Ballymurn: Dates for your diary - Ballymurn Community Gathering will take place on Sunday, December 2. More details to follow shortly. Fun Run for Temple Street Hospital and Ballymurn National School. The Tara Bishop 5K Fun Run will take place on Sunday, January 27, in Ballymurn. Everyone welcome.

Silver Circle Fundraiser

Excitement is building as the first Silver Circle draw is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 16, in Foleys of Crossabeg. We are really looking forward to announcing our first five lucky winners. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome on the doorsteps and generous support. The initiative has proved hugely popular across both Crossabeg and Ballymurn. The funds raised will be a game changer in advancing our community centre plans.

Bingo

Bingo is played every Monday night in the Anvil pub starting at 9 p.m.

Youth Club

Youth club takes place every Friday night in Ballymurn Hall from eight to 10.

GAA club AGM

Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club will have their AGM on Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m. in the Forge Crossabeg.

Camogie club AGM

The Oylegate-Glenbrien camogie club AGM takes place on Saturday, November 24, at 7.30 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. All parents and adult players are encouraged to attend.

Open meeting

Crossabeg Church Finance committee will hold an open meeting in Kyle Forge at 8.15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, The current financial situation will be presented. Topics of discussion will include ways to secure a sustainable financial basis for the continued maintenance and upkeep of the church building. The committee will always need people to participate in the community. If anyone wants to become a member/helper of the Finance committee, please contact Fr Finn.

Christmas party

The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the parish will take place at Ferrycarrig hotel on Sunday, December 9, dinner will be served at 5.30 p.m. Members of the organising committee are busy preparing for the event and to help offset the costs, tickets are now on sale throughout the parish. Please help out and give as generously as you can when they call to your door.

Christmas Fair/Coffee morning

The annual Christmas baking and coffee morning fundraiser, organised by local lady, Annis Kehoe, will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, December 8Annis will have plenty of cakes, puddings, tarts, mince pies, jams, bread, and vegetables on sale. If you wish to pre-order, contact her at 087 2426146. There will also be a raffle with great prizes on offer.

This year Annis has chosen the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre at Garrywilliam to benefit from the fundraiser. With a lot of focus and support on fundraising for the centre lately, we hope that the parish will continue that trend and get behind Annis and help make the occasion a profitable and enjoyable event. Keep that date in your diaries.

St Killian's AC news

Well done to St Killian's senior member, Niall Sheil, who travelled to Dungarvan on Sunday week last to compete in the 25th annual Brickie 5K hosted by West Waterford Athletic Club. The conditions were ideal for the testing course that always attracts a high level of competition and that day was no different with Wexford, Waterford and Tipperary athletes making the podium. Niall had a great race, picking up the pace coming into the last 2k to take the win in a time of 16min 05 sec from Noel Murphy of Waterford athletic club in second in a time of 16min 28sec. This was great preparation for Niall as he prepares to represent Ireland in the upcoming home nations cross country championships in Swansea in a couple of weeks.

A reminder to all parents of the juvenile members. Indoor training has now reverted to Crossabeg national school. First to third class members train from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Monday evenings and from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. for fourth classes and upwards. Training on Thursday nights only for the older group from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Development lottos

Results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, November 4. The numbers drawn were 11, 12, 14 and 25. There was no jackpot winner and five match-three winners who each received €30, Marie, Lou and Adam c/o Marie Howlin; John and Eileen Furlong, Curracloe; Annette Carley c/o Christine Keane; Bones and Co, Curracloe and S & D, c/o Shane Murphy. There was no winner of the recent Shelmalier GAA lotto draw. Match-three winners included Kate Kelly, Breda Hanley, Kathleen Ryan, all of whom won €70 each.

Cards

Weekly winners of the partners 45 in hotel Curracloe were John Byrne and Seán Murphy. Cards continue every Thursday night at 9 p.m.

Curracloe school news

Congratulations to the children in fifth and sixth classes who took part in the recent Wexford Literary Festival Children's Book Trailer competition. Students from schools across County Wexford took part, and the pupils from Curracloe school came second in the junior category. Well done to all involved and their teacher Ms Hilliard.

Congratulations to the recent split-the-pot winner, Dawn O'Leary, who won €119.50c. The next draw takes place on Wednesday, November 14. The weekly envelopes (€2 each) can be purchased in the local businesses in Curracloe or at the school.

Bingo continues every Sunday in the school hall from 3.30 p.m. 5 p.m.

