Kilmore: Active Retirement news - Kilmore Active Retirement Association held its final meeting before the summer recess on Thursday last in the GAA clubrooms with a good attendance present, Tom Dunne chairman presided.

Reports of events during the previous month were dealt with including a very successful and enjoyable outing to the 1798 Centre and Wells House. The walk fixed for the previous Tuesday was called off due to a very wet day, but will be re-fixed.

The next outing is on Wednesday, June 19, to Duncannon Forth for a tour, then on to Tintern Abbey also for a tour and finishing up with dinner in the evening. All meet in Kilmore car park at 10.30 a.m. Booking should be made immediately to Margaret Byrne if you wish to travel.

Other meetings and events were discussed from correspondence received and delegates appointed to attend where necessary. The social committee will arrange other day trips or outings during the summer months and these will be advertised and texts sent to members. The chairman wished everyone all the best for the summer season and we will reconvene in September.

Annual Rosary Relay

The 10th Anniversary of the Worldpriest annual Global Rosary Relay for priests will take place in church of the Assumption, Our Lady's Island on Friday, June 28, at 8 p.m.(please be seated by 7.45 p.m.) All are welcome to join in this world prayer for priests.

Ordination

Congratulations to Ricky O'Connor, Lakeside, who will be ordained to the Priesthood in church of the Assumption, Our Lady's Island on Sunday next at 3 p.m. All are welcome to the church. We wish Ricky every blessing in his future life.

Model County Draw

Our Lady's Island GAA club are currently selling tickets for the final Model County Draw which will take place on Wednesday, June 26. We've had two winners in the first two draws, Johnnie Cheevers and Vincent Power, who won €150 each. Tickets for the final draw are €10 each, worth a chance for some fantastic prizes, including a car as first prize. Tickets available from Julie Pettit or Nicky White. Many thanks to all who have supported the sale of tickets so far.

Gary Dickson Memorial Service

A service will be held on Sunday, June 16, at 2 p.m. in St Peter's Church, Kilscoran in memory of Gary Dickson. Gary, eldest son of Fred and Flo Dickson, brother os Melissa and Nigel, passed away in February in Australia.

GAA Bingo

The GAA bingo continues every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. in OLI Community Centre. The jackpot stands at €650. Come along and try your luck.

Three of our athletes qualified for the all-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships which were held last Saturday, June 1, in Tullamore. Gergely Pap representing the CBS Wexford won his Intermediate Shot Put and was second in the Discus, Erin Van Straaten from Bridgetown College was second in the Senior Shot Put and Maeve Hayes Loreto Wexford was sixth in the Senior Long Jump and eighth in the High Jump. Congratulations and well done to all three, it is a great achievement to be competing in these championships.

Congratulations also to Jenny Higgins, who was third in the 3000m in the Leinster Senior Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

Best of luck to Catherine O'leary, Matej Sumec, Artem Kelly, Elijah Page Redmond and Lucas Page Redmond, who are travelling to Tullamore on Saturday, June 8, for the Leinster under-12 to under-13 and Pairs Championships and also to all our young athletes who are taking part in the Inter Schools Sports Day on Wednesday, June 11, at the track in Rosslare.

Our under-8s continue to train hard. They are getting ready for a blitz in Gusserane next Sunday. Best of luck, girls.

The under-12s played in a blitz last week and lost out in two really close encounters. The team played really well in both games and were very unlucky to be beaten by Rathnure and Raparees.

The under-10s played in a blitz in Rathangan and won all three of their matches. The girls defeated St Anne's A, St Anne's B and St Martin's. Well done, girls.

Field Day 2019

Our annual field day will take place on Sunday, July 28. There are a limited number of spaces for smaller stalls available if you would like to book for this year's event. Contact Rosslare Community Centre at 053 9132202.

Summer Events 2019

Summer holidays are just round the corner and as always, we have a fun-packed schedule in place for your enjoyment and entertainment.

Old favourites such as the Teddy Bears Picnic, Puppet show, summer Camp, and the annual Beach party make a welcome return, and the very popular Family Bingo evenings are back throughout July and August. We are also introducing a number of new events this year; workshops by the Nutty Scientists and the Bricks4Kidz team will be in action at the centre.

Rosslare Youth Club

Youth club is now on holiday till September. A training date for leaders has been arraigned on June 25 and will take place in Rosslare. Please contact Rosslare Youth Club via their Facebook page for more information.

Swim Week/Water Safety Week

Swim Week and Water Safety Week is on from July 8 to July 13. Meet at main entrance of Rosslare Beach. Registration will be on Sunday, July 7. Time and place to be confirmed closer to the date.

Active Retirement

Our next outing to the Botanic Gardens and Glasnevin Cemetery takes place on July 4. Cost €50 to include coach, guided tours and evening meal. Names will be taken on June 4 for this trip and should be paid in full the following meeting on June 18. Non-members welcome, for enquiries please ring 086 1917190. We look forward to seeing our members at the next two meetings as they will be the last meetings till we reopen in September.

Looks like summer is finally on its way - wny not mark the occasion with one (or five) additions to your summer wardrobe. Some lovely new and almost new spring/summer clothing currently in stock. We are open from Monday to Saturday 10 - five and offer a wide range of clothing, bric-à-brac and small household goods. Good quality donations are always welcome; any out of hours contributions can be handed into the community centre.
