Around the Districts: Ballymurn, Crossabeg, Glenbrien, Oylegate, Oulart and Over the Water

Ballymurn - Silver Circle: The first draw in the Silver Circle fundraiser took place in Foley's Pub in Crossabeg last Friday night. Under the watchful eyes of members of the community centre Project Committee, the Silver Circle Numbers of our first five lucky winners were drawn.

Five prizes of €200 will be distributed this week. Congratulations to all. The December draw will take place on December 21 in 'The Anvil' in Ballymurn.

Bingo

Bingo is played every Monday night in the Anvil pub starting at 9 p.m.

Dates for your Diary

Ballymurn Community Gathering will take place on Sunday, December 2 - more details to follow shortly. The Tara Bishop 5K Fun Run will take place on Sunday, January 27, in Ballymurn Everyone welcome.

Youth Club

Youth club takes place every Friday night in Ballymurn Hall from eight to 10.

GAA club AGM

Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club will have their AGM on Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m. in the Forge Crossabeg.

Camogie club AGM

Oylegate-Glenbrien camogie club AGM takes place on Saturday, November 24, at 7.30 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. All parents and adult players are encouraged to attend.

Congratulations

Congratulations to John Cullen Ballylucas of John Cullen Grain on being named tillage farmer of the year at the Zurich Insurance farmer of the Year awards in the Hodson Bay hotel Arklow recently, which included a cash prize of €2,000.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy to the Parle family on the deaths of Rita's two uncles Charlie and Martin Murphy Killisk, whose funerals took place in the Ballagh recently. RIP.

Sincere sympathy to Eileen Sludds and family on the death of her husband Artie, whose funeral took place in Ballymurn recently. RIP.

Crossabeg

Silver Circle

The first draw in the Silver Circle fundraiser took place in Foley's Pub in Crossabeg on Friday night last. Athletics

St Killian's senior member Brian Shaughnessy braved the challenging conditions on Sunday week last in Adamstown and was the club's sole representative in the Leinster Senior Cross Country championships. Brian had a great race and showed real strength to finish in 41st place in a time of 39 minutes 51 seconds for the 10K course.

Emma McCarthy and Chloe Reck competed at the same venue in the Leinster Cross Country juvenile championships with both competing in the under-11 category. Chloe found the going tough but gave it her all, while Emma placed fifth and was the first girl home for the Wexford team which also claimed the gold medals.

The team now qualify for the national finals to be held in December. Huge congratulations to Emma on her fantastic run, making her the first juvenile member of the club to win a Leinster cross country medal.

Diary Date

The annual general meeting of St Killian's Athletic Club will take place on Wednesday, December 5.

Open Meeting

Crossabeg Church Finance committee will hold an open meeting in Kyle Forge at 8.15 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, November 20, The current financial situation will be presented. Topics of discussion will include ways to secure a sustainable financial basis for the continued maintenance and upkeep of the church building. The committee will always need people to participate in the community. If anyone wants to become a member/helper of the Finance committee, please contact Fr Finn.

GAA News

Congratulations to the Junior Hurlers on their fine win over Cuala of Dublin and well done to Barry Dunne, who was voted player of the match.

They have now booked a place in the semi-finals V Graigue Ballycallan of Kilkenny. The game will again be hosted by the Killeedy club in Limerick on December 2 at 2 p.m. Best of luck to the team and mentors.

very big thank you to all those who supporte the cchurchgate collection in Oylegate and Glenbrien for Down Syndrome - the total raised was €223.50 for Glenbrien and €259.96 for Oylegate.

Senior citizens party

This year's Christmas party for senior citizens will take place on Sunday the 16th of of December in the Old School Centre at the moment there are committee member going round distributing invitations please contact the parish office or any member of the group if you have not received an invitatiion over the next two weeks and we will get one to you.

Race to be Mayor

The GAA Mayoral Election Campaign is well under way and the next few weeks will see lots of fundraising activities organised for the candidates.

On Saturday, November 24, Phil's team will hold a Variety Show in Oulart Hill Bar, beginning at 9 p.m. and on the following day, Sunday the 25th they will host Lunch in Oulart Community Centre, midday to 2 p.m. Later that night, bingo will take place in Oulart Community Centre.

On December 1 Martin 'Sponger' Fortune's team will hold 'Come Dine with me' in the Ballagh Community Centre while on December 2, 9 and 16 Phil's team will hold bingo. As this year is the 25th Anniversary of Oulart-The Ballagh winning their first Senior Hurling Title (1994) Phil's team will launch a Souvenir Calendar in Oulart Community Centre on Saturday, December 15. And if you want to buy a real Christmas Tree to support Sponger's Mayoral campaign, please place your order with Declan at 087 3456523.

