SCRAP SATURDAY

Gather up all your unwanted metal objects and bring them to the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre Field on Saturday 24th May from 10am – 4pm. All proceeds will go towards the field development.

VINTAGE NEWS

The Over the Water Vintage Club are organising a bus trip to Moynalty All Ireland Vintage Rally on Sunday 11thAugust. BREE/GALBALLY

VINTAGE TRACTOR RUN

The Annual Galbally Tractor and Vintage Run will take place next Sunday 26th May, commencing with registration at 11.30am in Galbally and the run commences at 1 pm. Refreshments will be served in the Community Centre.

All proceeds in aid of the Galbally Restoration Fund. All support would be greatly appreciated.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

Bree Parents Association are holding their second New & Used Clothing Collection on Tuesday 28th May. The drop off point is in the Bree Community Hall on: Monday evening 27th May from 7- 10pm (in conjunction with a Coffee Evening), Tuesday morning 28th May from 8:30–10am. ATHLETIC FINALS

The Bree / Davidstown Community Games Athletic Finals take place in Bree on Thursday 30th May. Registration for all athletes is at 6pm with a 6.30pm sharp start for U10 Hurdles then sprints for Preschool children to U16. Athletes must be underage from 1st August 2013 eg an athlete must not be 8 before 1st August 2013 to run U8. Admission is €2 per athlete.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Best wishes to all those from the Bree Davidstown Area competing in the National Finals in Athlone this weekend. Annalise Crean competes in the U14 Cross Country, Sarah Byrne, Rachel Long, Peter Kelly and Oscar Hayre compete in the U14 Debating and Abi Cullen, Holly Furlong, Tadhg Malone, Caoimhe Byrne, Ciara Byrne, Alanna Malone, Sarah Byrne and Barry Nolan compete in the Swimming Finals.

RESTORATION DRAW

Ava Dempsey was the €50 winner in the recent Galbally Restoration Fund Draw. Mylie Carberry and Sheila Doyle each won €25.

LADIES FOOTBALL

The Minor team played a home game against Crossabeg/Ballymurn recently and had a good win on a score of 6.9 to 3.8.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

On Sunday, 26th May for Scoil Mhuire pupils at the 10.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. Masses. Congratulations to the Kennedy Park School children who make their First Holy Communion this Sunday, 19th May.

WEXARA NOTES

The next monthly meeting will be held in Clonard, on Wednesday, 29th May, at 2.30 p.m.

Forthcoming Events: The May lunch will be held in the Riverbank House Hotel on Wednesday, 22nd May, at 12.30 p.m. The June lunch will be in Kelly's Hotel, Rosslare, on Wednesday, 19th June at 12.30 p.m. Names will be taken at the meeting on 29th May.

Final details for the 4th July Garden Party, organised by South Eastern Region ARA, in the Ferrycarrig Hotel, will be given at the meeting on 29th May. There will be a buffet lunch, followed by music and dancing from 12 noon to 7.00 p.m.

Fancy a day at the Races/ South Eastern Region ARA is organising a day out at Gowran Park races on Sunday, 23rd June. The race meeting will start at 1.00 p.m. The price, of €30, will include admission, race card and lunch in the Rooftop Restaurant. Glenbrien Parents Association will hold the annual Family Funday on Sunday 30th of June in the Holy Family School and grounds. If you have any items you would like to donate Books etc, please leave them in the school any day during school times. Thank you the P.A.

STORY TELLING GROUP

Winners of the last song story and music session were Jim Roche Tombrick, Laurance Fortune Kilkenny Mary Mernagh Glenbrien, Mick Murphy Crossabeg, Laurance Fortune Kilkenny Phil Powers Wexford. The next session will take place on 22nd May at 8pm in Mac Cormacks Bar. Please come along and enjoy the evening, bring your songs, music or stories, or just sit and enjoy the evening. All are welcome tea and refreshments will be served and addmission is free.

MUSIC & SONG

Monday 27th May is the Anniversary of The Battle of Oulart Hill that was fought and won by the rebels on Whit Sunday, 27th May 1798. To commemorate this historic event the annual evening of music and song will take place, on Monday 27th, at the Tulach a tSolais Monument on Oulart Hill, 7.30pm-9pm. All are welcome to attend. Musicians and singers, adults and children (accompanied by parent/guardian) are cordially invited to attend to remember and pay tribute to those who gallantly fought for freedom when "they rose in dark and evil days, to free our native land". A word of advice to all-warm clothes are advised!

