Ballymurn: Cabaret - There will be a Cabaret on Sunday, August 4, at 9pm in the Anvil Lounge. Music by Lauren Hayes in aid of Ballymurn Hall Development.

Guinness World Record

Mag Balfe has put in an application to the Guinness World record to raise money for the village hall. The challenge is the most linked in a 5k run. The record was broken in 2017 in America which saw 192 participants run a linked 5k. If anyone would like to participate you need to be over 18 and must be able to run 5k without stopping. Time is not a factor in this challenge so we can go as slow as we like but just not break the link. There will be a €10 entry fee.

Golf Classic

Ballymurn Church golf classic in aid of church funds will take place on Friday, August 9. Tee-off times from 12.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wexford Golf Club. Entry fee per team of four €120. Cabaret and golf classic Prize Giving Night in aid of Ballymurn Church Repairs/Upkeep in the Anvil pub on Friday, August 9, music by Joe Hogan. Admission is €5.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre

We are very grateful to Minister Paul Kehoe and Michael D'arcy TD for taking time out of their busy schedules during the week to meet with committee members at Garrywilliam and view the plans for Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre.

Bus service

The local link have a service from Ballymurn to Wexford on Wednesday mornings leaving Ballymurn at 10.05 a.m. and departing Wexford town at 1.30 p.m.

Ballymurn Patron

Ballymurn Patron will take place on Sunday, August 18.

Blackwater

GAA notes

The junior b hurlers enjoyed a good win in round eight of the Wexford District hurling championship to leave themselves second in the table defeating Glynn-Barntown by 1-24 to 2-08. The lads led by just for four at the turn but the introduction of Lar Lacey changed the game creating our only goal for Paul Murphy to finish to the net. Scorers: Wayne O'Connor 0-08 (0-7 frees), Dean Whelan 0-4, Lar Lacey 0-4, Paul Murphy 1-1, James Dooley 0-3, Kerill Sutton 0-2, Kieran Roche 0-1, Gavin O'Toole 0-1.

The club was in mourning at the sad passing of our club Vice-president Seán Ormonde. He played on the 1957 team while he was also wexford GAA secretary for a number of years. There was a large guard of honour at his funeral and will be sadly missed in the club.

Crossabeg

Silver Circle

Killurin Regatta

Killurin Regatta will hold their annual rowing regatta on Sunday, August 4, at Killurin pier from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m. All are most welcome along to this very popular event. The club has leased land and buildings from Wexford County Council at the Civic Amenity facility at the old Killurin landfill, and plan to develop this area over the coming years into a rowing clubhouse and gym and to establish a boat workshop and boat storage facility.

Athletics

The Wexford County men's team are the Irish Life Health National Division 1 champions for 2019, having won the title, competing over the past few weekends in Tullamore. That winning team included St Killian's own Jack Forde, who helped his team on days one and two, competing in High Jump, Triple Jump, Relays (four x100m and four x 400m). The team has now been promoted to the Premier League. Anne-Marie Forde, St Killian's chairperson was one of the team managers.

Aspire Dance Academy and Fitness

Royal Academy of Dance Ballet classes for children aged three to 12 years and Zumba classes for children aged six to 15 years are now enrolling for September. Spaces are limited. Adult Pilates, Ballet, Zumba and Strong (HIT) classes running weekly throughout the summers, and drop-ins are welcome. All of these classes are held in the beautiful studio at Ballyedmond. Shelmalier GAA news

Well done to the Shels players Simon Donohoe, Dylan O'Neill, Seán Keane-Carroll and Ross Banville, who have represented Wexford so well over the last few months. All at the club is very proud of their performances.

Playground

Calling all children from the local community, to go along and check out the playground in Hollymount. The playground received part funding from Wexford Leader programme and all children from the community are welcome to and indeed encouraged to use the facility. Thanks to all within the club who worked so hard to bring the project to completion. The club welcomes everyone to enjoy the new playground.

Development lotto

Results of the Curracloe United Development lotto draw for Sunday, July 21, The numbers drawn were 13, 14, 20 and 23. There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winners, so the match-three winners will share €300 in the next draw.

Castlebridge Show

Preparations are well advanced for the 79th Castlebridge Horticultural and Agricultural show, which will take place on Sunday, August 11, The organising committee are planning another fun filled day for all the family. They have numerous classes so whether you are interested in baking, arts and crafts, growing vegetables/flowers, photography or flower arrangements, the children's section or the dog show, there is a class to suit everyone.

There will also be the ever popular various stalls, a bottle stall run by the Shelmalier GAA Club, Mrs Oddsocks to entertain the children, a bric-à-brac stall by the Shelmalier Ladies' Football club, the pets corner by Blackwater Open farm, and Slam the part people with popcorn and candy floss as well as a raffle and then some music by the St Patrick's Fife and Drum band.

Preschool open evening

Smart Kidz Preschool is holding an opening evening on August 1 between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for parents and children interested in booking or coming to having a look at our preschool and new toddler room which is opening in September. Glenbrien NS

School secretary Required at Glenbrien NS to work 15 hours per week. Contract is part time, starting August 26. Successful Candidate must be Garda Vetted. Bingo In Mernaghs

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the Community First Responders, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

CFR Training

Mike Denver in Concert

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA will present the ever-popular Mike Denver in concert at the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey on Thursday, August 22. Doors will open at 7.30 p.m. and the concert will commence at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are priced at €20. This promises to be a superb event, not to be missed.

GAA Cúl Camps

Oulart-The Ballagh will host a second Cúl Camp, from August 12 to August 16. Boys and girls who attended the earlier camp may also enrol in the August camp.
