St Killian's senior athletes have been busy of late taking part in a number of road races. Niall Sheil travelled to Kilmacthomas recently to compete in the West Waterford Athletics Club four mile race. Niall had a great run to take the victory in a time of 20 minutes 38 seconds from Noel Murphy and Raivis Zakis. Slaney Olympic Athletic Club hosted their annual 10k race.
The new route was challenging and really well supported with some brilliant national talent on show. St Killian's were well represented with Pádraig Moriarty showing some good form to finish in a time of 39 mins14 seconds in 41st position. Daire Connolly was not far behind in a time of 42 minutes 45 seconds. Deirdre O'Grady had a great run to finish in a time of 55 minutes 19 seconds and it is great to see Gail Kavanagh's commitment being rewarded with her times improving in every race to finish in a time of 57 minutes 09 seconds.
Bobby Redmond's race has gone from strength to strength and again he and his committee did a brilliant job in hosting the Tara Bishop Memorial 5k in Ballymurn. There were nearly 600 people finishing and again St Killian's was really well represented and it was great to see some of our younger members taking up the challenge. Niall took the win with Brian O'Shaughnessy having a strong run to finish in sixth position and Chris McCarthy had a great race and a great battle with Brian O'Shaughnessy but had to settle for eighth place with Pádraig close behind in ninth place. Gail finished in 136th place. Seán McLoughlin finished in 198th place with Pádraig Byrne in 201st. Chloe Reck finished in 214th and Grace Flanagan in 272nd. Billy Reck came in 370th and Bevin Morris in 371st.
There are plenty of local races coming up with the ever popular night runs taking place in Gorey and Wexford over the next couple of weeks with the county championship races in between.
