Glynn-Barntown: Christmas Appeal - The annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal takes place in Glynn and Barntown churches after all Masses on the weekend of December 7/8 2019. All money collected in our parish stays local, to help those most in need. Your support would be generously received.

Killurin Rowing Club

Table quiz in Marty's Pub in Killurin on Friday, December 6, start time 9 p.m. Raffle and quiz prizes. Table of four for €40. Owing to the success of last year's event, we will be hosting another 'Little Christmas' tea party and cake sale after Mass on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

Glynn Community Hall

Join us at our Christmas Bazaar after 10 o'clock Mass on Sunday, December 15. All the usual novelties including wreaths, cake stall, bottle stall, bric-à-brac, toys etc. There's something for everyone in the family. See you there.

Glynn NS news

We were delighted to have four cups in the school last Thursday. Glynn-Barntown Junior footballers visited with the cup they won recently. They brought with them the Leinster Senior and minor hurling cups and all the children got to see them up close. Of course we were also celebrating the boys victory in the mini sevens for the first time in the school's history.

Calendar: Alan Roche Photography is producing a 2020 calendar with 50% of the profits going to to support the school development fund again this year. Last year's calendar was an enormous success so we hope you will support it again this year. The calendar is a high quality, ringbound A3 size, with photos from Glynn and the surrounding areas. A copy is also available to view on Alan's Facebook page (Alan Roche Photography). In order to gauge how many calendars we need to order, please fill in the expression of interest form, and hand back into the school office or contact Aisling at 086 4034597. The cost of the calendar will be €10 payable on collection.

Clothing Collection: Please donate your unwanted items of clothing to raise funds for Glynn NS Development Fund. Please drop off items before 10 a.m. to Glynn Hall on Monday, December 9. We accept all re-usable, re-wearable clothing, shoes, coats, bags, sheets, blankets, towels and soft toys. We cannot accept duvets or pillows. Thank you for your support.

Camogie

Our next camogie disco will take place on Friday, December 6, 8.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for first and second years only. Admission by ticket only. Tickets at €5 will be on sale on Saturday, November 30, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the clubhouse or text 087 7858641 AFTER 7 p.m.

SANTA AT THE CLUBHOUSE - We are delighted to announce that Santa has agreed to visit Glynn-Barntown GAA Clubhouse on Sunday, December 15, from 4.30 p.m. Prices and further details soon.

Coiste na nÓg

The Coiste na nÓg AGM took place recently. We welcome new Coiste chairperson Conor Kavanagh and his new committee to their roles and thank outgoing committee and in particular outgoing chairperson Iain Wickham for his hard work over the last two years.

Badminton

Badminton continues in the community centre every Monday and Thursday night at 7 p.m. All levels from Beginners to Advanced players are welcome. Play for fun, or be competitive, the choice is yours. All equipment provided. See you there.

Barntown Heritage Group

Barntown Heritage Group is over the moon having recently received Joint second prize, Best New Entrant category, in the Wexford County Council Keep Wexford Beautiful Awards. We extend a huge thank you to all volunteers in the community who have helped keep Barntown beautiful during 2019 and always.

Christmas cards

In celebration of Barntown, Barntown Heritage Group has created Christmas Cards with festive images of the village area and stonework sign. Cards for sale, contact Mary Louise at 087 1489445. All proceeds towards Barntown Heritage Group projects in the community.

Church news

BAMBINELLI SUNDAY - An invitation will go to each child in the parish to bring the figure of the baby Jesus from their crib to weekend Masses to have Him blessed before Christmas. An olive wood Christmas tree decoration - which was blessed by Fr Carroll at Mass in Bethlehem recently - will be given to each child at the Mass. Festive gatherings are planned for both Glynn and Barntown after the 10 a.m. and 11.15 a.m. Masses on the day (December 15). Parents and grandparents are invited to begin discussion of the celebration with their children and grandchildren.

Well Dance and Movement (for seniors)

Following on from a successful coffee morning held by Barntown Community Centre recently, an exciting new activity has commenced, for the more senior members of our community. You are invited to join Saoirse, for a session of 'Well Dance and Movement' at 11 a.m. next Tuesday, December 3 (and every Tuesday) in Barntown Community Centre. Combining Music and Movement is a recipe to feeling wonderful.

This class will guide you through a some simple, gentle, modern dance movements and exercises to music, which help to improve balance, fluidity, flexibility and strength. Saoirse is a recent graduate from Inchicore College of dance and has also completed her first year of Exercise and Fitness Training with university of Limerick. Don't miss out - get to the session - €5 per class - and yes, there will be chairs to take a breather.

Dancing at Camross

Shane Moore will have all our dancing friends 'tripping the light fantastic' at our December dance which will be held in Camross Ballroom on Friday, December 6. The free draw continues for December and January, with the Grand Draw for monetary prizes plus more being held on Friday, January 3. Dancing 9.30 p.m. till late, admission €10 including the tea.

