Ballymurn - Bingo: Bingo takes place every Monday night in the Anvil Pub, starting at 9 p.m.

Youth Club

Youth Club meet every Friday night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Ballymurn Hall.

Feast of St Blaise: Throats will be blessed before and after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3.

Fitness Classes

KT Fitness and Coaching classes continue in Ballymurn Hall on Monday and Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Everyone welcome.

Ballymurn Knitter Knatters meet every Wednesday morning in the club room of Ballymurn hall. Everyone welcome.


Active retirement

Members of active retirement are meeting at 10 a.m. every Tuesday morning for a walk at the GAA pitch. Meet other members of our community and walk at your own pace. Come on and try it.

We have a busy year planned with social outings and games, social outings and guest speakers. It's not too late to join the Active Retirement. Our next meeting, with refreshments, in the Lodge will be on February 11.

GAA club notes

minor training has started back with training on Friday 7-8, Sunday morning and Tuesday evening from then on. Brian Curran and his selectors will be putting the team through their paces for the season ahead.

2019 club membership is due. Player €150, player and partner €160, student €70, non-player €60 and non-player and partner €70.

We would love to photograph any old medal especially one of the 1899 or 1901 Leinster or all-Ireland final medals, there must be one floating around the parish? Baby/Toddler Group

There will be a gathering in Glenbrien Old School Centre on Tuesday, January 29, 9.45 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. to determine if there is sufficient interest to establish a weekly group for young children (aged 0-5 years) and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. Glenbrien Text Alert

A final reminder to people who have yet to pay their 2019 subscription. We appreciate that Christmas was a busy time so can you please contact any committee member to arrange payment as any unpaid members will be removed from the list.

Also, if you wish for your number to be removed then please contact us. The service has been running well lately and it would be a pity to be removed. Committee members are Mark McClean, Mary Kehoe and Theresa Shanahan.

Glenhrien Primary School

Grandparents and Grandfriends day will take place in the school on Wednesday, January 30. Refreshments will be provided by the parents' association. All donations of cakes tray bakes and biscuits will be gratefully accepted before school on Wednesday morning.

Oylegate National School is now taking enrolments for September 2019. Please call to the school for a form any time from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GAA Walking Track

The top track will be fully lit every Mon/Weds/Friday evening from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for anyone who wishes to avail of the facility to get fit and healthy for 2019. Everybody welcome. Unfortunately for health and safety reasons guide dogs only are allowed.

Local Link Wexford

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communities of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An information booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.

Please note Mass times in Oylegate: Saturday vigil Mass is at 6.30 p.m.; Sunday morning Mass is at 10.30 a.m.

The Ballagh

Donation to Hope Centre

Thank you to everyone who turned up and supported the recently held Tractor Run, in the Ballagh in aid of the Hope Cancer Support Centre, Enniscorthy. It was an enjoyable afternoon and hugely successful, thanks to the trojan efforts of those involved in Sponger's Mayoral Campaign Team. One €620.48 was donated to the Hope Centre and the money will be used to enhance the services provided there. Well done to all involved.

Forthcoming events for Martin 'Sponger' Fortunes Mayoral Campaign: Bingo in Bob's bar every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. 'Open Mic' night every Thursday in the Sawdust at 9 p.m. A cake sale/Coffee morning in Freemans, Ballynamonabeg,on Saturday, February 9, from 10 a.m. till 12.30 p.m. On February 21, a Dog Night in Enniscorthy with an All-Star Race starting at 8 p.m. with 10 Greyhound races on the card. Tickets are €10 each and children under-16 are free.

Phil's Campaign

Events for Phil Redmond's Mayoral Campaign are as follows: Bingo in Oulart Community Centre, starting at 8 p.m., on Sunday, February 3, Sunday, February 10, Sunday, February 17, and Sunday, February 24. A Breakfast Morning will be held in Oulart Community Centre on Sunday, February 3, from to 12.30 p.m. On Friday, February 15, 'Dancing with Declan and the Classic Outlaws' in Oulart Community Centre at 9 p.m. On Sunday, February 24, a five k and 10k Walk and Run starting at the Upper Complex at midday, with registration from 11.30 a.m. The Circuit Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday in the Ballagh Community Centre from 8 p.m. to 9.00 till Thursday, February 14.

Underage GAA

A registration night for underage GAA and camogie players will be held in Oulart Community Centre on Saturday, February 16, at 8 p.m. For information please contact Elizabeth Freeman at 087 7560871.

Commit to be Fit

As the 'Race to be Mayor' hots up, the organisers are being most creative, coming up with very interesting ideas. Phil Redmond's team have organised six weeks of Circuit Training, for all levels of fitness, in the Ballagh Community Centre, on Mondays and Thursdays, starting on Monday, January 7, The cost is €5 per night or 12 classes for €50.

CFR Training

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders is live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis. Training of new members will be held on Wednesday, January 30, and February 6. Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to contact Vickie (087 7780749) or Ger (086 1578484).

Congratulations to the recent winners of the Ballagh split-the-pot-Eileen Codd (€67) and Liam Kehoe (€76). It costs only €2 to play and entry envelopes can be found in all local businesses. Thank you to all who support the local split-the-pot.


The astroturf playing area at the Upper Pitch is almost completed, with the lights being fitted in the next week. When fully operational it will provide a wonderful training facility for all age groups. Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club is hugely indebted to everyone who has helped and supported the project. Adult Scór

The Senior Scór GAA Talent competition will take place in Carrig-on-Bannow Community Centre on Friday, February 8, at 7.30 p.m. Details of the Scór Quiz will be announced soon.

Healthy Eating

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club is working towards achieving a Healthy Club Accreditation from the GAA and one of the areas being promoted is Healthy Eating.

The club is hosting a Healthy Eating and Cooking Workshop for players 13 to 18 years, to be held in Gorey Community School, on Saturday, February 2, from 10 a.m. till midday. This event is free to club members and is being hosted by Home Economics teacher, Mrs Imelda Browne, Oulart.

Recipes for Success has two elements: (1) A 'hands-on' kitchen-based cookery workshop which is exclusive to Phase three Healthy Clubs and (2) 'Recipes for Success' tool-kit which is filled with tasty, healthy and performance-enhancing recipes that are easy to make.
