BREE/GALBALLY

COMMUNITY GAMES

The Bree/ Davidstown area Athletics Finals take place this Wednesday, 25th May at 6.30pm in Bree. Registration is at 6pm. Admission is €2 for everyone. Commiserations to the Girls U12 Soccer Team who were defeated 3-1 by Castlebridge/ Crossabeg in the county final in Ferrycarrig Park recently.

Best wishes to the fourteen young people who will represent Bree Davidstown and Co Wexford in the Community Games National Finals in Athlone this weekend. Travelling are Ciara Scullion and Grainne Byrne in the Art, Sophie McCabe and Annalise Crean in the Cross Country, Kasey Doyle, Amy Long, Sophie McCabe, Moya Neary and Louise Butler in Irish Group Dancing, Antony Butler, Enda Minogue, Colm Parnell and Liam Rossiter in Handball, Caoimhe Doyle in Handwriting and Aoife Cloke Rochford in Music.

TRACTOR/ VINTAGE RUN

The annual Galbally tractor and vintage run takes place this Sunday, 29th May. Registration begins at the community centre from 11.30am and the run is expected to get under way at 1pm.

The route for the this years outing includes, Tomfarney, Sparrowsland, Clonmore Cross, Ballyhogue, Killurin, Ballinaclay, Barmoney and Galbally.

This day has been enormously successful in the past number of years due to the huge support received from within the parish and from vintage groups in the surrounding area. All support on the day will be greatly appreciated and refreshments for participants will be served in the hall afterwards.

BREE AC NEWS

Well done to all twelve Bree AC teams who competed well in the Leinster Relays on Sunday last in Greystones.

Gold medal winners were the U9 Boys team of Liam Doyle, Nicholas Howe, Killian Doyle and Tobias Redmond and the U9 Girls team of Katie Whelan, Lucy Kehoe, Kaci O'Connor and Meadhbh O'Brien with sub Nadine Power while the U16 Girls team of Dervla McCabe, Aoife Fanning, Catriona Carroll and Niamh Cloke Rochford with Chloe McMullan as sub were bronze medal winners.

Best wishes to Katie Mai McCabe, John Kehoe and Daire Cloke Rochford who compete on U11 Girls and Boy's Intercounty Relay Teams in Navan next weekend. Training continues every Monday & Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. New members are always welcome.

BREE YOUTH CLUB

The club year 2010/11 is now over. The club will resume again in September 2011. Members who are sitting exams this summer are wished the very best of luck.

It is planned to take senior members to Dunmore East Adventure Centre on Saturday 9th July for a day of multi activities which will include: Kayaking, Rock Jumping, Pedal Boats, Power Boat Ride, Climbing Wall and Archery. This trip costs €38 but Bree Youth Club will subsidise the cost bringing the charge per member to €25.

A second trip is for junior members to visit Clara Lara Funpark in Wicklow on Saturday 16th July. Clara Lara offers a variety of water based attractions in addition to go karts, mini golf, tarzan ropes and more. The cost is €18 per person but again, Bree Youth Club will subsidise the cost and can offer the trip for €12 per member.

The transport costs for both trips will be covered by the club. In order to confirm the trips the club must pay a deposit and you are asked that you text the club mobile as soon as possible – 0857751175 – with your child's name followed by "Dunmore" for the senior trip or "Clara Lara" for the junior trip.

BALLYHOGUE GAA

Well done to the Intermediate footballers who continued the winning start to the championship with a win over Clonard in Wexford Park on recently.

The end score of 1-10 to 1-4 was a fair reflection of the game in which Ballyhogue only really pulled away in the last quarter. The next outing will be in the League against St. James on Monday May 30th in Bree.

There was no winner of the recent Lotto but Bernie Byrne, Stephanie Murphy and Breda O' Sullivan all matched three to win. The next draw takes place on the 1st of June in Galbally.

Best of luck to Seán O'Neill who is a member of the Wexford Senior Football team who face Offaly this Saturday in Tullamore. Anyone who wishes to have GAA news publicised can now e-mail it directly to the club at ballyhogue@yahoo.ie.