Taghmon ICA held its last meeting on November 20 in Scout Hall. President Mary Noonan opened the meeting. Sympathy was extended to Nuala Carroll on the death of her sister. Next Federation mtg, Riverbank Hotel, November 25. Comp; Arrangement of autumn Leaves. Proceeds of Sept ICA walk will be presented at Federation mtg. Celebration of ICA 120 Years in Whites Hotel on February 9, 2020, places to be booked at Federation mtg.

Membership Fees due at Dec mtg. Raffle was won by Eithne Magee. Competition; Nicest leaf was won by Mary Monaghan. Nicest pair of Slippers won by Josephine Grennan, all slippers donated to Women's Refuge.

Our Christmas dinner will be in Greenacres, Nov.27th at 6 p.m.

Ann O'Gorman, Nutritionist, Natural Health Store, Wexford, gave a very interesting and informative talk on importance of balanced diet to help achieve optimal health, she also mentioned that supplements may be necessary at times.

Next Guild meeting is on Monday, December 9 at 7.30 p.m. Pauline Kehoe will give a demonstration on Christmas Flower Arranging, Visitors welcome. Comp; Nicest sprig holly.

Meeting ended with a nice cup of tea served by Mary Noonan.

GAA club notes

A poker night (five card and Texas hold 'em) will take place at the community centre on Friday, December 6, at 8 p.m. Entry will cost €20 and there will be door prize and cash prizes totaling €800.

The lotto jackpot wasn't won again last Tuesday night. The jackpot will remain at €14,000 till we get a winner but the reserve jackpot will keep going up while we wait. It's now up to €4,700. Please encourage any family or friends living away from the area to support the draw through the online Taghmon-Camross page on the KlubFunder website. The deadline for online sales is at 6.30 on draw night and the minimum spend on the online system is €6. Tickets can also be bought from usual outlets.

Bree AC News Bree AC AGM will take place in Bree Community Centre on this Thursday, December 5, at 7.30 p.m. This is our 50th AGM. Indoor Athletic Training has ceased for the younger age groups till the new year.

St Vincent de Paul Collection

The annual St Vincent de Paul Collection will take place next Saturday and Sunday, December 7/8. The collection will be in the church Porch after Mass in Bree, Galbally, and Ballyhogue. All support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. All money collected in the Enniscorthy district are used in the area.

Galbally NS Christmas Concert

The children of Scoil Eoin Baiste will be hosting a Variety show on Thursday, December 12, in the Sports Hall in Galbally, featuring Oliver the Musical, a Nativity Play by the Junior Room and a host of other variety acts. Please come along to a guaranteed night of entertainment. Monster raffle on the night. All support greatly welcomed.

Senior citizens Tea Party

Bree Macra is hosting a Bree senior citizens Afternoon Tea Party on Sunday, January 5, 2020, from two to 4.30 p.m. All senior citizens living in the parish of Bree are invited to join them for an afternoon of tea, treats, chats, entertainment and festive fun. Ballyhogue GAA lotto

John and Walter Crean, Ballyhogue were the winners of the jackpot in the recent Ballyhogue lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 1, 5, 9 and 13. Match-three winners Gerald and Cathy Dunne, Thomas Butler, Dan and Geraldine McCarthy, Lorraine and Tom Ryan, Fintan Doyle, Nicola Cosgrove, Liam Curtis, Graham Parker, Charles Parnell, Tom and Mary Egan. Christmas Craft Fair

Enniscorthy Group of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust are holding a Christmas Craft Fair to help raise funds to bring children and young adults from around the local area to Lourdes at Easter. St Stephen's Day Fun Run/Walk

The time to dust down the runners is approaching in time for Galbally's 'overindulgence' festive run, walk, trot or pram push. Galbally Sports and Leisure Club will host a 5k fun run/walk on St Stephen's Day, December 26. The event will begin at midday, with registration taking place from 11.30 a.m. onwards. Entry fee is €5 for adults, €10 for a family. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. Everyone is invited to come along and get involved in what promises to be a fun community event.

Bree Parish Journal

Preparations are under way for this year's edition of Bree Parish Journal. All clubs and organisations in the parish should have a report of their activities over the past two years already submitted.

The committee would like all those who have been married for 50 years or more and have not already been included in the journal to contact them asap. The committee is also looking for photographs particularly of groups of people from times past as well as items suitable for publication, pertaining to places or people of the area including notable family celebrations.

Draughts and Chess

Draughts and Chess classes take place in Bree Community Centre from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. All children from the parishes of Bree, Davidstown and Cloughbawn under-eight to 15 years are welcome to come along. Cost is €2 per child to a max of €5 per family.

Bree Bingo

Bingo continues Tuesdays at 9 p.m. in Byrnes of Bree. Books are €10 on the night and €2 bonus sheets are available.
