Around the districts: Ballymurn, Blackwater, Crossabeg, Oulart, Over The Water

Ballymurn: Golf Classic - A golf classic in aid of continuous renovation in Ballymurn Church will take place on Friday, August 9, in Wexford Golf Club.

All golfers, adults and Youths are invited to participate. A letter will be delivered to each house during the week explaining the situation, and will be followed by a door-to-door visit.

Bag Pack

There will be a Bag Pack in aid of Ballymurn Hall Development fund on the August bank holiday weekend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Dunnes Stores Wexford. If anyone would like to participate the shifts are 10 - 2 and two - six. We need six people on each shift, please contact Mag Balfe.

Bus service

The local link have a service from Ballymurn to Wexford on Wednesday mornings, leaving Ballymurn at 10.05 a.m. and departing Wexford town at 1.30 p.m. It's free for 18s and under for the month of July.

Blackwater

Active Retirement

Blackwater's active retirement have a busy summer. There is a barbecue in Curacloe this Wednesday, July 24. Meeting on the bridge at 4.15 p.m. The cost is €10.

On August 7 there is a picnic/walk to Talbot Lake, meeting at 2.15 p.m. on bridge. Tea and coffee provided but you will need to bring your own snacks.

Finally, the active retirement are hosting a coffee morning on August 10 in the lodge in aid of the senior citizens' Christmas party.

Blackwater Tidy Towns

Blackwater Tidy Towns will hold its annual raffle next weekend 27/28 July. The raffle will take place on Sunday, July 28. First prize is a fabulous painting called 'Aspects of Blackwater' by renowned Artist Ken Flynn. There will be many prizes and we hope you will all support us. Lines on sale in the shops and public houses in the village. Many thanks in advance.

Aspire Dance Academy and Fitness

Royal Academy of Dance Ballet classes for children aged three to 12 years and Zumba classes for children aged six to 15 years are now enrolling for September. Spaces are limited. Adult Pilates, Ballet, Zumba and Strong (HIT) classes running weekly throughout the summer, and drop-ins are welcome. All of these classes are held in the beautiful studio at Ballyedmond. Athletics

The National AA1 competitions began in Tullamore over the weekend of July 7 in Tullamore. On Day one, Jack Forde from St Killian's AC finished in second place in the under-17 Triple Jump. Day two of the championships saw Jack compete in the under-17 High Jump and Shot Putt. Undoubtedly going into both as favourite having won the National Indoors in both, he was pipped into second place in the High Jump with a best of 1.75m. He finished in fourth place in the Shot Putt just 5cm behind the third placed athlete and 8cm behind the second placed athlete. On the Sunday he competed in the his newest event, the Pole Vault. He jumped a new PB of 3M and took home a bronze medal on countback, jumping the same height as the first and second placed athletes. Three national medals in total is still a marvellous achievement, so well done Jack.

Wedding Bells

We send our congratulations and best wishes to Laura-Ann Furlong, formerly Ballyharron House, Crossabeg, on the occasion of her marriage to Paddy Molloy from Co. Offaly, which took place in Crossabeg Church on Friday, July 12, with the reception for family and friends in the Ferrycarrig hotel.

Bereavements

The sympathy of the community is extended to Eddie and John O'Dowd and Mary Donohoe (Monavullen) and their families on the death of their uncle Seán Ormonde, Coolballow, Wexford on July 18, whose burial took place on Saturday, July 20. The late Mr Ormonde, a Blackwater native and noted hurler, was a former secretary of Wexford GAA and in latter years was greatly involved in promoting Scór, the GAA talent competition. Solas na bh Flaitheas dá anam dílis. Condolences also to the Sinnott families, Ballinroad on the recent death of their aunt Mrs Kathleen Wickham, Davidstown (sister of the late Tom Sinnott) and to Mrs Mary McLoughlin and family on the untimely death of her nephew Barry Murphy, Buffers Alley. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a nanamacha uilig.

Talented Musician

Congratulations to Molly Gallagher, daughter of Conal and Lynda, Ballinroad on winning the Leinster title on Piano Accordian and being placed second in Piano at the recent Fleadh Cheoil in the under-15 competition. Molly has now qualified for the all-Ireland Final in August.

Wexford Inter-Co. Fixtures

Wexford Under-20 hurlers who lost to Kilkenny at Innovate Wexford Park on Wednesday, July 17, will now advance to the quarter-final. The Wexford senior hurlers will contest the all-Ireland semi-final (versus Tipperary) in Croke Park on Sunday, July 28, at 3.30 p.m. and the minor team will be in action in the semi-final (versus Galway or Clare) before the senior game. Don't forget to put out the Purple and Gold flags, banners and bunting.

GAA Cúl Camps

The GAA summer Camp held in Oulart in early July was an outstanding success and an added bonus for the youngsters was that Shaun Murphy and Kevin Foley brought the Bob O'Keeffe Cup to the camp on the last day. The boys and girls were thrilled to meet two of Wexford's stars and to get photographs with the trophy. Oulart-The Ballagh will host a second Cúl Camp, from August 12 to August 16.

Oulart Community Centre

The interior of the community centre has undergone a facelift, having been recently painted. It was open for viewing after Mass on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st when everyone was invited to drop in for a cuppa and refreshments. The committee extend their sincere thanks to Seán Doyle, who generously donated the paint for the project. And if anyone would like to make a donation towards the painting it would be greatly appreciated. The community centre is a vital amenity in Oulart and is there to be availed of and used. Split-the-Pot

The latest winner of Scoil Mochua's split-the-pot is Peig Nolan, who won €112. The school benefits to the same amount as the winners. The next draw will take place on July 22. Entry envelopes are available from the school and from local businesses. The parents' association say 'thank-you' to all who regularly play split-the-pot in support of the local primary school.

CFR Training

Scoil Mochua field day

The board of management would like to thank everyone for your support and help for the recent school field day. The donations of vouchers and prizes were greatly appreciated as was the home baking. Hands for Life

Community CPR Training is an Irish Heart Foundation programme, supported by Abbott and ESB Networks, which offer free CPR Training in communities across Ireland. There will be a Hands for Life training in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday, July 24. Places can be booked for 5 p.m., 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Register at HandsForLife.ie. Please note this course is available for any adults aged 18 years and over.

Leinster Fleadh champion

Congratulations to Seán Redmond, a pupil of Curracloe national school, who came first in the under-12 Button Accordian category at the Leinster Fleadh last weekend.

Castlebridge Show

Preparations are well under way for the 79th Castlebridge Horticultural and Agricultural show. Keep Sunday, August 11, free in your diary as the committee have another fun-filled day planned for all the family. With all this gorgeous weather that we are having at the moment, there is no better time to head out in the garden and start preparing your entries. There are numerous classes in the show, so whether you are interested in baking, arts and crafts, growing vegetables/flowers, photography or flower arrangements, the children's section or the dog show, there is a class to suit everyone. There will also be various stalls, a bottle stall run by the Shelmalier GAA Club, Mrs Oddsocks to entertain the children, a bric and brac stall being run by the Shelmalier Ladies' football club, a pets corner by Blackwater Open farm, and slam the part people with popcorn and candy floss. There will also be a raffle and music is being supplied by the local St Patrick's Fife and Drum band.
