BANNOW/ BALLYMITTY

THANK YOU

The organisers of the pig roast and barbeque, which took place at Stafford's of Tullicanna on Sunday June 17, would like to extend a huge thank you to all who supported this event. Thank you to Rich for the use of his premises, to Johnny Gee Whizz for the music and most importantly to you all for your very generous support. A total of €750 was raised and al proceeds went to Grantstown Day Care Centre.

GOLDEN JUBILEE

Fr. Sean Cullen will be home in his native parish in July of this year and we are arranging a little celebration for him, as this is the year of his Golden Jubilee of his ordination. On Friday July 27 mass will be celebrated in Ballymitty Church at 7.30 p.m., and there will be refreshments afterwards in Ballymitty Hall and everyone is most welcome so please come along and join Fr. Sean on this very special occasion.

CAMOGIE

Our second U10 league match of the season was played on Tuesday evening away to a strong Kilmore side. After a nervous start our girls got more into the game and went off at half time with a 4goal lead. We added 1 more before full time to leave the final score B/B 5-0 to Kilmore no score.

BOXERCISE CLASSES

PARENT & TODDLER

TRIP TO CULLENSTOWN

A 12K road race the trip to Cullenstown will take place on Friday July 27 at 7 p.m. in conjunction with the Phil Murphy weekend. Entries on line €10 or the day €15.

SHOW DATE

HORSE CLASSES

The main events in the horse classes at the Bannow & Rathangan 63rd Annual Show at Killag, Duncormick are the Irish Shows Association and B & R Show Society who present the 3 year old al Ireland Horse Championship final with a prize fund of €6,000. The prize money is sponsored by Galway Irish Crystal and Belleek China. This final attracts horses from all over Ireland with qualifiers from shows from all around the country. There will be no thoroughbred classes this year. There will be ten 'Gain' Mare Premiums of €70 each sponsored by Glanbia.

The Show Society will have a number of qualifier classes for horses and ponies. There will be one nomination to the following sires: Van Dantzig or Lansdown kindly donated by Mr. Walter Kent, Croase, Cleariestown, to either Lardshore Road (RID) or Cruise Diamond kindly donated by Redinagh Stud, to Killinick Bouncer kindly donated by Anne Lambert, Killinick and to Diamond Valley Prince kindly donated by the Roche Family, Whitechurch, Glynn. Ring 1 will host the Brood Mares and foals classes, ring 2 will host the Irish draught Mare and dray Mare Classes, ring 3 will have Led Horses classes and the riding Horses classes will be held in ring 4 and all the horse classes will commence at 10 a.m.

The pony classes will commence at 9.30 a.m. with the riding Ponies in Rings 5 & 6, the working Hunter Pony classes in Ring 7, the Pony Brood Mare and Foal classes ring 8 which will include the RDS Connemara Pony Breeders Championship Qualifier. The Led Ponies will be in Ring 9. The Show Society have this year provided many new classes which will give the exhibitors a wider choice to enter their horses and ponies in.

The Driving Classes attract much attention and are held and judged after the Galway Irish Crystal and Belleek China and the Vintage Machinery parade. Mrs Susan Santer has presented the Keith Santer Memorial Cup in memory of her late husband Keith who was a regular exhibitor at the show in the Driving Classes.

A.R.A. MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Bannow & Ballymitty Active Retirement Association will be held din Carrig Community centre this Thursday June 28 at 8 p.m. The calendar for July will be drawn up and events for the month will be discussed. Twelve members travelled to Woodstock Gardens, Inistioge on Monday June 11, visited the picturesque Inistioge where they wined and dined.

Then they went to see the well-known golf club and stud and gardens. Due to the lack of interest the trip to Kilkenny Castle had to be postponed. The association has been invited to the Regional Garden Part at Faithlegg Hotel Waterford on Wednesday July 4.

G.A.A. NOTES

The 2-Tuff Yokes concert has been cancelled for this Wednesday evening.

Best of luck to our clubmen Ben and Niall when they tog out in the county colours this Sunday in Croke Park. They will play Dublin with Kick off at 4pm.

Model County Draw: The last draw will take place this Wednesday. The very best of luck to everyone who bought tickets.

GRANTSTOWN NEWS

Memories from Home Project using clay, paint and combined material with community artist Mary Wallace to start on Mondays 1-3 p.m. from July 16 to December, please ring Grantstown on 051561016 to book your place should you wish to come along.

A big thank you to J Cullen & The Tullicana Fundraising Committee for their kind donations to Grantstown, which was raised at a Pig Roast and BBQ in Stafford's Pub on Sunday June 17, also thanks you to Johnny Gee Whiz for the music, much appreciated!!

BANNOW MEN'S SHED

Thank you for making crafts for our clients and residents to pain, we are very grateful. Tech na nOg We would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent cake sale. A special thank to all parent for their wonderful baking. We raised a total of €250 towards the defibrillator.

PLAYSCHOOL/MONTESSORI

Teach na Nog are now taking bookings for afternoon sessions for September 2012 for playschool and Montessori. We are holding a parents meeting on Wednesday June 27 at 8 p.m.

DISCO/TABLE QUIZ

Bannow parents Council are running a school disco on June 29 in the community centre from 6-8 p.m. Entry is€5 per child, all primary school going kids are welcome to attend. We will also be running a table quiz in Breen's Pub on Friday July 6 at 9 p.m. all support is greatly appreciated.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

Congratulations and best wishes to Ellen and Tom Carty Littlegraigue who celebrated 50 years of marriage last week. Family and friends gathered in Whites to mark the occasion. An extra cake appeared for their son who was celebrating his 49th birthday on the night.

U10 GIRLS FOOTBALL

Our u10 girls played a league match away to gusserane Monday 11th June and had a nice 9-6 to 0-1 win. Well done girls keep up the good work. Scores were from Rebecca Holmes 2-2, Shannon Anglim 2-1, Niamh millar 1-2, Rebecca Stafford 1-0, Rebecca Roche 1-0, Sophie Scallan 1-0, Aishling waters 0-1 and Maxine Byrne 1-0.