PANTOMIME A.G.M.

Oulart Pantomime Society will hold its Annual General Meeting in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday 22nd May, beginning at 8pm. New members are welcome to attend.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

There will be a Church Gate Collection in aid of Autism, in Oulart and The Ballagh on the last weekend of May, 25th/26th. Your generous support is anticipated.

SCHOOL TOURS

It is that time of the year when pupils of Scoil Mochua embark on their annual school tours. The Infants are travelling to Blackwater Farm on 11th June. First and Second classes will journey to Dublin Zoo on 18th June while Third and Fourth classes will visit the Zoo on the following day. Fifth and Sixth classes are being very adventurous and will jtravel to Surf School, Tramore on 20th June.

BALLAGH YOUTH CLUB

Following a very successful year, The Ballagh Youth Club will hold its last session before the summer break, on Friday 24th May 8pm-10pm. All members, committee, parents, leaders etc are invited to attend this Friday night when an-end-of-season party will be held.

The Youth Club would like to thank The Ballagh Community Centre for the use of their premises during the year and they really appreciate all the support that they received from members of the community, parents/leaders etc.

Youth Club activities will recommence on the first Friday of September. In the meantime all are wished a happy, safe and enjoyable summer vacation.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Paul Fitzgerald, Cathal Kenny, Yaw Aboagye and Murtha Doyle who were on the St. Cormac's U-15 team which claimed the league and cup double last week. Their team overwhelmed Wexford Albion by 6-0 with Cathal scoring a fine goal and man-of-the-match, Murtha Doyle racking up a hat-trick. This multi-talented sportsman has also collected an U-16 league medal recently and the two teams were helped on their way to victory by the expert guidance and training of local man Jason Kenny.

OVER THE WATER

DRAMA SUCCESS

Bridge Drama group are very proud of Pat Whelan, who last weekend received the prestigious 'Best Director' award at the RTE All-Ireland drama festival in Athlone. The Bridge Drama contingent raised the roof when the award was announced at a glittering ceremony in The Radisson hotel in Athlone. This is a remarkable achievement for Pat in his debut at the All-Ireland. The play, 'Out of Order' was very well-received by both the cognoscenti in The Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone and by the adjudicator. They came away from Athlone happy that Bridge Drama had made its mark at its first open All-Ireland appearance.It's that time of year again.

TIDY VILLAGE

Curracloe Tidy Village committee are meeting up on Wednesday, May 22. The plan is to plant up any beds, weed, spray, clean around, trim back and anything else that needs to be done. If you are free and would like to join them, they meet up at Curracloe national school at 6.30 p.m.

WALKING CLUB

The Shelmalier walking club meet on Sunday, May 26 at the GAA complex at 9 a.m to travel and to enjoy the Thomastown to Inistioge walk. All are welcome and all fitness levels. Contact Denise on dfeeney704@gmail.com. for further information.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Lady Luck did not come the way of the Shelmalier Ladies football club over the past week. The U16 team were defeated 7-8 to 0-1 by a very strong Ballyhogue team and the minors were defeated by Kilmore in the first round of the minor championship 5-13 to 1-8. Good Luck to the Senior team who travel to play Ballyboden St.Endas (Dublin) on Friday, May 24 in the third round of the Leinster League.

The club was well represented on the U21 County team when they played Dublin on Saturday, May 18 in the Inaugural U21 Aisling McGing championship with Shauna Murphy, Clara Donnelly, Kellie Kearney, Eleanor Neville, Ciara Neville and Aine Lacey involved. Billy Donnelly and Noel Holohan were joint managers. The U-1 team travel to play Laois on Saturday next, May 25.

Congratulations to club member and Wexford senior player Maeve Quill who has been selected on the Tesco HomeGrown Division 3 team of the League 2013. The team of the League will be announced at a function in Croke Park on Thursday, May 30.

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

The Parents Association would like to thank all who donated bags of clothes for the recent collection, which was a great success and raised €540 for the school.

Well done to Rebecca Fanning who won a silver medal and to all the children who took part in the recent Primary schools athletics held in Bree.

