Community Centre Development

Wexford County Council has confirmed a grant of planning permission for the revised building design at Garrywilliam. This is exciting news and allows the project to move forward towards the specification and tendering phase. Information about the design and progress for the rest of 2019 will be shared at the annual general meeting, the date of which will be confirmed shortly.

Vintage News

The Over the Water Vintage club are holding a Tractor and Car run on Sunday, April 14. All money raised will go to assist with alternations for disability access in the home of a local curracloe MS sufferer.

The run starts from Screen village at 12.30 p.m. Your support for this very worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated. For further details ring Martin at 085 1740984.

Ladies' Football

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies' Gaelic Football Club are organising an Easter Football Camp from April 15 to April 18 in Ballymurn Pitch. Two groups will be catered for, 5-7 years and eight to 12 years. For more information please contact Amanda at 086 2007418.

Deepest Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Jackman Family on the death of their sister Mary Foran, Dublin and late of Ballykelly, Ballymurn. May she rest in peace.

Community Hall Meeting

The next meeting of Ballymurn Community Hall development is on April 8 at 7.30 p.m. in the club room of the hall. Everyone welcome. This is a great opportunity for the community to get behind this project to improve and develop new facilities in our community. Surveys are due back this week.

GAA club news

Fixtures for the week: Sunday Minor Hurling Championship v Shamrocks/Davidstown 11 a.m., Home. In the afternoon round two of the junior football championship at 3.30 in Bree v Davidstown-Courtnacuddy.

The junior footballers lost by just a minimum to Castletown in the league. The lads were losing by eight at one stage in the second half but made a stirring comeback to level but just missed out in the end. Scorers Conor Sutton 0-5, Ben Redmond 1-0, Kerill Sutton 1-0 peno, Dean Wright 0-2, Kevin O'Brien 0-1, Paul O'Leary 0-1, Declan O'Leary 0-1.

The minor hurlers put in a strong last 10 minutes to win 3-12 to 1-7 against Ferns in the second of the championship. The lads missing a number of players through injury and the sides were level till the last till a goal from Brian Óg pushed us in front. Scorers were Brian Óg 1-6 (0-4 frees), Ross Berry 1-1, Johnny O'Toole 1-1, Adam Murphy 0-2 (0-1 65), Séamus Walsh 0-2, Jimmy Whelan 0-1.

25 years ago this week, the Wexford District Draw took place. In Junior B hurling Blackwater were drawn against Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the preliminary round. In junior b football, we were drawn against volunteers. In under-21 hurling we were drawn against Crossabeg-Ballymurn while in under-21 football we were down to play Shelmaliers. Seán Ormonde was on the committee for the season.

Macra Na Feirme reunion

This year is the 70th Anniversary of Macra Na Feirme in County Wexford. To mark this wonderful achievement we are organising a Macra reunion and dinner dance on Saturday, April 13, in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy at 7.30 p.m. Tickets can be booked by contacting Sarah at 085 113308. Collection thanks

Epilepsy Ireland would like to thank the people of Glenbrien and Oylegate for their generous support at the recent church gate collection; €283 was collected in Glenbrien and €256 in Oylegate. Thanks to all those who collected and supported the collection.

Social dancing

The next date for social dancing is April 14 in the Oylegate Community Centre at 8, 30 Music will be provided by John Fleming, Admission €8.

Camogie Training Times

Under-eight/under-10/under-12 Training will start back on Monday, April 1, at 6, 30 p.m. New members are allways welcome, just come along to training.

Village Renewal Group

An information morning will take place in the Old School Centre on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. This is an open invitation to all the Community {children included} to drop in for a chat about all the work that has been completed and the future direction of the group.

It is hoped with new interest and fresh ideas it will be possible to futher develop and complete the public Amenity Area.

GAA club news

GAA lotto syndicate winners of €100 for march are Matt/Mgt OConnor and Robert Stamp. Lotto winnings were €117, we thank you most sincerely for your support in year one and we hope you will rejoin for year two, developments at the grounds are all thanks to your generosity.

A GAA lotto syndicate information/rejoining evening will be held in the community centre Oylegate on Saturday, April 6, at 7.30 p.m. Year one of this fundraising venture was a great success and with your continued support in year two further developments can continue at our grounds, Our facilities are second to none and are of huge benefit to the young people of the parish. The new walking track has proved very popular with all in the community and an astroturf area will benefit all our hurling and camogie teams. We look forward to another great year for Oylegate-Glenbrien and thank you for your continued support.

Local Link Wexford

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communities of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. Active Retired

At a recent meeting of the Ballagh Active Retirement Group a calendar of events for 2019 was drawn up, including a Mid-Week Getaway to Racket Hall Country House Hotel, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, from June 17 to June 20. The all-inclusive price of €235 includes three nights dinner, bed and Breakfast, return Coach travel from the Ballagh, two Day Coach tours to places of interest in the surrounding area and Evening Entertainment. Bingo for Community Centre

The Ballagh Community Centre will hold a fundraising bingo on Saturday, April 20, at 8 p.m. This bingo session is to help towards the upkeep and maintenance of the Community Centre.

Choir for Easter

Rehearsals for Easter Saturday Night Mass (April 20) are under way on Monday nights at 7.30 p.m.

Talk for Parents

The parents' association of Ballaghkeene National School has organised a talk for parents called 'Supporting parents to support their children's mental health and well-being'. The Talk will take place in the school on April 8 at 7.30 p.m. and is highly recommended by the National parents' council (Primary).

Boxing

Boxers from the Ballagh Club are continuing the proud local tradition and being successful, year after year. Congratulations to Ryan Cullen and Aaron Kirwan-Doyle, who qualified for the Leinster Finals in Athy and commiserations to James Cullen, who lost on a very close decision.

Defibrillator

The Ballagh Community Centre obtained a grant of €3,000 to buy a defibrillator for the area. It has been erected on the Parochial House. The number for the code on the box can be obtained from Ger Dempsey (086 14784 84) or Pauline Davitt (087 6864594).

Training in how to use the defibrillator will be available shortly, in the community centre.

CFR Training

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders is live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis.

GAA/Camogie Registration

Parents/Guardians of underage GAA and camogie players are reminded that ALL players must be registered for training and playing matches and that the deadline to enter competitions and to register teams is fast approaching. Mini-7s Hurling/Rackard League

The boys from the Ballagh primary school and their coaches are to be congratulated on qualifying for the Mini-Sevens finals, in a group that included Rathnure, Kilanerin and Buffers Alley. The Rackard League hurling team are at home to Ballindaggin on April 3. The Rackard League camogie team lost to Oylegate and have upcoming fixtures against Blackwater and Camolin.

Underage GAA results and fixtures.

Oulart-The Ballagh Premier under-17 hurlers lost to Glynn-Barntown on a scoreline of two goals 13 points to one goal nine points. They are at home to Shelmaliers on Wednesday, April 3, at 8 p.m. They play Na Laochra in Bunclody at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 7.

Our under-13 boys play Roinn one football (Division 4) on Tuesday, April 9, versus Ferns at 6.30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 16, they are at home to Glynn-Barntown, in championship hurling at 7 p.m. in Oulart.

Two teams of our under-11 hurlers had a very successful outing in the recent Go Games Blitz in Ferns.
