Around the Districts: Ballymore-Mayglass, Our Lady's Island, Rathangan-Cleariestown and Rosslare Strand

Ballymore-Mayglass - Jingle Jog: It's that time of year again, our Jingle Jog will take place on Sunday, December 2. Meeting in the hall in Ballycogley at 11.00. Follow Santa down to Leeches cross and back to the hall for some nice hot chocolate, tea or coffee. Raffle after also.

Seniors Christmas party

The Ballymore-Mayglass Seniors Christmas party will be held in the Coast Hotel, Rosslare on.

Sunday, December 2, at 2 p.m. Tickets are being distributed. Please confirm if you are attending by contacting Anne Mullins (053 9135307) or Breda Wright (086 1735474) before Tuesday, November 27, to establish numbers attending.

Christmas Draw

Tickets are being sold in the coming weeks for the parish council Christmas Draw, which takes place on Sunday, December 9, in Ballymore Scout Hall at 10.45. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Ballycogley Players

The fifth annual Leo Carthy weekend took place back in August and we were delighted to be part of it. On Friday, November 9, in Our Lady's Island we were one of the groups presented with a cheque from the proceeds raised over the weekend. We would like to thank the committee for their very kind donation and look forward to being involved next year.

Thank you to the audiences in Carrig-on-Bannow and Our Lady's Island, who supported our One Act Comedies over the last week. Well done to the directors, cast and crew of all three plays for their hard work and entertainment over the last few months. A special word of praise must go to our new members who did a fine job on stage with some of them making their debuts with the Ballycogley Players.

The full length play to be staged next March will be 'Same Old Moon' by Geraldine Aron. Auditions for this production will take place on Monday and Thursday, November 19, and 22, at 8 p.m. in Tomhaggard Social Centre. Bingo

The Farmer's Kitchen host bingo every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. for anyone looking for an evening out.

Lotto

The jackpot now stands at €16,200 and there is also a match-three prize of €200 up for grabs each week and Johnny McManus and Theresa Wright sharedin this prize. The numbers drawn last week were 6, 7, 22 and 24.Many thanks for your continued support.

Cake sale

Our annual cake sale and raffle in aid of the day to day running of our parish here in Ballymore-Mayglass will take place on Saturday, November 24, before and after 7.30 p.m. Mass in Mayglass and on Sunday morning, November 25, at 10 a.m. Mass in Ballymore. Donations of confectionary would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.

St Fintan's AGM

St Fintan's club AGM will take place on Friday, November 30, in the scout hall Ballymore at 8 p.m. Nominations for club officers along with motions for consideration should be emailed to club secretary no later than November 20 Email secretary.stfintans.wexford@gaa.ie.

Notable Achievement

Mayglass man Jamie Codd now living in Monasterevin, Co Kidare reached another milestone on the racing circuit when he rode his 900 winner to become only the second rider to achieve this feat. His career began on the point to point circuit in the 2001/2002 season and really took of in the 2005/2006 se4ason riding 50 winners and has progressed ever since. Jamie became champion jockey in the 2016 season and Derek O'Connor is the only jockey to have ridden more winners. Congratulations, Jamie.

Mayglass NS

A big well done to the girls of Mayglass NS/Broadway NS on bridging over a 20-year gap by winning the Rackard league by defeating Monamolin/Kilmuckridge on a scoreline of 4-04 to 3-02 to which Aoibheann Rankin contributed 2-02. A big well done also to the girls who took part in the recent Strictly Club Dancing fundraiser. St Fintan's ladies' football club will hold its AGM in the scouthall Ballymore on Tuesday, December 4, at 8 p.m.

Bereavements

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Paddy Gorman Ballymore Killinick and Paddy Quirke Ballykillane Drinagh both of whom sadly died during the recent past. May they rest in peace.

Film Festival

'I can't Sleep' written and directed by Laura Way, daughter of Irene and Michael, Ballymore has been selected for the 12th Waterford Film festival, the awards ceremony for which takes place on December 2.

All Blacks AFC

The All Blacks AFC are hosting a race night/disco in Waterford dog track on Saturday, December 1, as part of the 2020 fundraising. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with racing till 10 p.m. and a disco till late. Entrance tickets costing €10 will be on sale shortly. The club will be running buses from Bridgetown, Ballycogley, Killinick and Wexford town. This is a great opportunity to have a club social event while raising some vital funds. Make sure and get your tickets early and lets make it a night to remember. Also be sure to share with family and friends. It has certainly been a busy few weeks for our 2020 vision development plan. Firstly we have upgraded our training pitch lights, installation of our new 3G astroturf pitch has commenced and should be completed in 5/6 weeks and we recently secured €37,500 funding from leader towards our new community playground. We will now proceed to raise the remaining funding with installation of the playground scheduled for spring 2019. Craft Fair

A Christmas Craft Fair will take place on Friday, November 23, in Tacumshane Old School from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Homemade crafts, christmas gifts, art and Photography, christmas wreaths and Logs, tea or coffee and Home baking and much more.