The U14 footballers had a good win on Thursday against district rivals Duffry Rovers and now face Cloughbawn thisThursday in Bree at 7.30. The U16 hurlers were unlucky against Horeswood in their most recent game, losing out by 2 points.

U12 CUP FINAL

Congratulations to the girls from Bree Utd on winning the U12 Cup against Shelbourne. The only goal of the game was scored by Sophie McCabe. The team was Aoife Cloke-Rochford (Captain), Brid Byrne, Aideen Kane, Kim Horan, Kasey Doyle, Louise Butler, Sophie McCabe, Aoife Codd, Niamh Sinnott and Kathlyn Furlong.

The managers, Lar Rochford and Jane Power, would like to say a huge 'Thank You' to the girls and their families for their dedication and support.

PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS

Both Bree and Galbally National Schools were represented and amongst the medal winners in the Wexford Primary School Sports which were held in Bree on Wednesday last.

Galbally NS medal winners were Liam Doyle 3rd U8 80m and Eamonn Doyle 1st U9 LJ. Bree NS medal winners were Katie Mai McCabe 3rd U10 100m, John Kehoe 2nd U10 100m, Olivia Howe 3rd U11 100m, Dean Doyle 3rd U12 100m, Sophie McCabe 1st U14 400m, Kasey Doyle 3rd U14 100m, Jack Michaels 1st U14 600m. Bree NS Relay of John Kehoe, Alan Doyle, Daire Cloke Rochford and Lee Jordan 1st U10. Well done to all concerned.

SOCCER CHAMPIONS

Well done to Bree NS Girls Soccer Team on winning the Leinster FAI Primary Schools 5-a-side Soccer Championship on Thursday last. The team travelled to Navan where they beat Durrow NS 3-1, Boyne NS 2-1 and Monkstown NS 8-0. Team members are Brid Byrne, Niamh Treacy, Sophie McCabe, Emma Byrne, Shannon Carr, Kasey Doyle, Niamh Sinnott and Claire Jordan. Team manager was John Joe Fitzgerald. This team play all three Provincial winners in the National Finals in Tullamore on the 1st June. Best wishes to all involved.

WILDLIFE ART SUCCESS

Well done to Ciara Scullion and to Lauren O'Leary, both pupils in Bree NS, who were recently announced prizewinners, from 420 entries countywide, in the 2011 Wexford Field Club Wildlife Art Competition. Ciara was the winner of the 3rd to 6th Class Section while Lauren was third in the same section.

DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to all dancers who participated in the recent Irish Dance Championships in Citywest, Dublin. Wexford Academy took home a total 106 medals in the solo dances with first places going to Emma Murphy Jnr, Zara Kelly, Stacey Breen, Erin Fortune, Lucy Forte, Conor Long, Shauna Dunne, Claire Doyle, Angela Murphy, Louise Butler, and Kasey Doyle. The Class did exceptionally well in the 2, 3 & 4 hands who won 55 medals and 21 teams placed. Congratulations to Conor Long & Shauna Dunne and Kasey Doyle & Louise Butler who won 2 Hands.

The class went on to claim 17 placings in the Awards and 7 placings in the Championships, winning the Soisear Ceili Crystal. Congratulations to the Award winners Emma Murphy, Sinead Doyle and Angela Murphy and to the following who were placed in their awards Mairead Crean, Shannon Wall, Niamh O'Neill, Meadhbh O'Brien, Darren Long, Erin Fortune, Shauna Dunne, Leah Curran, Sadhbh Kirwan, Kate Byrne, Cait Doyle, Johanna Wickham, Claire Doyle, Marie Doyle & Aine Doyle.

Louise Butler was deemed Irish Open U11 Champion while the following were placed in their championships Kasey Doyle, Alysha Murphy, Dawn O'Rourke, Gillian Byrne, Ciara Breen & Sinead Doyle. 3 Ceili teams were also placed 2nd, 4th and 7th.
