ticket sellers will be out and about in the coming weeks and your support as ever is very much appreciated. These tickets provide a vital annual income for your local GAA Club and this year more than ever with so much significant club developments under way.

Scouts

Congratulations to Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures, who were invested last weekend. Special mention to youth members of Scouts and Ventures, who ran a fantastic Family Treasure Hunt around Kilmore Quay, despite the showers. All sections are taking part in the St Patrick's Day parade in Wexford on Sunday, March 17. Kindling for sale at the Social Centre €2 per bag, in aid of Group Funds.

Women's Shed

The Shed ladies celebrated International Women's Day by unveiling a Wall Hanging depicting the Saltee Islands and surroundings last Friday night. It was part of a Community Project, funded by Waterford Wexford Educational Training Board, with 11 ladies taking part in the weekly sewing sessions facilitated by Mary Walsh. The colourful piece is on display in the Supper Room of the Social Centre and was officially launched by Jim Moore, chairman of WWETB. It was followed by a social evening for Shed members and WWETB guests.

The Killinick Project

The Killinick Project in association with Kiely's Centra are distributing a short community survey. We feel it is important moving forward to get the views and input from our local community.

The survey will be available in all the local businesses in Killinick and will also be distributed to your home locally via your letter box. All the completed survey forms are required to be returned to a designated Survey Box in Kielys Centra before April 1. The prospect of several grant receipts and other funding through Wexford County Council and other agencies in association with our local councillor's makes it is imperative that we know what is required by our community in order to grow, improve and enhance the village. We would like to thank Kiely's Centra and look forward to receiving your suggestions and views.

Ballycogley Players

Rehearsals for our full length production 'Same Old Moon' are coming along very well and director Breda Hayes is very happy with how things are progressing. This play is the life of Brenda Barnes and her story as a young nine-year-old girl right through to her forties. As we accompany her through her life we witness many challenges she faces including having a short - tempered mother and a father who is his worst enemy.

Performance dates are as follows: Sunday, April 7, St Mary's Hall, Fethard-on-Sea, Friday, April 12, Our Lady's Island Community Centre, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18, to April 20 National Opera House, Wexford. Coffee morning

A coffee morning will be held in the Ballycogley Hall on Sunday, March 24, at 11 a.m. Come along for a chat and a cuppa. We will also hold a raffle. Hope to see you there.

Mayglass Aldi Play Rugby update

With it taking 300 tickets per entry the student council of Mayglass school is very thankful to those that have supported todate with two posters sent to the competition at this time. The Crossfin Gaels under-17 football team with players from Our Lady's Island, St Fintan's and Crossabeg-Ballymurn playing in the under-17 Premier championship scored a well deserved victory in the championship during the recent past defeating Na Laochra on a scoreline of 3-05 to 1-05.

Cheltenham

Mayglass man now living in Kildare Jamie Codd rode his ninth winner of his career at Cheltenham festivals when he powered home Le Breuil in the National Hunt Challenge cup Novice Chase on the first day and Envoi Allen in the champion bumper of this year's festival.

Tús Worker

The St Fintan's GAA Club contract with its Tús worker expires on March 22 and the club will be seeking a replacement. The position is advertised and anyone interested must be on the live register for over a year and should you need further information please contact the clubs secretary Sharon Pettit at 086 1787498.

NATIONAL MASTERS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - Congratulations to Jackie Carthy, who comfortably won yet another national title today in Athlone this afternoon at the Irish Life Health National Indoor Masters Championships.

Fresh from winning the Leinster title just a week ago over 1500m, Jackie won the O45 3000m in a time of 10: 30: 68, more than a minute ahead of her nearest challenger. What an absolutely sensational result, from a sensational runner. Jackie will now compete in the World Masters Indoors in two weeks time in Torun, Poland, where she will compete in the 8k Cross County and 1500m. Also congratulations to Jackie's coach Pavel and training partner Niall Sheil (St Killian's AC), who won bronze in his 3000m race.

TRAINING - Senior Training continues at Kilmore GAA Grounds at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Enniscorthy Sports Hub Saturday at 10 a.m. All adult members welcome as well as experienced runners.

Juvenile Training: We train in Kilmore GAA Grounds on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.30 p.m. under-11s train indoors on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Kilmore GAA Centre. We also train on the track in Enniscorthy on Saturday at 10 a.m. S & C with Fiona on Wednesday in Kilmore GAA Centre at 6.30 p.m. for juvenile members. See training programmes for details. Young runners must be seven years old already this year to qualify under Athletics Ireland rules. 50th birthday

Congratulations to Kevin Sheil, Newtown, Kilmore Quay, who celebrated his 50th birthday last week. Kevin, who got the surprise of his life when his family had organised a surprise party which was attended by his family and friends when up to 100 attended and a great night was had by all who attended. Here's to many more Kevin.

Congratulations also to John Devlin, Lannaghbeg, Kilmore who celebrated his 50th birthday last weekend . John celebrated this special occasion with a party at Quigleys last Saturday night when all who attended had a great night.

Grant for IT Centre

Kilmore Scope is very pleased to have received a grant of €2,500 from Wexford County Councils Community Enhancement programme in the Smart villages section. The grant will be used to set up an IT Centre in the AOH hall/Bridgetown Information and Resource Centre, work on which is well advanced. Watch this space for an opening date for the centre.

Spring lunch

Kilmore Active Retirement Association will hold their Spring lunch on Wednesday the 20th at 1 p.m. in Mary Barry's. This annual event will have an added attraction of a fun table quiz immediately after the meal, so a most enjoyable afternoon should be had by all in attendance.

Social evening

Kilmore Scope is holding a social evening on Friday, March 29, at 8 p.m. in the AOH hall by popular request. The evening will have a mix of events with music, singing, storytelling, recitations and such like. Put the date in your diary.

Scope AGM

Kilmore Scope will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, March 27, at 2.15 p.m. in the AOH hall; please note time of meeting which members felt would be more attractive than a night time meeting. We would appreciate a good turnout for this event and would welcome new members to help in the continued success of the Information Centre and the new IT centre.
