Coiste na nÓg
The St Fintan's/Our Lady's Island under-13 football team was in action during the recent past when it took on Marshalstown-Castledockrell in the New Ross Standard Division 5 championship. Though soundly beaten these young players showed no little skill and are proud representatives of their clubs.
Ballymore was the venue when St Fintan's adult football team took on Ferns St Aidan's in Division 2 of the All County football league. This was a highly entertaining game with little between the sides at any stage and so it turned out to be when referee James Flood sounded the final whistle with both sides locked together on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-16.
Laura enjoys Bafta Win
Local lady Laura Way had every reason to celebrate when while sitting back watching the Baftas when Eastenders was voted the best continuing drama, a result which she had a major hand in.
Four episodes were submitted and one of them was the special one directed by Laura which was shown last year. Laura directed four episodes of the soap and because of her special skills was asked to direct this special one and this episode is the only one to be nominated for the best single episode in the upcoming British soup awards.
Laura is the daughter of Irene and Michael Way and in her youth she was very much involved in the Wexford theatre workshop which was founded by her parents and she now runs the Gaiety school of acting graduate screen actors programme. Prior to becoming more involved as a writer and director of short films and music videos she had appeared in a great number of television and film productions. Congratulations, Laura.

The third draw will be held on June 26 and the club would like to thank the members of the parish for the warm welcome and support they afforded the S Fintans club ticket sellers. The club will benefit in a big way from your support which will help with the development at the club grounds.
It has been suggested that former members of the now disbanded St Fintan's Golf society should meet up for a social occasion including a game of golf at a venue as chosen by those interested in taking part. Those genuinely interested show contact Paddy McGuire at 087 9680419 on or before June 5.
Congratulations to Trish and Mark Sinnott Mayglass on the birth of their baby boy Cooper in the recent past.
Mayglass school win five-a-side competition
Well done to the girls of Mayglass school who have recently regained their Leinster crown in the Spar five a side A cup competition. Last week our team traveled to Navan MDL grounds accompanied by a great bunch of supporters.
The girls had to face four different teams in the finals, the group winner taking all. First up were the Mid Leinster and Laois champoins, however they were no match for the Mayglass ladies as they opened their day with a 5-0 victory. Next we faced old rivals Stonyford from Kilkenny. Having played this talented team in the Leinster finals last year, it was bound to be a tough game. Having conceded an early goal, Mayglass fought hard and drew level at half time. The girls promptly added a second shortly after the break and saw out a thrilling encounter to take the spoils 2-1. This tough game was the catalyst needed to get the girls into their stride, as they played some of the best football they have played all year in the following two games.
Next up were North Leinster champions St Peter and Paul school where Mayglass ran out 3-0 winners. Our final game was against Dublin champions St Joseph's school, who included some quality players. In a very physical battle the Wexford champions turned up the tempo and ran out comfortable 5-3 winners in the end, with our entire panel playing a vital part in setting up and scoring all five goals.
Having completed a clean sweep of the day's games, Mayglass were crowned Leinster Champions again and will now travel to the Aviva stadium again this year to represent Mayglass Wexford and Leinster against the winners of Munster, Ulster and Connaught in the all-Ireland final. Games will kick off at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29. Our school and parish wishes the team and management the very best of luck and hopefully we can go one better this year and bring the cup home to Ballymore-Mayglass.
All support is greatly appreciated on the day. Updates of games and snaps of the day will be available on the school website mayglasns.weebly.com Good luck all.

Our under-14s played their first championship match of the season away to Bannow. The girls put in a superb performance. The match ended in a draw which was a disappointment to the girls as they were the best team on the day. It won't be long before this team are winning matches.
