Crossabeg: Athletics. St Killian's AC juvenile members returned to outdoor training at the local community field at Garrywilliam yesterday evening, September 2 and training will take place every Monday and Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. New members are most welcome. The annual schools marathon has been booked for Wednesday, September 25, Further details at a later stage.

Church-gate collection

A church gate collection in aid of the local Community Games will be taken up this coming Saturday and Sunday, September 7, and eight, at Crossabeg, Ballymurn, Oylegate and Glenbrien churches. Your generous support would be appreciated.

Couch to 5K

A couch to 5k beginners six-week course will start at the Crossabeg-Ballymurn community field at Garrywilliam on Wednesday, September 11, at 7.30.p.m. The group will meet every Wednesday and Friday evening for six weeks. The cost is €60 for the course. Call or text Liam at 087 0635416.

Social dancing

The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, September 8. Music on the night is by Tony Kearney. This is Tony's first visit to Oylegate. Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission €8.

GAA club news

GAA syndicate winners of €100 for August were Jay Shanahan and Dave/Bernie Doyle, lotto winnings were €101 next draw will be September 25.

The club extends deepest sympathy to Peter Nolan and family on the sad passing of Celia. For many years Celia provided first aid to our club teams at various age groups. She was always available to support the club in any way she could and rarely missed games. She was a great friend to many and will be greatly missed, may her kind and gentle soul rest in peace.

Best of luck to the senior hurlers on Saturday evening, September 7, when they play Rathnure at 6 p.m. in Bellefield.

We wish the best of luck to the junior hurlers when they take on Gorey on Friday evening, September 6, at 6.45 p.m. in Gorey.

Pop Up Gaeltacht

There will be a Pop Up Gaeltacht in Mernagh's bar on this Friday, September 6, starting at 9.30 p.m. The idea is for people to meet informally in a relaxed atmosphere and to use whatever bit of Gaeilge they have. No pressure and a bit of craic. Tá fáilte roimh gach duine.

Fleadh Cheoil Winner

Congratulations to talented young musician, Molly Gallagher, daughter of Conal and Linda, Ballinroad, on being awarded second place in piano in the 12- to 15-year-old category, at the recent Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, in Drogheda.

Oulart ICA

The Oulart Guild ICA will resume its meetings and activities on Monday, September 16, following the summer break. New members, of any age, are always welcome to join this most active and progressive group of women.

Community Games Winner

Congratulations to Kayla Doyle-Kavanagh who, representing Castlebridge/Crossabeg Community Games, held at the university of Limerick, won a bronze medal in the all-Ireland under-10,100 metre race. Kayla, daughter of former Oulart-The Ballagh hurler, Andrew came first in her heat and semi-final.

New Stand

Last week the finishing touches were put to the new Stand that the local GAA has erected at the Upper Pitch. Well done to club chairman, Bartle Sinnott, who spear-headed the project and to all who worked to complete the stand to such a high standard. The shelter and comfort that it will provide will be greatly appreciated by spectators and it is another milestone in the ongoing development of the GAA facilities, coming soon after the opening of the astroturf earlier in the year. Parishioners, who generously support the various fundraising initiatives of the club can see how the money raised are being sensibly spent.

District Winners

Oulart-The Ballagh under-20 hurlers won the Roinn 1 Enniscorthy District Final last week by defeating Rapparees by a margin of three points,(two goals 13 points to 16 points). Congratulations to the panel of players and the mentors and good luck in the Co. semi-final.

Under-13 GAA

Oulart-The Ballagh under-13 hurlers and footballers recently won their respective county semi-finals and are preparing for the county final in both codes. The under-13 hurlers defeated Glynn-Barntown, on August 20, on a scoreline of five goals 14 points to two goals three points and will play St Martin's in the Premier county final, in St Patrick's Park, on Saturday, September 7, at 11 a.m. Incidentally, that final pairing will be a repeat of last year's final that was won by Oulart-The Ballagh.

The under-13 footballers who compete in Division 4, defeated Taghmon0Camross on a scoreline of five goals 13 points to two goals six points and will play St Mary's Maudlintown in the county final. Date, venue and time to be announced.

Camogie

The senior group match between St Martin's and Oulart-The Ballagh that was postponed a few weeks ago has been re-fixed and will be played in Oular, under lights, on Saturday, September 7,

This will be the last group match in the championship, before the knock-out stages.

Clothes for Cash

In excess of 1000kg of clothes was donated in response to the camogie club's recent fundraising appeal. Thank you to everyone who supported the effort.

Afternoon Tea-Thank You

Kathleen Laffan would like to express her sincere appreciation to all who supported the Afternoon Tea party at her home a couple of weeks ago. The event which was held in aid of Brighter Communities Worldwide, Kenya was a tremendous success.

Community Playground

A reminder that the Shelmalier GAA playground is open to the public every day till 9 p.m. This is a fantastic state-of-the-art facility and all children are most welcome to drop in and enjoy the experience.

Yoga classes

A six-week yoga course will begin in Castlebridge community centre, beginning on Tuesday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and also on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The fee for the course is €60 or a drop-in fee of €12. Contact 087 4166766 to book your place.

Church-gate collection

The annual patron to Screen cemetery will take place on Sunday, September 15, at 1.30 p.m. This will be followed by the usual fundraising stalls - bottle stall, fruit and vegetables stalls, produce and cakes etc.which will be held in Screen hall.

Bridge Drama Workshop

Shelmalier GAA Club would like to make their community aware of where Defibrillators are placed around the parish. There is one outside on the wall of the clubhouse at Hollymount; inside Castlebridge national school; at the reception area in Hotel Curracloe; inside the clubhouse at Curracloe United AFC and outside Freddies pub in Screen village.

Text Alert

There have been a number of house break ins in the Oylegate area over the past few weeks, two just this week. Parishioners are being asked to be extra vigilant for anything unusual e.g. strange cars, strangers calling to houses with unusual requests. Anything unusual should be reported to the Gardaí.

There is a Community Text which covers the Oylegate and Glenbrien areas. Notification texts with details of any unusual activity/behaviour in the Parishes are sent out to parishioners, whose number is on the text list. If you are not a member of this Community Text and would like to have your number included please contact Eamonn Mernagh.

Baby/Toddler Group

Baby and Toddler Group gathering every Tuesday in Glenbrien Old School Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet. Bingo In Mernaghs

The bingo in Mernaghs is now being run to raise much needed funds for the local Tidy Towns, bingo commences at 9.15 on a Thursday night and all support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Local Link Wexford

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communities of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodate those attending appointments, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An information booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.
