Around the districts: Ballymurn, Blackwater, Crossabeg, Over The Water

Ballymurn: Community Development Group - Ballymurn Community Development Group fundraising committee are in the process of contacting all businesses within our community in relation to our upcoming Dog Night on Monday, July 1, in Enniscorthy.

We really appreciate the businesses that have already committed in supporting this event by way of sponsoring a race and/or taking out an advertising spot on the programme on the night. If you have not been contacted yet and would like to sponsor a race or take out an advert please contact Bobby Redmond via Facebook and he will contact you directly.

This we hope to be our main fundraiser and we want to put a huge effort so that we are in good position in applying for funding for the re-development of our community hub.

We will have our ticket sellers knocking on doors shortly selling tickets for this event, your contribution will be greatly appreciated. Tickets are €10 each for adult and children under the age of 18 go free, This will be a family fun event for our community with further details to follow.

We would like to remind us all, we all get benefit from our community centre, one way or another, directly or indirectly. so we need the support of every individual in our community and beyond to help us raise the vital funds to get this project up and running.

First Communion 2019

Congratulations to the boys and girls in Ballymurn, who received their First Holy Communion last weekend. They are Dani Canavan, Ashleigh Carroll, May Cummins, Nikki Fortune, Sophie Mulholland, Amber O'Connor, Ciara Redmond, Sarahjean Sneyd, Cillian Byrne, Adam Dooley, Harrison Kavanagh, Riain Redmond and AJ Walsh.

Silver Circle draw

May Winners - Congratulations to Cria Kehoe, Slaney Lodge, Kevin McDermott, Kilpatrick, Nicky and Anne Cowman, Monmore, Anthony O'Gorman, Ballymurn and Caroline Nolan also of Ballymurn. Each winner receives €200. Thanks to all Silver Circle participants for their support.

GAA lotto results

Numbers drawn were 1, 7, 14 and 28. No jackpot winner, one match-three winner, Dave Doyle. Next jackpot €10,000. Adoration the Adoration Rota Team would welcome new members. If anyone has an hour to give each Tuesday or an hour occasionally, contact any nmember orthe parish office at 053 9138103.

Community Centre AGM

The AGM of the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre Development Committee took place in the Forge, Crossabeg on Tuesday last. A good number was in attendance to hear reports of progress made in the last 12 months and plans for development works to get under way before year end. The need for urgent works on the entrance drive was discussed and agreed.

Tom Bermingham paid a warm tribute to former chairman Séamus Kehoe, RIP and the huge contribution he made to the community project over the years.

The incoming committee elected on the night is as follows: Bernie Kiely (Chair), Billy Sweetman (Vice-Chair), Pat Gately and Tommy Kinlough (Joint Secretaries), Bobby Kenny (treasurer), Mary Keating (PRO), Tom Bermingham, Avril Murphy, Helen Moore, Sheila Kelly, Geraldine Cullen, Donnacha McDonald, John Fortune, Fergus Moore, Mike McLaughlin and Seán Kehoe. Many thanks to Tom Bermingham for his expert chairing of the committee over the last year.

Community Games Athletics

The area finals of the local Community Games athletic events will be held at the community field in Garrywilliam, Crossabeg, on Thursday, May 30, registration takes place at 6.30 p.m and the events get under way at 7 p.m. Admission is €2 for all. Children from the Crossabeg, Ballymurn, Castlebridge, Screen, Curracloe, Ardcavan, Ferrybank, Oylegate, Glenbrien areas can compete in these events. Blackwater

Pilgrimage to Knock

The Blackwater Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Tuesday, June 11, Bus Departs 9 a.m.; lunch stop in Tullamore Lunch, arrival in Knock 4 p.m. Evening Meal andight Visit to Shrine. June 12: Free Time after breakfast, Mass with Anointing midday, Lunch, Departure for home 3 p.m.

Cost is €110 inclusive of all excepting Tullamore Lunch and refreshments on the return journey. Booking after next weekend after Masses, €50 deposit, Shipley Room, Blackwater Church.

GAA club news

Tonight (Tuesday) Intermediate Hurling League v Rathgarogue-Cushinstown at 8 p.m. in our pitch. Under-13 Division 3 Hurling Championship v Horeswood at 7.30 in Horeswood. Sunday Junior b Hurling League v Kilmore at 11 a.m. in our pitch.

Quiz night this Friday night at 9 p.m. in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel in aid of the adult and camogie club. Hopefully for a large crowd.

The intermediate hurlers lost out to Taghmon-Camross in the league but were extremely depleted losing 5-13 to 2-17. Taghmon scoring two late goals.

Well done to Eugene Clarke, who played midfield for the Enniscorthy CBS team eco h turned around a 26 defeat at half time to win. They went onto the Leinster final winning that so another medal to the parish.

This week 25 years ago the under-14 camogie club won their division in the Slaney Blitz amasing an impressive 11 goals and 17 points in five games. Mary Walsh as team captain was presented with the cup. The intermediate footballers were defeated by Kilrush in the championship 4-12 to 0-05.

Community Games Athletics

The athletic finals for the local Community Games Area will be held this Thursday, May 30, with registration at 6.30 p.m. and events under way at 7 p.m. These events cater for children from the Crossabeg, Ballymurn, Oylegate, Glenbrien, Castlebridge, Screen, Curracloe, Ardcavan and Ferrybank areas. Admission is €2 for all.

Storytelling

The next session of storytelling, recitations and music will take place at Kyle Forge on Sunday next, June 2, commencing at 8 p.m. Refreshments are also served.

Silver Circle

Castlebridge Show committee are holding a garden evening with Syl Doyle of Wilton nursery Bree, on Wednesday, June 5, in the Community Garden, Castlebridge, commencing at 7.30 p.m. Syl will conduct a walk and talk session around the gardens and answer any questions you may have. He will also have a selection of plants for sale. Tea, coffee and some delicious home baking will be served after the talk and admission is free.

Exam Mass

The annual Mass to pray for those sitting State exams will be offered up in Castlebridge church on Sunday next, June 2, at 10.30 a.m coffee morning.

A coffee morning for parents, grandparents, friends and family of students sitting State exams will be held in the parochial house, Castlebridge, on Wednesday, June 5, at 10 a.m.

Development lotto

Results of Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, May 19, The numbers drawn were 13, 20, 21 and 23. There was no jackpot winner and two match-three winners, who received €150 each, Eileen Kinsella, Ballinacoola, Curracloe and Patrick O'Connor, The Ballagh.

Curracloe school news

Congratulations to Sarah and John Curran, who won €64 in last week's split-the-pot draw and to Helen and Jamie Larkin, who won €75 in the May 22 draw. The next draw takes place this Wednesday, May 29.

Children from second to sixth classes took part in the County Wexford Primary School Athletics held at Enniscorthy Sports Hub last week. The children participated really well in their events and had a great day.

All classes travelled to Leisure Max on Thursday, May 23, to take part in a bowling competition. Thanks to all at Leisure Max for a great day and the free use of their facilities.

Well done to the boys from the school who were part of the Rackard League team that progressed to the Rackard League Roinn A Hurling final. They put up a great fight against Oulart. Thanks to Amanda Bolger for all her hard work.

Fifth and sixth classes took part in a Round Robin competition in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club on Wednesday, May 15, Well done to all the children and a huge thanks to the Boat and Tennis club for the use of their facilities free of charge.
