Clongeen: Memorial Pool Competition - Congratulations to Séamus Bennett, who has just become the winner of the 24th year of the Michael 'Handball' Whelan pool competition that was held in the Oak Tree on New Years day.
It was fitting that on Handball's 25th anniversary that one of his best friends should become the winner for the first time, having participated in the competition every year since it first started back in 1995.
He overcame his brother Peter in the final. Beaten semi-finalists this year were Karl Kehoe and Ger Rooney after almost the full compliment of 32 players started the competition earlier in the day. Next year will be the 25th holding of the event and is planned to be a special one.
In the meantime Séamie has the local bragging rights. It was truly deserved after so many years of participation, well done that man. Congratulations on such a momentous occasion, wear it well!
Please email any articles for publication in the Standard to email@example.com by midday on Friday.
