Community Development Fundraiser

A family dog Night will take place on Monday, July 1, at Enniscorthy Greyound Track Ticket sellers will be calling to all houses in the parish over the next couple of weeks. Tickets €10 each.

Deepest Sympathy

Deepest Sympathy is extended to Charlie and Nannie O'Brien and Family Ballysilla, Ballymurn on the death of their son Noel. May he rest in peace.

Irish Night

An Irish night will take place on Friday, June 28, in the Anvil Pub Ballymurn. Singers, musicians, Dancers or story tellers etc welcome.

Bingo

Bingo is played every Monday night in the Anvil Ballymurn at 9 p.m.

Blackwater

GAA Notes

Fixtures for the week: Junior b hurlers play this evening (Tuesday) against St Martin's at eight in our pitch in the league. Thursday under-15 footballers play Castletown in Castletown at 7.30 p.m. On Friday you have a choice of two games. Our Intermediate hurlers play Crossabeg-Ballymurn at 7.30 p.m. in the league while our Junior B hurlers also play Crossabeg-Ballymurn at 7.30 p.m. Both in the pitch. Please note all of these matches are subject to change.

The golf classic will be taking place on August 23 in Enniscorthy Golf Club with teams of four for €200. Usual prizes while there is tee/green sponsorship available.

The junior footballers made it to the league semi-final by defeating Gusserane O'Rahillys 4-14 to 0-10. Mossy Murphy, Conor Sutton, Kerill Sutton and Diarmuid Murphy with the goals. The under-15 footballers defeated Marshalstown-Castledockrell 4-17 to 0-03 in the championship to remain undefeated.

Crossabeg

Patrons

The annual patron to Crossabeg cemetery will take place on Saturday, July 6, Weather permitting the Mass will be celebrated in the cemetery at 7 p.m. If you wish to have your deceased family members and friends included for prayers at the Altar please leave their names in at the parochial house or the parish office over the coming weeks. The annual patron day in Ballymurn will take place on Sunday, August 18,

Beg Keg Tournament

Crossabeg AFCs annual seven-a-side Beg Keg tournament will take place on Saturday, July 13, in their local pitch in Newcastle, Crossabeg. Entry fee for teams of 10 will cost €100. For further information please contact Peter Culleton at 087 7798384 or Eoin Kelly at 086 2598311.

Leinster Champions

Last weekend proved very successful for St Killian's juvenile member Jack Forde at the Leinster championships in Tullamore. Jack took home no less than four gold medals over the two-day events. On the Saturday he took gold in the under-17 High Jump (1.80m) gold in the Triple Jump (11.98m) and he also competed for the first time in a new event, the Pole Vault, jumping a PB of 2.85m to take the gold medal here too. On Sunday, he competed in the Shot Putt with a best throw of 11.98m to earn him his fourth medal of the championships. Great work Jack. Sonia Milbourne, competing in her first trip to the Leinster championships came home with a bronze medal in the under-17 Inter County Relay team. She also competed in the Long Jump where she finished in eighth place and she also finished in fifth place in the heat of the 100m Well done, Sonia.

Community Games athletics

The County Community Games athletics finals will take place at the Hub in Enniscorthy, on Sunday, June 30, The day will get under way at 9.30 a. m with the finals of the boys and girls Long Puck competitions. The remainder of the days programme of events will then get under way. There will be no parade and no official speeches. The organising committee are well aware that the Leinster senior hurling final between Wexford and Kilkenny will have a throw-in time of 4 p.m. and hope to have the events completed well in time for families to get home and get settled in to watch the match. Unfortunately there was not much option but to go with the date set some months ago. We do hope to see all our competitors in Enniscorthy that morning. Parents are asked to get their children to the event for 10 a.m.

Oulart

Patron and field day

The annual patron and blessing of graves in Oulart will be held on Sunday, June 30, at the usual time of 2 p.m. The field day in aid of Scoil Mochua will follow immediately with all the usual attractions, in the school premises and school grounds. Arrangements have been made for the live showing of the Leinster Hurling Final from Croke Park so that people attending the patron and field day will miss none of the action and excitement. There will also be a barbecue, wheel of fortune, bottle stall, tea and coffee as well as a Bouncy Castle for the youngsters. A raffle will be held, with a first prize of a €200 Dunnes Stores Shopping Voucher and further prizes of a cake and a Food Hamper. Tickets are on sale in local shops and will be available on Patron Day at the field day.

