Blackwater: GAA notes - There are some fixtures this weekend. All County Football League action as our junior footballers play Sarsfields in Pairc Garman on Sunday at 11. Our minor footballers also play Sunday morning at 11 at home against Kilrush.

The first round of the football and hurling championship is known. The footballers first match is on March 30 against Oylegate-Glenbrien in Bree at 3.30. The hurlers will play Adamstown on April 13 at 3.30 in Hollymount.

The minor hurlers first game will be against Buffers Alley on Bank Holiday Monday at 11 a.m. in our pitch.

Hard luck to Darren Byrne and the Wexford Senior hurlers who lost out to Clare recently in the league.

Crossabeg

Ash Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6, is Ash Wednesday. Blessed Ashes will be distributed at 8 a.m; again after the 9.30 a.m Mass and in the evening at 6.30 p.m.

Spring Clean Litter Pick

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre committee are looking for volunteers to take part in a much-needed litter pick in the Crossabeg area which takes place on Sunday, March 10, Please meet at 9 a.m at the community field, Garrywilliam. Allow about two hours for the activity. Unfortunately, for safety reasons, this event is not suitable for children. Condolences

Our condolences to the extended Reck families, on the death of Ned Reck, Rocky Road, Castleredmond, Midleton, Cork and formerly of Monmore, Crossabeg, which occurred unexpectedly on Monday of last week at Cork University hospital.

Ned, late of the Irish Naval Services, is survived by his daughters Marian and Sonya and son Edward, wife Rose, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law. Brother of the late Mary Daniel, he is also survived by his brothers Tom, Pat, Dave, Joe, sisters Betty, Annie, Kathy, Josie, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His remains were removed to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Midleton on Thursday evening with Requiem Mass on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by burial afterwards to the adjoining cemetery. RIP.

GAA club news

Lotto syndicate draw winners for February are Tommy/Kathleen Thorpe and Eamonn/Clare Fogarty, lotto winnings were €169. The final draw for the first year of syndicate will be on March 27. We thank you most sincerely for your support and we hope you will continue with the draw for year two. Your collector will be in touch in the coming weeks and we will hold an information/rejoining evening in the community centre on Saturday, April 6, at 7.30 p.m. Developments at our grounds continue thanks to your generosity.

Social dancing

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, March 10. Music on the night is by Theresa and the Stars. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission €8. Come along and enjoy a night os music and dance.

The Sound of Music

Rehearsals are at an advanced stage for the upcoming musical 'The Sound of Music 'which will be presented in Oylegate Community Centre on Wednesday the 27th, Thursday the 28th, Friday and Saturday, March 29, and 30, nightly at 8 p.m. This hugely popular musical is sure to be a hit with all ages and the cast are busy rehearsing and looking forward to being part of this wonderful entertaining show. Tickets will be on sale shortly and can be booked at 053 9138192 or 087 9552727. Admission €12 for adults and €6 for primary school children.

Baby/Toddler Group

Baby and Toddler Group gathering every Tuesday in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.45 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. Bereavement

The sympathy of the community is extended to Aidan and Jason Kenny and their families on the death, last week, of their sister Nuala Dixon, McCurtain Street, Gorey. She is mourned by her husband Seán, sons Stephen, Craig and Ryan, daughters Fiona, Claire and Carina, extended family and friends. She was buried in St Michael's Cemetery, Gorey on Thursday, February 28. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam.

Community Text Alert

The AGM of Oulart Text Alert will take place on Wednesday, March 13, in the Legion of Mary Hall (situated just below, and on the same side as St Patrick's Church), in Oulart Village. A vacancy exists for chairperson of the group. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the AGM and to play a part in securing the safety and security of the residents of the area and their property. Your support, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Family Fun table quiz

Oulart Scout Group will hold a Family Fun table quiz in Oulart Hill Bar from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. There will be great prizes on offer. A Table of Four will cost only €20.

Scoil Mochua Notes

Enrolment Forms, for junior infants and any other pupils who wish to start school in September 2019, are available from the school office, 9 a.m. to 2.40 p.m. Parents/Guardians are advised to complete and submit enrolment forms as soon as possible.

Split-the-pot

The latest winner of Scoil Mochua's split-the-pot is Aisling Hyland, who wins €133. Entry envelopes are available from all local businesses. The next draw will be held on Monday, March 4.

Senior camogie

Best wishes to Oulart-The Ballagh senior camogie in the semi-final of the Leinster Cross County League that will be played in Oulart on Sunday, March 10, at midday. Dublin team, Ballyboden, St Enda's, will provide stiff opposition. The players and management would appreciate your support.

Get Well Wishes

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health to the people from the area who are sick at home or in hospital. For security reasons and to maintain their privacy, their names will not be published unless requested by themselves or their next-of-kin. Don't forget that on the First Friday of every month, the Rosary will be recited in St Mochua's Church, at 7.30 p.m. for the intentions of the sick of the parish. Everyone is welcome to attend.

CFR Training

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders is live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis. Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to contact Vickie (087 7780749) or Ger (086 1578484).

Mayoral Campaign

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Mayoral Campaign fundraising efforts have come to a close, with the winner to be announced on March 16 in Oulart Community Centre

The night will begin at 9 p.m. Admission is free, finger-food will be available along with Bar facilities and music will be provided by Country Outlaws.

Congratulations to the candidates, Phil Redmond and Martin 'Sponger' Fortune and their teams who did trojan work throughout the campaign and raised vital funds towards the development and improvement of facilities which will be of lasting benefit to the local community, particularly our youth. The GAA club is very appreciative of the generous response of the people of the parish as well as marvellous support from people and businesses from outside the parish.

GAA/Camogie Registration

The second and final registration night for underage and Adult GAA and camogie will be held in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday, March 6, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All players must be registered for training and playing matches and there is a deadline to enter competitions and to register teams. Over the Water

Development lotto

results of the Curracloe United Development lotto draw for Sunday, Febuary 24th. The numbers drawn were 15, 16, 25 and 28. There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winners. €300 will be shared with the match-three winners next week.

Curracloe school news

Curracloe national school is now accepting Registrations for pupils starting school in September 2019. Please contact the school at 053 - 9137283 for registration form.

Recent winner of the split-the-pot was Marguerite Curran, who won €121.50c. The next draw takes place on Wednesday, March 6, The Curracloe 5K Fun Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, March 10, at midday. Registration from 10.30 a.m. at the school. Donations accepted on the day and all funds raised go to Curracloe national school. Bingo continues every Sunday in the school hall from 3.30 5 p.m.

Men's Club

Fight Night

The Shelmalier Fight Night will take place in Hotel Curracloe on Saturday, March 9The boxers have been in serious training since Christmas and a great night's sport is guaranteed. Tickets are available from Hotel Curracloe, The Porterhouse, and members of the committee. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Furlongs of Curracloe

Winner of the Cards at Furlongs last week was Thomas Furlong. Cards continue every Monday night at 9.15 p.m. €1,000 in prizes. Texasholdem winner was Shane Murphy. There are 10 nights left in this event and it takes place every Monday night at 9.15 p.m. Pool winner was Paddy Doyle and here there are just four nights left.

Adult Meditation

Adult Meditation combined with colour therapy suited to all will begin in Screen community hall on Friday, March 9, The course will continue for four weeks and takes place from 10 a.m. and continues till 11.30 a.m.

These classes are designed to enhance overall sense of wellbeing and put a spring your step. Try the first session and decide if you want to commit to a further three sessions. Advanced booking is essential. For further information please contact Kathleen at 087 3145212.
