Bree-Galbally: Bree Active Retirement - Bree ARA social will be held on Wednesday, June 19. Nicola from Kilcannon Garden Centre will demonstrate summer basket planting. Have your gardening questions ready. The demo by Nicola will be followed by bingo and tea. Enquiries to 086 0747823.

Tidy Towns News

Bree Tidy Towns Committee would like to thank all the people of who contributed so generously to our fundraising initiative. With your help we will now be able to continue to fund the co-payment necessary to keep two workers on the CEP scheme, and to purchase bedding plants etc., ahead of when the village will be judged for this year's competition. We would also like to thank those who offered to help in a practical way and those hard-working volunteers who have continued with clearing litter from the approach roads.

Bree Community Centre Hub

Bree Community Centre is now offering for hire a standalone room/office area which is very suitable for a start up business. There are also 'hot desk spaces' for hire in the hub for any independent office worker. All enquires to Bridie Galavan at 086 8275943. Viewing is by appointment only.


Volleyball continues each Friday evening in Galbally Hall from 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. All ages and abilities welcome. For enquiries contact Gerry at 089 4052973.

Bicycle Safety

St Joseph's NS in Bree has been working recently on bicycle safety with the children. We have arranged bicycle safety workshops where the children learned how to cycle safely. We have also texted parents reminding them to take care when young cyclists are on the roads, as well as reinforcing the message to children at assembly time.

In liaison with the council, the parents' association has arranged for the erection of signs that remind drivers to be careful around cyclists. Now we are asking parishioners to do the same. Please give our young cyclists plenty of space when driving. Be aware that children make mistakes and can sometimes make sudden unpredictable movements while learning to cycle. Drivers can help by reducing their speed, keeping their distance and showing patience to young cyclists.

Cycling is great for the planet, great for the children and an essential skill for every child. Please help us to make the roads safe in the parish of Bree.

Bree AC Open Sports Success

Bree AC athletes travelled in great numbers to the Ballon Rathoe Open Sports and returned with the Best Overall Club at the Sports.

Well done to all athletes. Best wishes to the under-14-19 age group in their Leinster Championships in Tullamore next weekend.

Mass time change: Please be advised that the Saturday Vigil Mass will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, due to road restrictions for the matches in the park. People, who live within walking distance of the church are advised to walk rather than drive to Mass on this evening.

Rosary: At the Grotto in Rocklands will be prayed each Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Please join us as we pray this powerful prayer to Our Lady, Queen of Peace.

Safeguarding: Applications are invited for the role of safeguarding co-ordinator (25 hours per week). The role will involve the following: Responsibility for implementing the diocesan safeguarding policies and procedures. Liaising with and supporting parishes and communities. Garda vetting for parishes. Outreach support for survivors of clerical abuse. Co-ordination and delivery of safeguarding training to parishes. Upholding the seven standards of the church in practice and behaviour. Excellent administration and interpersonal skills a requirement for the position. Experience of volunteerism and parish involvement desirable. Clonard Guiding Unit

Not long till the summer break but before that, the girls have a sports night, a barbecue, a day trip to Courtown and a summer camp in Wales. Plans are already being made for September and it's packed with fun, trips and new activities. Na Fianna GAA

GOLF CLASSIC - Our annual golf classic takes place this Friday, June 14, in Wexford Golf Club. Cost is €160 per team of four which includes dinner after golf. Please contact Tom McLoughlin at 087 6184344 for tee times or for further details.

CAMOGIE - Our under-12 team recently travelled to Abbotstown in Dublin to take part in 'Càman to Leinster'. They played brilliantly against teams from Louth, Dublin and Meath. They were treated to Burger King on the way home, a great day out was had by all and they gained some small experience of playing inter county camogie. They also played the last of their blitzes in Rathnure and Davidstown-Courtnacuddy. The league starts this Tuesday (11th) with an away game to Faythe Harriers starting at 6.30 p.m.

Our under-10 team has been playing some great but tough games in the last of their blitzes, travelling to Kilmore and St Anne's. They played brilliant and are really improving as a team. The under-10 league starts on Thursday (13th) with a home game to Cushionstown Gold at 6.30 p.m.

Our under-eights have been training hard and are ready for their first blitz taking place in Gusserane on Sunday the 16th at 11 a.m. It's an exciting time for them as it will be a first blitz for some of them.

UNDERAGE HURLING - Our under-nines and under-11s boys are training hard and improving with every match they play. They have recently played Our Lady's Island/St Fintan's and Glynn-Barntown in the under-11 league and in the under-nine blitz in Our Lady's Island.

ADULT HURLING - Our adult team are training every Wednesday evening. With league matches approaching again. Split-the-pot. Congratulations to Peter McCluskey on winning this week's split-the-pot.

FAB Huggie Bears Childcare Service

FAB offers high quality affordable childcare for children ranging in ages from 15 months to 12 years. We are now taking bookings for September 2019. There are a limited number of places available in our Toddler, Playgroup and Playschool rooms.

We are a TUSLA registered childcare service and we offer the Free Pre-school year, (ECCE), the Community Childcare Subvention (CCS), the Community Education and Training programme (CETS) and the universal childcare subsidy (this is for all children between the age of 15 months and 36 months)
