Ballymurn: Golf classic - The Ballymurn Church golf classic in aid of Ballymurn Church Repairs/Upkeep will take place on Friday, August 9.

Tee - off times from 12.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wexford Golf Club. Entry fee per team of four €120. Contact numbers to sign up: Paul 087 2360073, Jim 086 1617047, Brian 087 2453293.

A cabaret and prize giving night will take place in the Anvil pub later that night. Music by Joe Hogan. Adm €5.

Bus service

The local link have a service from Ballymurn to Wexford on Wednesday mornings leaving Ballymurn at 10.05 a.m. and departs Wexford town at 1.30.

Patron

Patron day in Ballymurn is Sunday, August 18. The patron in Kilmallock will be at 2 p.m. with Prayers. The patron in the New Cemetery will begin with Mass at 3 p.m.

GAA Club news

Blackwater

Tidy towns draw

Blackwater Tidy Towns held its annual draw last Sunday, July 28. We want to thank everyone who supported us so generously by donating prizes and purchasing lines. Special thanks to Ken Flynn Artist, who did a fabulous painting call Aspects of Blackwater. It was a hit with everone.

GAA Notes

Fixtures for the week: Wednesday Junior B Hurling Championship v St Anne's at 7.30 p.m. in Blackwater. Thursday under-15 football v St Pat's. Saturday Intermediate Hurling Championship v Askamore at 2 p.m. in Monamolin. Monday the 12th Minor Hurling Championship v Rapparees in Bellfield at 7.30 p.m.

The minor hurlers enjoyed an excellent 7-19 to 1-10 win against Askamore in the championship moving them second to the table.

This week 25 years ago the junior a hurlers were down to play the Harriers in the district junior a semi-final.

Bree-Galbally

Bree Patron

Bree Patron will be on Sunday, August 18, commencing in Clonmore at 1.30 p.m., Bree New Cemetery 2 p.m., Bree Old Cemetery 2.30 p.m. and concluding with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the church.

Bree Barndance

Bree Barndance, in association with Bree Development Group, takes place on Saturday, August 24, in Byrne's of Bree Grainstore with 'The Kilkennys' as feature band, preceded by local talent Colleen Coughlan, and followed by DJ till late. Tickets at €20 each are available on 'Eventbrite Bree Barndance 2019' and in Byrne's of Bree. Taxi's will be available all night long. Celtic Roots 'Full Irish'

A Full Irish show, in association with Celtic Roots, continues in Bree Hall on Tuesdays nights for the month of August. Tea and scones are served at 8.30 p.m. and the night's entertainment begins at 9 p.m. with music, song, dance and storytelling. Admission is €10 for adults with concessions for children and groups. Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sons, relations and friends of Peter Doyle, Wilton Gardens, who died last Wednesday. His Funeral Mass was held in Bree on Friday.

Bingo In Mernaghs

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the local Tidy Towns, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communities of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages.

The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An information booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.

Mike Denver in Concert

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA will present the ever-popular Mike Denver in concert at the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey on Thursday, August 22. Doors will open at 7.30 p.m. and the concert will commence at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are priced at €20 and are available from players and committee and at the door on the night. This promises to be a superb event, not to be missed.

Underage GAA

Our under-13 hurlers recorded a three goals 15 points to one goal four points victory over Askamore in their last group match. The hurling quarter-finals (for this age-group) have been fixed provisionally for Tuesday, August 20, with the football quarter-finals due to be played on Tuesday, August 13. Venues and times to be confirmed.

Our under-17 hurlers lost to Na Laochra (Bunclody and Ballygarrett combined) while our under-15 hurlers had a good win over Askamore and look forward to their away match versus Monageer-Boolavogue on August 15. Meanwhile, the under-nines and under-11s are having great fun playing blitzes in both codes.

Adult Championship Fixtures

This coming weekend promises to be extremely busy for players, club officials and supporters with our three adult teams in championship action. On Friday, August 9, our junior hurlers travel to Mayglass to play Kilmore at 7.30 p.m. The following day, Saturday, August 10, our intermediate hurlers will play Shelmaliers in St Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy at 3.30 p.m.

On Sunday, August 11, Oulart-The Ballagh senior hurlers will play Shelmaliers in Wexford Park at 7.15 p.m. Best of luck to players and managements.

Camogie

The under-sixes up to the under-12s are doing well in all their outings. The under-14s won one, drew one and lost one, and with two matches remaining, they hope to make the play-off. Our under-16, minor and junior players continue to train hard but have no local matches scheduled due to Inter-county fixtures.

Oulart-The Ballagh senior camogie team are at home to Glynn-Barntown in championship on Monday, August 5, at 2 p.m.

CFR Training

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders is live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service on a totally voluntary basis. For details of joining and training please contact Ger at 086 1578484 or Vickie at 087 77807849.
