Ballymore-Mayglass: Ballycogley Players - The curtain came down on this year's one-act plays last Sunday night in Carrig-on-Bannow.

All three plays were thoroughly enjoyed by audiences at all the venues we travelled to which included St Michael's SVP Hall, Our Lady's Island Community Centre, Ballycogley Hall and Carrig-on-Bannow Hall.

A huge well done to the directors, casts and crews for the fantastic entertainment, be very proud. Ballycogley Players very much appreciate the support of all our raffle prize sponsors, all those who helped out with serving tea and refreshments and as always, special thanks to our loyal supporters.

The focus is now on our full length festival play, 'Dreamland' by Jim Nolan. So far rehearsals have been going very well and as always director Breda Hayes is cracking the whip and making sure her cast of Will Troy, Justine Murphy, Con Doyle, Chris Maddock, Colm Doyle, Seán Carthy and Trish Boyce are kept on their toes. Keep up to date with all our drama news by logging on or liking our Facebook page.

Underage GAA

The under-20 football team of St Fintan's/Our Lady's Island got its season under way when taking on Glynn-Barntown in the first round of the Greenstar premier championship. This game was played in Killurin in extremely wet and windy conditions making it difficult for both sides to get any sort of grip on proceedings. It was the Glynn-Barntown team that adapted the quicker scoring two goals in quick succession making it an uphill battle for our boys and so it proved. Hard as they tried the St Fintan's/Our Lady's Island team could never bridge the gap formed by those killer goals.

The under-15 hurling team suffered defeat to Rathgarogue/Cushionstown in the semi-final of the Enniscorthy Guardian shiel Roinn one. These young lads battled hard only to lose out by the minimum margin 3-07 to 1-12.

Singing Pubs

During the recent past Paul McDonnell and his staff of the Merry Elf, Killinick gathered a very talented group of performers to participate in the Guinness singing pubs competition as part of the Wexford Opera Festival. Active Retirement

Our monthly meeting was held last Tuesday when there was a good turnout. We are travelling to Dublin to visit Dáil Éireann and the Epic Centre on November 20. An excellent night out was had by all who travelled to see the Hits from the Musicals last week, it will certainly be on the agenda for 2020.

Future events in the National Opera House were outlined and it is hoped that some members will attend the events that most suit them.

On Tuesday next, November 12, we have Ms Frances Walsh coming to talk about 'Successful Ageing'. This should be interesting as Frances is employed in Health Promotion and has given many successful courses and talks on this and similar subjects.

Our AGM will be held on January 14 when voting will take place to elect a new committee and membership for the new year will be taken.

Our annual lunch will be held in Kelly's Hotel on February 20, this will cost €15 for members, non-members may also join us but unfortunately will have to pay the full price.

On December 3 some of our members are travelling with Piercestown ARA to Kildare Village and the Whitewater Shopping Centre for a day out shopping.

We hope to have news about more outings in the New Year. In the meantime our coffee mornings continue each Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. in Coast Hotel when everyone is welcome.
