Bree-Galbally: Christmas Craft Fair - Galbally Sports and Leisure Club Christmas Craft Fair will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2pm to 6pm.

Draughts and Chess

Community Games activities for the coming year are beginning this Tuesday, November 5 with Draughts and Chess classes in Bree Community Centre from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. each Tuesday night. All children from the parishes of Bree, Davidstown and Cloughbawn, under-8 to 15 years welcome. Cost is €2 per child to a max of €5 per family.

Bree Parish Journal

Preparations are under way for this year's edition of Bree Parish Journal. All clubs and organisations in the parish are asked to have a report of their activities over the past two years ready. The committee is also looking for photographs particularly of groups of people from times past, as well as items suitable for publication pertaining to places or people of the area including notable family celebrations. Bingo continues Tuesdays at 9 p.m. in Byrnes of Bree. Books are €10 on the night and €2 bonus sheets are available.

Bree NS Enrolments

Scoil Seosaimh Naofa, Bree are currently seeking expressions of interest for Junior Infant enrolments for September 2020. Indoor Athletics

Indoor athletic training has resumed in Bree Community Centre on Thursdays at 7 p.m. for 5-11 year olds and from 7.45 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Bree Athletic Club members. Cost is €2 per child to max of €5 per family.

Yoga Classes

Yoga Classes continue in Bree Community Centre with Grace Reddington on Thursday mornings from 10.15 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Please bring your own mat. Cost is €10.

County Finalists

Crossabeg-Ballymurn's Intermediate footballers are playing in the county final on Saturday next, November 9, at 2 p.m. The venue has as yet to be decided. Please go out and support our lads.

Ferrycarrig Five Mile Road Race

Leinster medal

Huge congratulations to St Killian's juvenile athlete, Emma McCarthy, who won a well-deserved silver medal at the Leinster Cross County championships which were held in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny on Sunday week last.

Remembrance Mass

A birthday Remembrance Mass for the late Ned Reck, Rocky Road, Midleton, Co Cork (and formerly Monmore, Crossabeg) will be offered up in Crossabeg church on Saturday, November 9, at 2 p.m. Brother of Tom, Pat, Dave and Joe, Betty O'Brien, Annie Quinn, Cathy O'Driscoll, Josie Griffin and Lena Goucher, he was pre-deceased by his parents Paddy and Annie, and his sister Mary Daniel.

School Caretaker

The board of management of St Patrick's National School invites applications for the position of school caretaker (part-time). This position is seven hours per week. The successful applicant must be able to work the hours during the times as agreed by the principal/board of management. Ideally, applicants will have general maintenance and gardening skills, an understanding of caretaking duties and be willing to work cooperatively with school staff and management. Juvenile athletic training

St Killian's AC Indoor juvenile athletic training has resumed in the school in Crossabeg with training from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for boys and girls in first, second and third classes. All older athletes will train from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Training on Thursday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. is only for fourth class athletes and upwards.

Vintage Club news

The Over the Water Vintage Club held a Road Run on Sunday, October 13, This run was to fundraise for the Lourdes Pilgrimage Trust (Group 94 children and young adults). The amount raised was €2,810. The success of that run was due in no small measure to the other Vintage Club members who participated and also to the tremendous local voluntary support which assisted with the catering (food/equipment), sponsorship of prizes, road stewardship and the many other aspects of the Road Runs which ensure their success on and off the road. A sincere thank you to everybody concerned.

Annual Christmas Coffee Day

Annis Kehoe of Slaneylodge, Crossabeg has announced the date for her annual and ever-popular fundraising Coffee Day which will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, December 7, On the day, those attending will be warmly greeted (with a roaring fire) as well as tea or coffee and lovely cakes and buns. This year Annis has again decided that all money raised will go towards the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre development project at Garrywilliam. During the event, there will be lots of tarts, buns, mince pies, Christmas cakes and puddings, jams, vegetables, etc on offer, just in time for Christmas. DanceACTIVE50+ classes take place in Castlebridge hall every Friday afternoon, commencing at 2.30 p.m. These classes are suitable for all levels. It's pay-as-you-go for €10. Gardening Forum

As it is never too early to start thinking about your garden, including vegetables, fruit and flower areas, Castlebridge Show committee are holding a Gardening Forum in Castlebridge community centre on Friday, November 8, at 7.30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend, especially all gardeners and wannabe gardeners. So why not go along and meet and chat with the panel of local garden experts for a night of myths and tips and share your ideas. Admission is free and complimentary tea and coffee will be served.

Development lotto

Results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, October 25. The numbers drawn were 9, 15, 23 and 24. There was no jackpot winner and one match-three winner, Tommy Mahon, c/o Darragh Connor, who received €300. The weekly draw takes place every Sunday night at 9 p.m.

Winners of the partners 45 cards in Hotel Curracloe were Kathleen Lacey and Pat Curran, Previous week's winners were George Murphy and Mary Murphy. Cards continue every Thursday night at 9 p.m. for Christmas turkeys. There is an open draw and all are welcome.

Oylegate

Oylegate Craft Fair 2019

The annual Craft Fair will be held in Oylegate Community Centre on Sunday, November 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables €20 each.

Exhibitors from Oylegate and Glenbrien parish will be given first preference.

A certain number of tables will be assigned for TY students' mini-companies and, again, first preference will be given to students from Oylegate and Glenbrien, who should book before November 8. To book a table, please phone 087 6617527.

GAA club news

Lotto: GAA lotto syndicate winners of €100 for October were Caroline/Michelle Whelan and Patricia Quigley/Browne. Lotto winnings were €141. Next draw is Wednesday, November 27.

Best of luck: Oylegate GAA Club would like to wish Fergal Doran, vice-chair of the GAA club, the very best of luck in his tour of duty in the Lebanon.

Walking Track

The lights will be on at the walking track at the GAA Grounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the facility is available to all in the community, so come along and stay fit over the winter months. The couch to 5k group meet on Wednesday evenings. All welcome to take part.

Baby and Toddler Group
