HISTORY OF THE PARISH
The Crossabeg Book committee group are appealing to people of the parish and outside who have any items of interest to contact any of their members, Alice Devine, Nicky Cowman, John Foley, Pat Reck or Fr. Finn. Full length stories of happenings in the parish are most welcome.
Can you provide the information? The book committee have the writers. They are also looking for photographs - old and new. It is important that all of this is included and recorded in the second book, as it gives the parish an identity.
Crossabeg/Ballymurn's under 10 footballers are away to Fethard on Friday evening next, July 20 while the under 12 hurlers are away to Our Ladys Island on Tuesday of this week.
The under 14 footballers defeated the Sarsfields and the hurlers are away to Taghmon this Thursday evening.
The minor hurlers defeated Buffers Alley and the footballers are away to Gusserane this evening, Wednesday, June 18.
Congratulations to the Crossabeg/Ballymurn ladies football team who won the Leinster Inter Club Junior League final on Wednesday, June 27 when they they played Moynalvey, Co.Meath. It was a great display of football and teamwork from the girls. Well done to Aleisha Cullen who received the 'Player of the Match'.Thanks also to John Doyle of Ferrycarrig Treecare who sponsored polo shirts for the team for the occasion.
Well done to St. Killian's AC member Mikey Cullen who took the silver medal in the under 16 Long Jump at the All-Ireland Juvenile championships in Tullamore last weekend. Mikey jumped a PB of 5.66 and will be in action again in the All-Ireland championships on July 28 where he will concentrate on the Triple Jump.
Jane Shovlin competed very well in the under 16 Long Jump. At one stage it looked like she might break the record for the long jump, but with the high standard of competitors had to finally settle for the fourth placing. Well done to both athletes who are in great shape at the moment.
The inaugural summer sports camp was a resounding success at Crossabeg soccer grounds. The club would like to thank all who participated including the wonderful young soccer players who were turned out in their specially tailored kit for the occasion. Thanks also to the parents and volunteers without whom the running of the camp would not be possible.
The annual clean up of the club grounds took place recently and thanks to all who helped out. Pre season training started back on Sunday of last week. All senior and youth players are asked to attend regularly.
It's that time of year again with "The Beg Keg" 7 aside trophy up for grabs. The tournament takes place at Crossabeg AFC starting Monday, July 23 through to Saturday July 28 with the winning prizes sponsored by Mooneys on the quay, Wexford. A club social will take place in Mooneys from 9 p.m where the formal presentation of the cup will take place. All are welcome and refreshments are also served.
The Wexford Soccer League are in the process of setting up an over 35`s league for next season. In relation to this matter, a club meeting will take place following 12 p.m. training on Sunday next, July 22 in the clubhouse. All interested in being involved, either as a player or a helper is invited to attend. Due to time constraints, a decision will be made by the committee immediately following the meeting as to whether or not a team will be entered in the league.
