Ballycogley Players

We launched our 2019/2020 drama season last Friday evening in Tomhaggard Social Centre and a great night was had by all. We would like to thank author, Cat Hogan for being our guest of honour on the night. The casts of our one-act plays are putting the finishing touches to their productions ahead of their performances in the next few weeks.

Dates as follows: St Michael's SVP Hall, Thomas St, Wexford Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 25/26/27, Our Lady's Island Community Centre Saturday, November 2, Ballycogley Hall Saturday, November 9, and Carrig-on-Bannow Community Centre Sunday, November 10.

RNLI Fish Supper

Our annual fish supper will be healed in Coast Hotel Rosslare strand on February 2 food will be severed from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. a selection of fish dishes will be available Tickets €15 which includes a fish supper and entertainment by borderline. There will also be a courtesy bus available for anyone looking a lift home. Active Retirement Group

Great Southern Reunion

In 1969 the Great Southern Hotel, Rosslare opened its doors for the first time. To celebrate this occasion a few of us have got together to organise a 50th Staff Reunion. We would love if you could join us in Hotel Rosslare on Saturday, November 9, at 8.30 p.m. The evening begins with a 'Welcome Prosecco Reception' on arrival followed by Finger Food and music in the bar with a few surprises along the way. Please help us spread the word to make it a memorable event.

Dementia Evening

An event focusing on dementia awareness, 'Making our Community Dementia Friendly' will be held at Rosslare Community Centre (Fort Room) on Tuesday, October 15, at 7 p.m. Guest speaker for the evening is Joan Fitzpatrick, Senior Occupational Therapist and Dementia specialist. The presentation is aimed at local businesses and services, community groups, people living with dementia and their caregivers - all interested parties are most welcome. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served during the evening.

Befriending Group

We are currently seeking volunteers to act as befrienders. Volunteers have found it to be a hugely enriching experience, as beneficial to their own wellbeing as that of the people visited. If you think you might have an hour or so to contribute every week, please consider becoming a Befriender. To find out more, call us at 085 8526866.

The annual general meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, in community and Sports Centre, Rosslare.

Festival Concert

An evening of Irish and Scottish music presented by Wexford Folk Orchestra will be held at the Riverbank House Hotel on Thursday, October 31, at 8 p.m. Admission at door €12.

Bible studies evening

A Bible studies evening will be held each Wednesday in October at Rosslare Community Centre (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.). The evening will involve discussion in an informal and friendly setting. For more information contact Avril or Jenita at 086 6627681.

Sound Therapy

We are having a Taster Evening on Tuesday, October 22, at 7 p.m. Come and meet Caroline Flynn, qualified Sound Therapist, who will introduce you to the practice. Sound therapy is used to alleviate stress, promote clarity of mind and alleviate muscle tension. If you would like to participate, please bring along a yoga mat, blankets, cushion/pillow and water. Admission free - voluntary donations welcome on the evening.

Halloween Soccer Academy Camp

A Halloween Soccer Academy Camp will be held at Rosslare Community Centre from October 30 to November 1 (10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Suitable for children aged 5-13 years. Total cost for the course is €60 to include an Umbro ½ zip.

Sewing Course

Is your sewing machine lying unloved and unused in a corner of the press? Why not dust it off and put it back to work?

Our new sewing course will cover all the basic set up, maintenance and operational aspects of the machine, and the aim is to produce a lovely piece of work which would make an ideal Christmas gift. The course starts on Monday, November 4, from 10.30 p.m. to 1 p.m. and will run for a total of seven weeks.

Total cost is €120. Pre-booking is essential and a place can be secured with a €20 cash deposit. Contact Rosslare Community Centre on 9132202.

Walking Football

Walking Football is played every Tuesday at the centre (11 a.m. to midday). All age groups and fitness levels are very welcome, with the emphasis on enjoyment, and of course the post-match analysis over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. €2 per person per week. Rosslare Active Retirement

Our coffee mornings continue each Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. in Coast Hotel. A members meeting was held at the last coffee morning.

It was announced that our next outing is planned for Wednesday, November 20, when we travel to Dublin to visit Dáil Éireann and the Epic Centre. A meal is booked on the return journey in the Ashdown Park Hotel. This should be a lovely day out and so far we have about 20 names down. The cost of the outing is €50, which will include admission to the Epic Centre, the coach and the meal. The money should be paid on or before Tuesday, October 22.

Before then a good number have booked for the Hits from the Musicals which is planned for Thursday, October 31. This show has been excellent and is booked up every year so we are looking forward to a good night out.

It was also mentioned that we will travel to Johnstown Castle for a guided tour of the castle in January and we will have our annual lunch in Kelly's Hotel on Thursday, February 20, 2020.

More news on future events at our next meeting which will be Tuesday, November 5, or at our weekly coffee mornings which are open to all and we hope to see some new members joining our group.

Course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to use internet and email safely, how to make video calls, how to pay motor tax online, pay your bills online or order your shopping to be delivered online. St Mary's camogie

Well done to our amazing under-eights who played their final blitz of the season. They played matches against Clongeen, Bannow-Ballymitty and Adamstown. After a slow start the girls came fighting back and gave a brilliant account of themselves, losing one match and winning the other two. The girls showed super team work and skills. We are so proud of the performance they put in. Kidz Camp is back on Saturday mornings in Tagoat from 10.11 a.m. For boys and girls aged 4-6. New members most welcome.