Youth Club AGM

Our Lady's Island Youth Club AGM will take place on Thursday, November 29, at 8 p.m. in the community centre. It is vitally important that one, or both parents attend.

Medjugorje

The annual parish pilgrimage to Medjugorje next year is from May 13 for a week. Cost €560 Aer Lingus flights, Bed Breakfast and evening meal in Hotel. Tansfers and local guide included. Split-the-pot'

Community lotto

There was no winner of last week's jackpot of €16,000. The winning numbers were 6, 7, 22 and 24. There were four match-three winners who received €50 each. The winners were Paul Maher, Johnny McManus, Theresa Wright, Noeleen Byrne. The next lotto draw will be held on Tuesday, November 20, and the jackpot now stands at €16,200.

Christmas gift

The St Anne's GAA Club's history 'OCTOBER 2000' is still on sale and would make a lovely Christmas gift for people in the parish and beyond. It would be a lovely idea to send one to relatives and friends abroad for Christmas.

Its author, Jim Berry, will be signing copies of the book in the clubhouse in Rathangan on Thursday nights November 22 and 29 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is also available at Geelan's, Waddingtown, Odlum's, Baldwinstown, Sinnott's, Duncormick, Brady's, Kilmore Quay Wallace's, Wellingtonbridge, McDonnell's, Bridgetown and all bookshops in Wexford town, New Ross, Enniscorthy and Gorey. All profit from the book will go to St Anne's GAA Club.

Christmas Tree Lights

The Christmas Tree Lights will be switched on in Duncormick on Saturday, December 1, at 8 p.m. There will be Carols, music and light refreshments and Santa will drop by.

Split-the-pot

Rosslare Strand

Public Meeting

The Rosslare Development Association is hosting a public meeting at 7.30 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Rosslare Community Centre. Gerry Forde from Wexford County Council will make a further presentation on the coastal erosion and flood prevention project presently being considered. councillor Ger Carthy will also be in attendance.

This is a great opportunity to voice your opinion as a resident or visitor of Rosslare on this subject or any other subject which may be of concern to you. There will also be discussions on traffic congestion, making safe the bridges and possibly introducing a one-way traffic system.

The Rosslare Development Association look forward to seeing you all there.

Polar Plunge

The annual Rosslare Polar Plunge is back again this year on Saturday, December 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rosslare Strand beach.

Take the challenge and jump, run or tip toe your way in to the icy waters for a worthy cause. By taking the plunge you will be helping raise money and support the athletes of Special Olympics Ireland in the Leinster region. The Polar Plunge is also a great way to re-invigorate your and kick of your Christmas season as we have plenty of festive cheer at our plunge locations.

Christmas Craft Fair

The annual Christmas Craft Fair will be held on Sunday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Scoil Mhuire Rosslare. If you would like a stall to sell your crafts please contact Georgina in the school office at 053 9132501 ASAP Stalls €1.

GAA club news

Our Club lotto was not won on the November 13. Numbers were 2, 15, 22 and 27. Only one match three - Johnny Walsh, who wins €150. Lotto jackpot is €19,700 for November 20. Tickets can be bought from club members, shops, pubs etc.

Our Strictly Club Dancing is taking place on November 24 at 8 p.m. in Coast Hotel Rosslare Strand. Our couples are training very hard chairman Conor Roche and wife Andrea, Chris and Denise Heyns, Philip and Jenny Balfe, Gordon and Penny Kavanagh and Dave Corcoran and Nicola-Jane Mullan. Our Nursery for four to six years girls and boys continues every Saturday at 10 a.m. in the clubhouse till December 1. All children are welcome and it's free?

Our under-14 and under-16 are playing Hurling in the Martin Storey and George O'Connors competitions. They play on a Sunday and both will be playing in the semi-finals on the November 25 so please come along and support.

Our AGM is on Sunday, November 25, at 3 p.m. in our complex in Tagoat. We would like for all parents of underage players, adult players, members and the wider community to attend. St Mary's GAA is the communities club and we need your help in the running of the club. If you could join us to help in any little way it would be of great help.

Camogie club news

Our club AGM is on Sunday, November 25, at midday in the club house in Tagoat. We ask at least one parent from each family try to attend the meeting.

Our winter training will kick off on Sunday the 25th at the clubhouse at 11 a.m. This is open to all girls from under-10 up. It has been a great success for the last few year and has help the girls concentrate on perfecting their skill over the winter months. We encourage all girls to attend as many sessions as possible.
