GLYNN/BARNTOWN

BARNTOWN PLAYGROUP

Calling all past and present children and parents of Barntown Community Playgroup. You are invited to a tea party on Friday 29th June from 7 pm to 8.30 pm in Barntown Community Centre to mark the closing of Playgroup after 30 years. Please come and help the Playgroup staff to celebrate the end of an era.

TRACTOR RUN

The Annual Tractor & Vintage Run will take place on Sunday 08th July at 1 pm in Glynn Village. All proceeds are in aid of Killurin Rowing Club. Further enquiries to Jimmy Furlong at 087 684 0617.

GAA GOLF CLASSIC

Our annual golf classic takes place in Rosslare on 13th July. Anyone who has taken part in recent years knows its a great day out, excellent course, top class prizes and food all for €200 per team. Contact Suzanne Goff or Patrick Nolan.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Well done to our U14 ladies football team who recently travelled to Gorey and came away with a 5-2 to 1-5 win. The U.12s came up against a very strong Sarsfields team but the girls played well under pressure and were unlucky not to score more. Under 12 & 14 training for ladies football is on Monday evenings at 7pm with U10s on Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Hurling Wall. All girls are welcome to come along and try out football.

CAMOGIE

The U12 Green team had a great win last week against Oulart the Ballagh on home ground. The girls showed great skill and determination. Sophia Conolly, Ellen Murphy and Emma Sweeney were the scorers. Unfortunately the U.12 Blue team were defeated by Taghmon/Camross on a 4-3 to 1 goal scoreline with Keevy Walsh scoring the goal for Glynn Barntown.

GAA NOTES

The intermediate footballers took on St. James in the third round of the championship and it proved to be a cracker. Robbie Dempsey was in great form and he helped us to secure a draw in a thrilling game that went down to the last kick with our opponents grabbing the equaliser right at the death.

Hurling: Good luck to John, Michael, Mark, Gary & Pa as they help Wexford take on the Cats in the Leinster U21 hurling semi final this week.

Lotto: This weeks lotto jackpot is €3,250. Don't forget to get your ticket to be in with a chance to win or share this amount.

Memberships: Some development memberships expired recently and the executive committee will be in touch shortly. There are several membership options and can be viewed on the club website www.glynnbarntown.com.

Condolences: The club wishes to extend its sympathies to the Dawson and O'Regan families on their recent bereavements.

DISCO

A disco for first year and up will be held in Glynn Barntown G.A.A. Complex tomorrow (Thursday) 21st June from 8.30pm - 11.00pm. Admission is €5 and you pay on the door. All welcome.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR

This Sunday, the children's choir will complete its term for the year and Ian and Louise embark on a well deserved rest. Much gratitude goes to them for their weekly hard work and dedication.

There will be a barbecue for the choir after 11am mass on Sunday. An appreciation envelope will be available in the church for any person who wishes to thank Ian & Louise for their ministry from which we all benefit so greatly.

BARNTOWN PATRON

The Annual Patron will take place in Barntown Cemetery this year on Sunday 05th August at 2 pm. You are asked to draw this notice to the attention of relatives and friends.

BARNTOWN SCHOOL NEWS

Spelling Competition: We are very proud to have Con Mcintyre representing Barntown National School in the Leinster Final of the Eason's Spelling Bee competition. The competition takes place tomorrow (thursday) on the Ryan Turbridy Show on 2 FM and will be broadcast live.

If he is successful, Con will compete in the RTE studios for the All Ireland Final the following day. We wish him every success and remember to listen out for him tomorrow morning on the Turbridy Show on 2FM.

Swimming: Congratulations to Stuart Anthony Vaughan who recently secured a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke in the Leinster School Swim. Stuart had an excellent race and we are very proud to have him represent our school.

Rounders: The boys have made it through to the 1/4 finals inter-school competition. Due to the "not so nice" weather, we still await a date for the match but wish the lads the best of luck.

School Sports Day: This will take place on Thursday 21st June (weather permitting). Parents welcome.

New crew: We very much look forward to meeting September's junior infants and their parents for a "Welcome to School Session" today, Wednesday 20th.

School Choir: Congratulations to Ms. Stamp and the School Choir on their beautiful concert performance last night in Barntown church. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.

Year End Mass: The end of year mass and graduation ceremony takes place on Wednesday 27th June. This year it will be followed by Carnival Day (weather permitting). Further details next week.

GYMNASTICS CAMP

Gymstars Gymnastic Club, Barntown will be running its Summer Camp starting on Monday 16th July - Friday 20th July from 10am - 1.30pm. The Camp will consist of Trampet Work, Floor Work, Vault, Beam, Air Track and much more. The Camp will be specially designed to suit all the different abilities of those taking part. GYMSTARS DISPLAY

Well done to all the Gymnasts from Gymstars on their wonderful Display which took place in the Astro Active Centre on June 9th. All Classes took part and it was a great success again.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

Many thanks to all who helped and contributed to this years Community Games church gate collection, thanks to the generosity of people from both Glynn and Barntown, we collected €595.

ATHLETICS

Good luck to all the youngsters from the area who will be taking part in the County athletics finals in Craanford on Saturday, contact Kieran McCormack, Eilish Kehoe or Mary Jackman to collect your sticker on the day. You must have a sticker on your front and back in order to take part. All athletes from Glynn and Barntown are asked to wear white t-shirts and white shorts if they can.

Bring plenty of food and drink and weather appropriate clothes. It will be held whatever the weather!