Donations for field day

The organisers of the field day (Scoil Mochua board of management) are making the usual appeal for donations of goods for the cake stall, The bottle stall, bric-à-brac etc and they thank you in advance for your generosity. Goods can be left in the school on Saturday the 29th 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday morning 10 a.m. to midday.

Leinster Finals

Best wishes to Shaun Murphy, Oulart-The Ballagh's representative in the Leinster Senior Hurling Final, versus Kilkenny in Croke Park on Sunday next 3oth June and best wishes also to David Redmond, who is a selector with the Wexford Minor Hurlers, who will compete in the Leinster Minor Final in Croke Park, earlier on the same day.

Oulart Active Retired

The Oulart Active Retirement Association will hold its AGM on Tuesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. in Oulart Community Centre. All are welcome to attend and new members are especially welcome.

Furlong Memorial

Oulart Hill Development Group were instrumental in the erection of the Furlong Memorial that was unveiled at Furlong's Forge on Ballyvaldon Cross on Sunday, June 16. Patrick Power (The Trading Post) was MC for the occasion while Brian Cleary provided the history and context. Furlongs were blacksmiths in Ballinahask and Ballyvaldon from about 1630 to the 1960s till the trade died out. Michael Furlong made the pikes and straightened the heels of the scythe blades to make them into weapons in 1798 and he took part with the Ballyvaldon men at the North Cork Lane Ambush in the flight phase of the Battle of Oulart Hill, May 27, 1798. The following day he and Thomas Cullen (leader of the Ballyvaldon men) were killed in the Taking of Enniscorthy. Further information and photographs are available on Oulart Hill page on Facebook.

Split-the-Pot

The latest winner of Scoil Mochua's split-the-pot is Lucy Bolger, who won €149 while the previous week's winner was Anne Costello, who won €134.The school benefits to the same amount as the winners. Entry envelopes are available from the school and from local businesses. The parents' association say 'thank-you' to all who regularly play split-the-pot in support of the local primary school.

Split-the-pot Upfront

Scoil Mochua parents' association is now taking advance payments for playing split-the-pot When you pay in advance for 10 weeks you get one week free. Simply do the following to play Upfront - (1) Fill out the split-the-pot envelope as usual and put €20 in it.(2) Write Upfront on the envelope. (3) Put the envelope in any of the split-the-pot boxes in local businesses before 6 p.m. on Monday, June 24. You will then be covered to play in every draw till and including Monday, September 2.

Underage Stars

Congratulations to Jason Rossiter and Ben Harpur, who played with the victorious Wexford Primary Schools' Rackard League team in the Leinster 'Lift and Strike' competition that was held in Carlow recently. The competing counties were Wexford, Laois, Kilkenny and Offaly. Four Oulart-The Ballagh boys are involved with the Wexford under-14 Development squad-Dylan Butler, Simon Roche, Lee Doyle and Conor Blake.

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Development Draw

The prize-winners in the May Draw are Eithne Dunne and Family (€100), Johnny Murray (€50), Dan and Majella Doran (€50).

Club lotto

The numbers drawn on June 10 were 1, 7, 26 and 32. The Bonus number was 29. The prize-fund stands at €13,000. There was no jackpot winner. The lucky-dip winners of €30 each were Leslie Creane, Brian Sinnott, Phil Redmond, Aidan Moran and TJ and Megan c/o the Sawdust. The next draw will be held on June 24. Tickets are available from local promoters and from local businesses.

Joan Kavanagh and friends are organising a Charity Fun Run/Walk/Jog to be held on Sunday, July 14, at 4 p.m. in Oulart. It will start outside Oulart Hill Bar and the entry fee is €10 for adults and €2 for children. Proceeds will go towards the Cardiac Unit Wexford Hospital. The Graduation Mass for the sixth class pupils from Curracloe national school will be celebrated in Curracloe church today, Tuesday, June 25, at 9.30 a.m.

Yoga for Relaxation