The two candidates' teams also have raffle tickets circulating, with valuable prizes on offer. We would encourage as many as possible to support the events as all the proceeds go to Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club. Please follow the Facebook page for more details.

Split-the-pot

Congratulations to the most recent winner of Scoil Mochua's split-the-pot - Sara Steacy - who won €133. Entry envelopes are available from local businesses and from the school.

School Calendar

Scoil Mochua's annual calendar will be launched on Friday, November 23. This Calendar, featuring the current pupils is a must for families and will form a lovely keepsake to recall 'the happiest days' of the youngsters.

Scouts' Cake Sale

A Church Gate cake sale, to raise funds for the 22nd Wexford Oulart Scout Group, will take place, in Oulart and the Ballagh this coming weekend, November 24/25. Your support would be greatly appreciated and donations of baked goods would be very welcome. Please contact Siobhán at 086 0792160.

Local Place Name Project

Some 22nd Wexford Cub Scouts have been working on a community project on local place names, called Meitheal Logainm. It's an online project inviting people to enter local names of fields, lanes, crossroads etc. into a national database, as an opportunity to preserve and share the minor placenames in their native areas.

We are inviting the community to come along any time between 4.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. next Wednesday, November 21, at the Bygone Days house in Lower Oulart, where they can share their local knowledge of place names with us. We are looking for anything that would not be found on a normal map eg. the name that a field or lane may have been called locally.

GAA dinner dance

The Shelmalier GAA Club in association with St Ibar's camogie club and the Shelmalier Ladies' Gaelic Football Club will host a dinner dance and presentation night on Saturday, December 1, at 7.30 p.m. in Hotel Curracloe. A four course meal will be served. Tickets are priced at €25 and available from the Porterhouse, Castlebridge; Hotel Curracloe and any committee member.

1910 Remembrance Mass

The annual Mass in honour of the Shelmalier all-Ireland winning team of 1910 and in remembrance of all deceased members will be celebrated at 10.30 a.m. in Castlebridge church on Sunday, November 25, annual general meeting.

Shelmalier GAA Club will hold their annual general meeting on Friday, November 30, at Hollymount complex. Refreshments will be served at 7.30 p.m.

Coiste na nÓg

The annual general meeting of Shelmalier Coiste na nÓg will take place on Tuesday, December 4, in Hollymount at 7.30 p.m. Thanks to all who make hurling 365 possible in Castlebridge national school. Large numbers of children are participating. Good luck to the under-14s in the semi-final of the Martin Storey tournament, which will take place on Sunday, November 25, at 11.30 a.m. at Hollymount.

Development lottos

Results of the Curracloe United Development lotto for Sunday, November 11, The numbers drawn were 5, 7, 25 and 28. There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winners. Weekly draw takes place every Sunday night at 9 p.m.

Curracloe school news

Congratulations to the recent split-the-pot winner Eoin O'Doherty, who won €110.50c. The next draw takes place on Wednesday, November 21, Weekly envelopes (€2 each) can be purchased in the local businesses in Curracloe or at the school.

Bingo continues every Sunday in the school hall from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Well done to all the members of the girls' team for their fantastic performance in St Patrick's Park on Tuesday, November 13, All of the team displayed great skill and sportsmanship.

Third to sixth class pupils are really looking forward to performing in the National Opera House on Thursday, November 22, at 7.30 p.m. They have been practising hard for the last few months and cannot wait to show their parents and friends a great time on the night.

Hotel Curracloe

The weekly winners of cards for turkeys recently were Larry O'Shaughnessy and Joe Kelly.

Screen school news

Well done to the girls who played in the Rackard League final on Tuesday night of last week. Unfortunately it was not their night, but they played a fantastic game and were great ambassadors for their schools. Everyone is very proud of them.

Music workshops have started in school for the junior classes, where pupils will be learning all about percussion instruments and rhythm. The senior classes will get their turn in the New Year. T.

his month the school have started a brand new children's book club. If you are interested in trying a new book, why not look at the choices for this month: 'Ghosts' by Raina Telgemeier (age 8-10) and 'The Secrets of Grindlewood' by Jackie Burke.

The recent clothes collection with NBCI was a great success. With thanks to everyone who brought bags of clothes to the school, a total of €803 was raised for the school. This money will hopefully go towards buying a further two interactive boards for the classrooms.

Keep this date in your diary: On Thursday, December 13, the school will be having their annual carol service followed by the switching on of the lights. Further details will follow soon.
