Crossabeg: Easter Football Camp - Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies' Gaelic Football club are organising an Easter football camp which will take place from April 15 to April 18 in Ballymurn pitch. Two groups will be catered for, five- to seven-year-olds and eight- to 12-year-olds. For further information, please contact Amanda at 086 2007418.

Appreciation

Gorta Self Help Africa would like to thank each and everyone who subscribed to their churchgate collection at Crossabeg and Ballymurn churches last weekend. The amount raised in Ballymurn was €163.18c and in Crossabeg €287. All money raised will go towards helping the flood victims in Malawi.

Back in Opera House

Bridge Drama group have qualified for the RTÉ all-Ireland Drama Festival 2019 to be held in Athlone. As part of their all-Ireland preparations, they are returning to the National Opera House on April 25 and 26 with their award winning play, 'Brighton Beach Memoirs,' by Neil Simon. Tickets are priced at €15 and €12 and are on sale now at nationaloperahouse.ie or phone box office 053 9122144.

Fashion Show

The organising committee of the Fashion show held at Hotel Curracloe on Friday night of last week wish to thank most sincerely all who bought tickets and supported on the night. Thanks also to all the shops and their staff who took part and made the night such a success, to the adult models and in particular to the child models who were fantastic and so confident on the catwalk, all of ye were great.

A special word of thanks to the generous sponsors for the lovely prizes and a special thank you to John Paul and all the staff of the hotel. Prize winners were Pauline Finnerty, Veronica Hore, Dennis Hayes, Ann Thomas, Chloe Murphy, Maureen Murphy, Graham Donohoe, Triona Thomas, Kate Casey and Lily Ryan. All proceeds in aid of Crossabeg parish centre.

ART AND HANDWRITING - Well done to all the boys and girls who competed in the County Art and Handwriting competitions held at Castlebridge national school on Saturday, March 30, A number of medals were won in these high standard events. In the Handwriting competition, a silver medal was won by Sarah Dunne (Castlebridge school) in the under-10 category, a gold medal by Naoimi Pettitt (Crossabeg school) in the under-12 category and a gold also by Charlie Ennis (Screen school) in the under-12 category. Both Naoimi and Charlie will contest the national finals in Limerick in May.

In the art competition, a silver medal was won by Cristina Lowney-Lowry (Crossabeg school) in the under-eight category; a bronze by Fionan Caulfied (Crossabeg school) in the under-eight category; a bronze by Sarah Dunne (Castlebridge school) in the under-10 category; a silver by Eabha Bowe (Crossabeg school) in the under-12 category; a bronze medal by Tadhg Brophy (Glenbrien school) in the under-12 category; a silver by Kazetan Knezek (Castlebridge school) in the under-14 category and a bronze by Niall Byrne (Oylegate school) in the under-14 boys category. Well done one and all.

The County Swimming finals take place at Enniscorthy pool on Wednesday, April 17, Warm up at 5 p.m. and the events under way at approximately 5.15 p.m. Individual one wall Handball (for boys and girls' under-13 and 16) are being taken. Closing date for receipt of entries is April 15 Projects and Model Making competitions in Ballycullane on April 23 Contact 086 1980775 for further information.

The Over the Water Vintage Club are holding a Tractor and Car Road Run on Sunday, April 14, All money raised will go to assist with alterations for disability access in the home of a local Curracloe MS sufferer. The run begins in Screen village at 12.30 p.m. The committee look forward to your support for this very worthwhile local cause.

Curracloe school news

Curracloe national school are so excited about their Easter Egg Hunt which will take place on Friday next, April 12th. Thanks to the Parents Association for providing the Easter treats. Fifth and sixth class pupils will be taking part in a Tennis Round Robin competition tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10th. April. Thanks to Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club for the use of their facilities. Well done to the Student Council who raised €133.30c for their "Coppers for Cancer" initiative.

Congratulations to recent split-the-pot winner Mary Curran, who won €92. Thanks to all for the continued support. The next draw takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10, bingo is now finished for this season. Many thanks to all who attended and supported every week.

Fifth and sixth class pupils have submitted their Junior Entrepreneur Project after lots of hard work over the last few months. They made 400% profit. Well done and thanks again to all who supported their efforts.

Easter Cards

Please note the grand final of the partners 45 cards in Hotel Curracloe will be held this Thursday, April 11th at 8.30 p.m.sharp. You must have played 6 nights to qualify for the grand final. Recent winners of the cards were Mary Doyle and Donal O' Leary, Mag Griffith and Mary J Whelan. Recent Bingo winner was Chrissie Keane.

Junior Feile

There was ceol agus craic go leor in Carrick-on-Bannow on Sunday, March 24, where the children from Curracloe Music Group took part in the Junior Féile.

The Junior Féile is run by Bannow Music group and offers competitions to all Junior musicians across the county in traditional music, singing and lilting. The following children from Curracloe Music Group were among the medal winners, Mia Doyle (1st place U7 Tin Whistle, also 1st place U8 Duet with Ciara Broderick and 1st U8 Trio with Ciara Broderick and Kate Power) Gearóid Moran (2nd place U8 Lilting and 3rd place U8 Singing ) Ciara Broderick (2nd place U8 Tin Whistle) Sorcha O'Doherty (3rd place U8 Tin Whistle also 2nd place U8 Duet with Charlotte Stafford and 3rd place U8 Trio with Charlotte Stafford and Megan Ryan) Dylan Redmond (1st place U10 individual concertina) Eilís Moran & Lucy McCormack (1st place U10 Duet) Elliot Dunlea-Duffy & Molly Howlin (3rd place U10 Duet) Seán Redmond (1st place U12 button accordion).

The number of medal winners is testament to all the hard work put in by the children and their music teachers Martha and Marie Torpey. A number of the children will now go on to perform at the County Fleadh in Ferns in May.

Active Retired

At a recent meeting of the Ballagh Active Retirement Group a calendar of events for 2019 was drawn up, including a Mid-Week Getaway to Racket Hall Country House Hotel, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, from June 17 to June 20. The all-inclusive price of €235 includes three nights dinner, bed and Breakfast, return Coach travel from the Ballagh, two Day Coach tours to places of interest in the surrounding area and Evening Entertainment.

Bingo for Community Centre

The Ballagh Community Centre will hold a fundraising bingo on Saturday, April 20, at 8 p.m. This bingo session is to help towards the upkeep and maintenance of the local Community Centre that is such a vitally important facility in the parish.

Choir for Easter

Rehearsals for Easter Saturday Night Mass (April 20) are under way on Monday nights at 7.30 p.m.

Defibrillator

The Ballagh Community Centre obtained a grant of €3,000 to buy a defibrillator for the area. It has been erected on the Parochial House.

The number for the code on the box can be obtained from Ger Dempsey (086 14784 84) or Pauline Davitt (087 6864594).Training in how to use the defibrillator will be available shortly, in the community centre.
