Four young ladies from the area competed very well at the Community Games national finals at university of Limerick over the weekend of August 17 and 18. Kayla Doyle-Kavanagh took part in the 100m under-10 event. She won her heat and semi-final in fine style and on a wet and windy Sunday morning lined up for the final and finished in third place and took home the bronze medal.

Chloe Reck competed in the 100m under-12 event. She qualified in fourth place in her Heat and just narrowly missed out on a place in the final, finishing in fifth position in the semi-final. Well done, Chloe.

Kyra Jarvis competed in the 60m under-eight event. She just missed out on a place in the final of the A competition and came back on the Sunday morning to compete in the B final where she ran a super race to pick up the silver medal.

Eimear Halpin competed in the Discus under-16 competition. In a field of over 14 competitors, she improved as the event got under way and finished in a very credible fifth place. Great performance all round, so well done girls.

Oulart

Bereavement

With the death of 94-year-old Laurence de Lacy, on Thursday, August 15, the parish of Oulart lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens.

Lar was the last of the de Lacy clan to reside in Oulart where the family have worked and farmed since before 1798. His younger brother Michael predeceased him on July 20. The late Mr de Lacy and his brother donated the site for the Mise Éire Monument in Oulart that is situated opposite the de Lacy homestead. His father Edward and his uncles Mícheál and Laurence were deeply involved in the 1916 Rising and in the War of Independence.

The sympathy of the community is extended to his relatives (The Cleary and Hyland families, Oulart, The O'Brien Family, Back of the Hill, The Gethings family, Effernogue, the de Lacy and McKenna family, Dublin, the de Lacy-Clancy family, Carrick-on-Suir and all the neighbours and friends who will miss his quiet presence. Lar was laid to rest in the family grave in Oulart Cemetery after funeral Mass in St Patrick's Church, on Saturday, August 17. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
