MINOR HURLING RESULT - Monday, March 18 - St Mary's Rosslare 3-11 Bannow-Ballymitty 2-7. In blustery conditions on a soft pitch in Tagoat our minor hurlers opened their 2019 hurling campaign with a seven point win over Bannow-Ballymitty.
Rosslare started well and opened their scoring early with a goal coming from midfielder Reece de la Cour, followed by a point from a free coming from centre back Cian Byrne and a Tadhg Brohan point from play. This settled Rosslare early in the first half and it wouldn't be long before Brohan hit the net after a well worked move saw him getting Rosslare's second goal. However, it was Bannow, who finished the half stronger leading the home side by two points on a 2-2 to 2-4 score line at half time.
The second half was nip and tuck stuff with the teams evenly matched. However, in the final quarter Rosslare kicked on with six points coming from Cian Byrne, two from Reece de la Cour and one from Tadhg Brohan. The victory was sealed with a late goal coming from mid fielder Jack Meyler. Bannow did pile on the pressure towards the end but the Rosslare defence held strong to secure a win and full points in their opening game of the 2019 hurling campaign.
Team and scorers: Finn O'Donoghue, Tadhg Hayes, Rian Doyle, Nathan Whitehead, Alex Mulvihill, Cian Byrne (0-7), Ryan Culleton, Reece de la Cour (1-2), Jack Meyler (1-0), Danny Holden, Rian Stafford, Ollie Gould, William Ling, Morgan Lawrence and Tadhg Brohan (1-2). Subs: Milan Kovacs for Gould, Danny Howlin for Lawrence, Shane Fortune for Whitehead and Conor Murphy for Ling. Next match March 31 away to Geraldine O'Hanrahans at 11 a.m. Football.
Our under-14 Football Féile team played three matches on March 18. They played Sarsfields, St James and Fethard. They did very well in all games being very competitive against high standard teams.
Our adult hurling team had their first outing in the league against St Martin's. we had a go turn out. Sadly St Martin's were too strong and won 1-18 to 13 points.
Adult team next match is March 23 Football league against St Joseph's and then our first championship match against Ballyhogue March 31.