The boys and girls continue to represent the school well in the Rackard League hurling and camogie competitions.

The children from second class received their First Holy Communion at a beautiful ceremony at St. Margaret's church on Saturday, May 11. Well done to all the recipients, the choir, Mrs. Burke, Mrs.Torpey, Noreen Hearne and Mr. Pat Hackett. Thanks to the Parents Association who organised and provided refreshments in the school after the ceremony for the children and their families.

SCREEN SCHOOL NEWS

Congratulations to all 12 students who received their First Holy Communion on Saturday last. Thanks to all the children who sang beautifully on the day and to all who helped with refreshments afterwards.

A reminder that the school will be closed on Friday, May 31 and also on Monday, June 3. The family fun fundraising will continue for the final month and if you have not held your gathering yet, you still have time.

GAA NEWS

The Shels hurling forwards were on fire last weekend when amassing a total of 10 goals and 46 points in both the senior and junior championship matches. The seniors were in action in Monamolin on Sunday last and had a 4-22 to 3-9 victory over the Rapps.

The Junior hurlers conceded an early goal in the third minute but it did not stop them overcoming Geraldine O`Hanrahans by 6-24 to 2-8 on Sunday last.

The under 9`s also played Our Ladys Island on the same evening and had good victory on a 5-6 to 4-3 scoreline. Eoin, Andrew, Cathal, Daniel, Jack, Ben, Ryan, Luke and Adam showed well for the Shels as well as Niall, Denis, Cian and Robbie who all chipped in with goals.

There was no winner of the Lotto draw last week and the numbers drawn were 7, 17, 23 & 28. There were two match 3 winners, Juliette Lawlor-Cotter and Leona Tector with each receiving ?100. This weeks draw stands at €5600 and you are asked for your continued support.

FIELD DAY

The Shelmalier GAA club will hold a monster Field day on Monday, June 3 in Hollymount . This event has proven to be a great parish occasion and includes all the usual attractions to provide fun and enjoyment for all family members. There will be a collection by club members to all householders the week preceding the big day for all items for the various stalls including Bric-a-Brac, vegetables, home baking etc. Your very generous support would be appreciated.

CAMOGIE NEWS

St. Ibars/Shelmalier Camogie club continue training for U8 and U10 players every Monday evening from 6.30 - 7.15 p.m. Their next cluster blitz takes place on Friday, May 24 in Hollymount at 6.30 p.m. Training for U12 girls continues every Monday evening from 6.30 - 7.30 p.m.

Reserve Saturday, June 15 in your diaries as all U12 teams in the county are being invited to Wexford park for a blitz which will be attended by Aileen Lawlor, National President and Mary O'Connor, acting Ard-Stiurthoir and former Cork stalwart.

Well done to the Slaney U14 team on their victory against Oylegate/Glenbrien which they took on a 9-3 to 3-1 scoreline. They take on Fethard at home at 6.30 p.m on Wednesday, May 22 in their last league group game. Welcome to Tara Smith who will be joining the U16 squad as they train on Wednesday evenings.

Good luck to the Rackard league girls team and their trainer Amanda Bolger as they meet Rathangan in the semi-final being played in Piercestown on Wednesday, May 22 at 4.30 p.m . The girls are bidding to reach an impressive fourth successive decider. Your support would be appreciated.

All adult players are reminded that training will take place on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m and the club are still awaiting news on the concluding stages of the Intermediate league, while the seniors will have a challenge game against the County Intermediates at a date to be confirmed.

Best wishes to Bridget Curran who has been called up to the County senior squad after her recent strong club displays. Tickets are still on sale for the May and June Model county development draws. A Coffee morning will take place in the Porter House in Castlebridge on Saturday, June 8. This is a joint fundraiser for the club and the Ladies football Feile teams.

CAMOG-A-THON

St. Ibars/Shelmaliers first ever Camog-a-thon takes place on Monday, June 3 in Hollymount. Players in all grades have received their sponsorship cards and your support will be greatly appreciated. This will be a fun day for all the family and a chance for everyone who has played with the club to be involved. Iis also a fundraiser for the Hollymount astro-turf and floodlighting projects. All sponsorship cards are required back no later than Wednesday, May 29.