Annual dinner dance

The Shelmalier GAA Club in association with St Ibar's camogie club and the Shelmalier Ladies' Gaelic Football Club will host a dinner dance and presentation night on Saturday, December 1, at 7.30 p.m. in Hotel Curracloe. A four course meal will be served. Tickets are priced at €25 and available from the Porterhouse, Castlebridge; Hotel Curracloe and any committee member.

Annual general meeting

Shelmalier GAA Club will hold their annual general meeting on Friday, November 30, at Hollymount complex. Refreshments will be served at 7.30pm.

Handball Club news

Castlebridge Handball Club had a fantastic 60x30 (2018) season, claiming 10 county titles including the team of four. At Leinster level in the singles championship, there were wins for Brendan Murphy, Stephen Murphy and Liam Murphy. John Roche, James Mythen and Pádraig Devereux claimed doubles titles with their partners.

Brendan and Stephen went on to win all-Ireland Singles titles and Pádraig and his partner were crowned doubles champions. Recent winners of the Bingo Bonus Ball draw were Lester Rossiter and Tom Rossiter. The club held its annual general meeting on Monday, November 5, with the following officers elected: Tom Rossiter (chairperson) Virginia Rossiter (secretary/PRO) Dara Cloake (treasurer) John Roche (Juvenile Officer) Pádraig Devereux/John Roche (Coaching)

Juvenile training continues every Monday 5.45 7.45 p.m. and ladies only training from 7.45 8.45 p.m and new ladies are most welcome.

The annual turkey tournament will take place in the next week or so, if you have not got your name in already, please contact the club secretary.

Christmas Fair

A Christmas Fair will be held in the Ballagh Community Centre on Sunday, November 18, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Anyone interested in having a Table at the Christmas Fair (at a cost of €20) is asked to contact Bessie Kehoe at 087 2358835.The proceeds will go towards refurbishment of the hall.

Boxing Club

Training resumes in the Ballagh on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for underage boxers and beginners. Best of luck to Ryan Cullen, who is heading to Lithuania with the Leinster squad,

Primary School success

The Rackard League Football team from the primary schools of Oulart and the Ballagh contested the Roinn C county final in St Patrick's Park on Thursday, November 8, against Wexford District winners, Bannow, and emerged victorious after extra time, scoring 7-5 to their opponents 4-12. Well done to the team and panel and to the teachers in charge, Ms Delaney and Mr McDonald. Just before the summer holidays the schoolboys won the Roinn A Rackard League Hurling Final against Piercestown so the schools and parish community have much to celebrate.

Split-the-pot

Congratulations to the most recent winners-Ger Dempsey, who won €65 and Paddy Cussen, who won €117. CFR going live

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders will be going live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis.

Book Fair

The Book Fair will take place in the school from Monday, November 19, to Wednesday, November 21, Pupils will have the opportunity to buy books on Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The book fair will also be open to parents and pupils on Tuesday from 2.40 to 3.30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The book fair is a wonderful opportunity to buy popular and recent publications and the school earns many new books through the book fair sales. Your support as always is much appreciated.

Race to be Mayor

The GAA Mayoral Election is well under way and the next few months will see lots of fundraising activities organised for the candidates. On Saturday, November 17, Martin 'Sponger' Fortune's team will hold bingo in Bob's Bars, starting at 7.30 p.m. Phil's team will hold a Sunday Lunch in Oulart Community Centre on November 25. The two candidates' teams also have raffle tickets circulating, with valuable prizes on offer.

Joan and Friends

Joan Kavanagh and friends will hold a coffee morning in Oulart Hill Bar on Friday, November 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is €3. Proceeds to local girl, Sophia Ciau, who will soon go to Germany for treatment. Contact Joan (087 9019027) for further information.

ICA open meeting

Everyone is welcome to attend the November 19 meeting of Oulart ICA as it is an 'Open Meeting' from 8.30 p.m. The guild meetings are held in Oulart Hill Lounge (Gary O';Leary's) on the third Monday of the month. At this Open Meeting there will be a demonstration on how to make a 'Memory Box' and details will also be given on knitting an unusual scarf.

Coláiste an Átha

Coláiste an Átha, Kilmuckridge will hold its Enrolment Evening for students entering First year in September 2019, on Tuesday, November 20, from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Please contact the school if you have any questions or queries about enrolling your child. (087 7857331).
