Awards night for young swimmers
Members of Wexford Swimming Club celebrated a successful year at an awards night and barbecue in Piercestown Scout Hall.
The club's swimmers took part in no less than 38 galas offering some members their first taste of competitions from local round robins to Irish Summer Nationals.
Six members attained qualifying times to attend the Swansea Aquatics Centenary Gala in Wales and travelled as the South Leinster Squad which included members from New Ross, Slaney Sharks and Courtown Swim Clubs, enjoying three days of competition and bringing home medals.
At the awards barbecue, prizes were presented to the best girl and boy of each squad as well as runners-up, based on swimming and also their land training efforts; swimmer of the year (Stuart Vaughan); most achievements (Róisín Lawless); most improved (Eve O'Hanlon) and junior and senior water polo player of the year, George Lucut and Ciaran Dunne, respectively.
The club has welcomed new head coach John Murray who comes with vast experience over 15 years in training and competitions.
John who hails from a family of swimmers, is a former international polo player and has previously coached clubs including Asgard, St. Fiacc's and Titans .
He will be responsible for the development of all squads right up to the club's high performance squad.
'There are exciting times ahead for the club. We look forward to having John on board to advance the swimmers and the club', said secretary Sandrine Pac-Kenny.
